My vote for hardware is a tough one. I think the HTC Vive is the coolest piece of hardware, but lacks the software. The PSVR is better than the Vive in a few ways, including software, but the poor tracking sort of ruins the magic. The PS4 Pro with HDR support on a 4K TV is stunning. The Xbox One S being an affordable UHD Bluray player that also plays games is pretty cool. And the Switch is pretty darn cool as well. I'm gonna go with Vive/PSVR number 1 because of the immersion it brings to gaming. PS4 Pro number two because it's currently the most capable console on the market and it enhances PSVR. Number 3 is the Switch because I can play Zelda in my car while waiting to walk in to work. I don't really touch the Vita and 3DS much these days.
@n64dd: I hear the remastered version is a lot better, I'll probably get it when it's 20 or less. and I also hear the mods are pretty rad. I hope consoles keep getting some awesome mods like this.
Yeah Vive is a great piece of tech, but I recently got my hands on a Switch to give it a test run from a friend, and I have to admit it is a pretty cool piece of kit. Doesn't at all feel cheap like the Wii U, it feels hi-quality and the screen is beautiful.
In due time.
Seems silly to split the PS4 and Xbox 1 like that.
But I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Switch. Especially coming off such garbage as the 3DS and Wii U.
PC
I really like my mouse I bought, Roccat Kone XTD. Fits my big hand wonderfully, added all the weights in it as well so it doesn't feel like a light piece of crap. Feels substantial. I know that's probably not what you meant by hardware, but whatever.
3DS XL and PS4 Pro (don't own a Switch yet).
Switch is a great system. The experience and how you play is what makes it so much fun and refreshing. You should try one out in a store if you can.
Yes.. a great system indeed. A wait and see approach is advised.
I mean... it's always PC for me. But I've really enjoyed my PS4, and although I don't have a Switch yet I believe I will really enjoy it when I get one. So setting aside my PC hobby I think there's room for interesting competition for my heart. Woo me, corporations, with your robotic feminine wiles
Lol people are putting way too much hope in the Scorpio, it's not gonna be that Beast. Expecting native 4k and enhanced visuals is beyond its specs I'm afraid.

Microsoft-Developed Scorpio Games Will Run at 4K Natively

In an interview with USA Today (via NeoGAF and GameSpot), Loftis said the following: “Any games we're making that we're launching in the Scorpio time frame, we're making sure they can natively render at 4K."
Xbox One S, bar none.
It's one hell of a revision. Favorite game for the system?
I would have to say Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Isn't it better on the Pro?
Could be. I haven't played it on the Pro. No reason to, as I already bought the game on the Xbox One S, did 100% game completion, and got the DLC on my Xbox One S, but I haven't started the DLC yet.

Fair enough.
My Samsung ATIV Book 8 laptop with Radeon HD 8870M/R9-M270 (10 CU at 850Mhz, 78 GB/s, 2 GB). It aged better than Nvidia Kelper counterpart..
I plan replace it with Raven Ridge APU with 11 NCU Vega and hopefully, a transformer tablet/ultra book form factor.
Shopping list
1. 4K TV replacing HDTV
2. Scorpio replacing HD Blu-ray player
3. RX-Vega and 1080 Ti non-reference edition replacing R9-390X and 980 Ti respectively
4. Intel CoffeeLake replacing Core i7-4770K Haswell.
lol nice. What do you watch the most?

Obviously, The Weather Channel and sports for Live TV. DirecTV also has a strong Netflix-like On Demand section. I like to watch The Universe, How the Universe Works, Pawn Stars, and when available, Survivorman.

I've read stories of the dock scratching the screen, and joycons not syncing properly, so I thought I'd wait a bit in hopes of getting one without problems.
Apparently the joycon issue was small (not wide spread) and solved now for new consoles. Screen scratching happened due to a batch of bad docks that warped during manufacturing, also not wide spread. You're likely in the green now.
my gaming laptop (called buttons). yes it was expensive. yes its poor value for money. but if you are going to be o the move a lot its amazing that such a comapct device can still give great gaming performance.
backed by the broadest game catalogue and the ability to use whatever controller setup in the industry it still makes for one hell of a gaming machine. seriosuly though...get a desktop unless you really need the portability.
other mentions:
steam controller: its the best controller on the market. it has a learning curve but its an incredibly powerful input device. renders the traditional controller pretty much irrelevant and i really hope MS, sony and nintendo are taking notes. my only complaint really is that its so tied into steam. thankfully there is a stand alone driver in the works (unofficial) so people who dont want to use steam can still use the controller. but it would be great if valve separated the controller software from steam itself.

I hated my steam controller. It felt cheap and awkward. Gave it away honestly.
