Baldur's Gate series. But I've come to enjoy what they've been doing this gen.
It'll say alot about the current audience if Mass Effect beats KotOR.meetroid8
Imo Mass Effect had much better level design than Kotor--not perfect by any means though. The plot and game progression was much better executed as well, when in comparison to Kotor's hunt starmap progression until the plot twist. The universe of Mass Effect was much more immersive to me. The music, the scenery and setting felt much more original--though that's not difficult since Kotor is set on an already established and imo tired universe. The overall plot though, might not have been as good or interesting as Kotor's, I'll give it that, since Mass Effect feels like a Space-Opera through and through.
Character development was here and there, since I did like some of the characters in kotor just as much if not more than ME. The gameplay in Kotor wasn't bad by all means, but games like Dragon Age have done its style a hell of a lot better. The choice system was just as black and white in both of them, but in Kotor, it felt a bit more forced to me. If I was a huge fan of Star Wars, or if that plot twist had impressed me as much as it did some fans of the game, my opinion might have been different. But as it stands, I'll take Mass Effect over it.
