Finished the game today and while I could agree with some points that it wasnt the BEST game of the year, it was most certainly the most satisfying... the general flow of missions, the build up and the payoff and quite frankly the sheer multitude of compelling things to do at any given time made it top dog in 2012 just in overall design... It actually felt as satisfying as the first time I played through the masterpiece that is Assassins Creed 2.  Always something fun to do...

Which leads to the number one reason why it was more satisfying than any other game last year... Combat.

The fluidity at which you can move through the environment, deal with groups of baddies, and traverse the island just makes you grin with every takedown kill and hanglider flight.

Now you can say what you want about your own GOTY, but FarCry3 had the "can't put it down" experience.

After playing the sh!t outta it, it's my GOTY of last year. Beating Mass Effect and Halo 4. What a game. Open world! Freedom! Stealth! Fire! Bow and arrow with Rambo arrows! Wild animals! Factions! Land mines! Co Op! Yes to all that!

The story is pretty unsatisfying, but clearing a outpost undetected - very satisfying.

I'd say Chivalry Medieval Warfare is the most satisfying game of 2012 though, finally decapitating that archer who has been harassing you all game is a pretty great feeling.

Way too repetative and bland. The world was gave no reason for me to actually explore it. And don't tell me radio towers and enemy camps. I'm talking the want to actually explore every nook and cranny, and Far cry gave me no reason to do so. Money didn't really matter. After you hunted one thing you hunted them all. It's really fun for about three hours and that's about it.

The animation however was done really well for a fps.

I found Dishonored and Max Payne 3 much more satisfying, popping out from cover, diving through the air and capping the last 3 guys in a room never gets old. Neither does sneaking into a fortress through an entrance you didn't see before, causing chaos and then crawling back into the shadows without anyone even noticing you.

definatley one of the best games of 2012,easily second best fps(after halo 4).

it could have been so much better if ubi left out the multiplayer and used the extra time to add more guns, enemy types and mini-games to the singleplayer.

even some kind of coop horde mode would've been  welcome over the limp mp,they could've called it counter attack and set it at your choice of outpost maybe.

"satisfying" is such a broad term that can be interpreted in such a myriad of different ways, you can't just point at a game and say it was "definitely the most satisfying".

Personally I felt that Hitman Absolution was the best murder simulator of 2012. Far Cry 3 was some fun shenanigans but I grew tired of it fairly quickly. I still have yet to finish it.

Disagree, after the first hour it boiled down the IDENTICALLY lame collect, fetch and no variety that plagued assassins creed. oh wait, it was just assassins creed map layout/style but with guns. Gunplay was ok.... but any lack of real challenge and variety made it a joke, even animal hunting. Everything about it failed to be creative just to mainstream the concept.

I pondered that myself... I felt the same, only it made me wonder if I felt that way because by the time I transitioned to that part of the island I knew the mechanics/process so well or whether it was because it just wasnt as compelling.

I was so looking forward to Far Cry 3 and I did enjoy the game, but I didnt like the way the world felt so empty after you took down the enemy outposts. It left no challenge to getting around the game world. And collecting all the relics was just busy work for the sake of it,although it did lead you to some nice views now and again.

I loved AC2 but that ending was far from satisfying. Can't wait to play Far Cry 3 but I've got a giant back log of games to get through.hummer700

Well, if we're going on story, FC3 ranged from just good enough to hold my attention to downright ridiculous.  story be damned though the game design is exquisit.

"satisfying" is such a broad term that can be interpreted in such a myriad of different ways, you can't just point at a game and say it was "definitely the most satisfying".BrunoBRS
technically true, but I'm making a bold statement that the game scratched many itches far more often than games often do. It was an easy game to be lost in and invest in.

There were some really annoying little things in it that should have been fixed. The fall damage and health system is ridiculous and the game badly needed a conventional save system. I thought the story and the campaign were a little underwhelming. Some of the interior levels are ultra linear and scripted. They wasted the baddies. The freedom stuff was nice, like the hunting, which is actually useful. Can Ubisoft hire some decent voice actors next time? They got some top notch gear you're gonna want!

I actually did much of my play-through sequentially... as in, I was maybe only 1 or two towers/ outposts ahead of the main story at any one time... I also put blue missions (hunter/rakyack warrior) as priority once they were unlocked, basically rendering the game rich with activities from "cover to cover". I will most likely not go back and do all the idols/letters/treasures, but I will revisit it if it gets a major DLC. The one they just released is not compelling enough at full price.

It was a fun game, but once you clear all the outposts/towers (which is already repetitive), and complete the main story, the game is very empty. I give it a 7.5/10 overall. Graphics are beautiful on PC (not sure about on the dinosaur console hardware lol)

I thought they were quite good on console... I really like the facial animations in that game. could only agree with your points though if I had just done all the outposts and towers before doing the missions... I happened to intermingle everything together which added to the sense of variaty

I had heard of the Far Cry series before but had never played it prior to FC3. With no expectations I was pleasantly surprised with how fun and graphically pleasing the game was. The open-world FPS gameplay was quite refreshing compared to the linear rail-shooters I'm used to playing.
