I think if you outlook all the whining with imba and character counters, street fighter is pretty much a household name and more or less synonymous with the fighting game genre.
Mk series for myself. I remember searching my brothers room for quarters. Finding one and getting psyched that would last me a playthrough in mk1 down the block at the billiards. Then once mk2 was announce it was a frantic search to see which arcade got it first. First versions of mk2 were a bit easier to beat and also glitchy were you could do john cages babality and friendship at the same time for as long and you keep going ....lol Finding the secrets of that game day by day on the internet was a treat. And seeing a new fatality was sooo epic.
Bushido Blade! i'm sad that no-one has taken that concept any further...
i picked Tekken from those, but it was hard to choose just one. i like them all for different reasons.
[QUOTE="Demonjoe93"]Wouldn't Smash Bros be TECHNICALLY a crossover?Crap, I forgot about the Super Smash Brothers series, oh well, that's kinda hard to compare to these other five series anyway due to how radically different it is, even though it's in the same genre as these.

Oh yeah that's right, it is because there are a few third party characters in the game and a lot of different franchisesare in ittoo.
