[QUOTE="tythewarrior"]You can't just throw too classics into battle and ask which is better. You need to go throw all the things that make them classics first. Oh and btw VII>VISmokieXBut I though you were gonna go through all the thingy ma jingys that make them a classic.
Final Fantasy VI had epic scale, and the characters were some of the finest used in any video game.
Just read my FFVII review if you want to know why it's such a c-l-a-s-s-i-c
I vote for FFVI.Panzer_Zwei

Better executed story, more characters, more content, better music, insane amount of secrets, better combat system...what more do you need?
Im probably going to get marauded but I believe that FF9 is better than FF7. Never played FF6.
Zero_Fate_
You're not alone. I felt that FF9 was the best of the Playstation FF games as well.

I will never forget the scene when Cyan's family is going away in the ghost train.I also loved the feeling that the game gave you that it was divided in 2 parts, when the "world changes".

That part was definitely heart felt. I just love how every character in VI had equal time on the screen, making it so that there were no "main" characters. VI did a fantastic job with character development, probably the best out of any game in the series.
Post Kefka FFVI was hella fun. I spent untold hours trying to get the best item out of the arena, which I think was Ragnarok (Correct if I'm wrong, it's been a long while). All I know is that I went with the sword, gave Locke it to dual wield it and it was good game for the rest of the game.
7 for me
6 is too old school for me personally. I'm not a graphics ho, and well 7 looks poor these days, but 6 is just too old looking for me to get into. Shame really :(

I think this is why so many people vote for VII; a huge amount of gamers got their start with the PS1, and FFVII was the RPG that introduced the genre to the masses. It seems to me that a lot of the people who vote for VI played it before the Playstation existed.

You bet Ragnarok in the collosseum, and the best sword you get is the Illumina Sword (put that together with the Paladin Shield, and the character who wields them is virtually invincible).
FFVII beats FFVI, in every aspect there is.Storm_Winds
The only aspect FFVII beats FFVI in is in graphics. Even the music is better in FFVI.

Thanks for the refreshment. I really need to get the GBA version of FFVI so I can refresh my memory completely. I have the SNES version but it's broken. :(

Well thats your opinion. FFVI isnt even in my top3 listed Final Fantasys.

Yes you're probably right. I was introduced through VII, so for me that was the standard and going back from there is tough.

Yeah, I've been there. I played Resident Evil 2, then Code Veronica, 3, and finally 4. After that, I started on RE:0, and I just couldn't do it, because it was an obvious downgrade from the last I played. I grew up on the 2D SNES RPGs (FF, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, etc.), so those are like the Bible to me.
While Tactics is obviously the best in the series by a long shot, 6 is the best of the main series games. The story was amazing, the characters made me acctually feel emotion. I remember just being furious with Kefka on the floating island at the Goddess statues. Kefka was also far and away an amazing villian, crazed and maniacal, became stronger then the gods, he was vicious unlike any final fantasy villian before or after him. The characters were just amazing, and lived in such a real world.
FF7, by comparison, had me uncaring through most of the game. The supposed villian wasn't even the main villian, as you chased around another person with Jenova cells the whole game, who Jenova caused to look like Sephiroth. The characters weren't as compelling, and at no point did I really care what happened or feel any emotion about anyone. Even when Sephiroth killed Aeris, I was just sort of, "ohh, that sucks. Oh well."

Actually the supposed villian of FF7 was Sephiroth and he was the main villian
Come to think of it, only Kefka and Sephiroth are the main villians in Final Fantasies that really was the main villian to the end. If there were others, I can't remember them at the moment.
As for Tactics, I always struggle to decide which is better FF between Tactics and 7, but Tactics have far worse translation so I usually pick 7.
They're both great, I love them both for different reasons.
FFVII - for ushering in JRPGs to the spot light like none before ithad before. People who always shun FF (especially FFVII) but praise the niche RPG titles we see on these shores, should actually give a nod to FFVII for making said niche titles more viable on these shores.
FFVI - a swan song of sorts for good old solid 2D goodness for the series. The nostalgia with this title is deep and it's a game I won't forget.
If I had to choose one over the other, I would probably lean for FFVI simply b/c it's the last of it's time. FFVII is/was merely the start of what we're going/are to be experiencing for a while.
Are people more fond of FFVI because of nostalgia factor?
Or are they talking out of their @$$ because everyone played FFVII and they want to be different?
FFVI wasn't even best Square SNES RPG, that belongs to Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana.

A lot of them are talking out of their ass. They just don't want to say VII, because when somebody says that VII is their favorite others think its just because that person never played FF 1-6 and like to give them crap about it. However, most gamers that say VII say its because it was either their first FF game or their first RPG period and got into it right when the original PS was starting to take off.
