Judge for yourself

1:08-1:27 is particularly good.

Basically I just really like that video.

Runningflame570

Cosplayers in general scare the hell out of me.

I must admit, though: The guy can play a Kefka, that's for sure. I love the shaming Sephiroth received.

Secret of Mana's an action-RPG, so it doesn't really count. Plus I don't remember Kefka being in a candy-coated pallete. Breath of Fire's graphics were sort of in between Final Fantasy IV and VI. IV didn't do anything special, because it was sorta expected that the graphics look like that.

Video_Game_King

Secret of Mana might be action RPG, but I don't see how that is related to the graphic aspect of games.

Chrono Trigger you mentioned look very similar to Secret of Mana, so if anything Chrono Trigger was inspired by Secret of Mana, not Final Fantasy VI.

Not to mention 3 characters in a squad is same as Secret of Mana.

Once again, seriously Final Fantasy VI didn't much anything that was original. Just use same formula, use the technology they developed using their other titles, and just went with it.

Only thing Final Fantasy did that was revolutionary was marketing. They did excellent job selling the game using Mog.

I'll give you Chrono Trigger, but you can't have Secret of Mana. Why? Seiken Densetsu III.

Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu II

It came before Seiken Densetsu III, so what's your point?

The characters were pretty cool and memorable as well. Black dude with a hand cannon, literally. White dude with a sword bigger than him. Talking orange cat. Gun-toting vampire. Wise ass airship captain.

Everything in the game was just huge. Ruby and Omega Weapon, the maps, the summons.

NavigatorsGhost

Wow...such great descriptions for so called memorable characters....

Final Fantasy had summons, maps, and weapons long before FFVII as well.

I'm sorry I didn't write a paragraph describing each character. My bad. The characters are memorable. Not saying the ones from previous versions aren't. Look at X and XII, the characters are garbage. Wakka? Tidus? WTF is that?

I'm sure you've played FF VII. Remember the first time you played it? You can't tell me the first time you summoned Knights of the Round you weren't amazed or at least impressed.

I'm not impressed by graphics. Never have been never will be. Graphics do not matter to me. CGI and FMV have never fazed me. I play the games I don't care for anything else. Yes I'm stubborn like that.

Well it still don't matter.

The game still had so many things going right like great story, actually good twist in plot that really affects how you viewed entire game up to that point instead of the one that makes you go "where did that come from?" and characters with an edge.

Also main character Cloud was so cocky, he actually gave out tutorials instead of learning from others like a noob. If that's not a strong personality, I don't know what is.

Also, 5 minutes with Cid, you can tell he is bitter old man with chip on his shoulder, who's broken down because he couldn't achieve his dream. Characters was one of the best part of Final Fantasy VII.

Also with the theme of death, Final Fantasy VII was much more darker and deeper than previous Final Fantasies. It also has some Oedipus complex issue, but it is completely understandable if you knew what was going through Sakaguchi. That game was made right after he lost his mother. It is probably also big reason why VII is not his favorite.

Not to mention, FFVII had balanced magic system that wasn't exploitable (if you didn't try 7777 trick) and original called material system. Job system is good, but most of the idea was recieved from Dragon Quest series, and Esper system of Final Fantasy VI was the most exploitable system ever made in Final Fantasy game.

No he didn't.

He talked about it to tell stories of Sephiroth and used to tell about his past of being SOILDER (i don't know why that was in caps in the game), and talked about how great he was because he was ex-SOILDER.

I think Advent Children Cloud image is too strong for you to remember how he was before he was found in wheel chair.

Also Cloud was a beast. He nearly raped Aeris lol.

Exactly that's his main focus for like half the game and he always shakes his head about it too like he's doing the Mr. Roboto dance.

How is that whiny?

Whiny is Tidus where you can tell he has some serious Oedipus complex and talks about how he wants to scream because he hates his dad.

I personally think that Cloud is the most overrated and most overused stock (AKA generic) character ever.

Big sword? Check. Cocky yet heart of gold? Check. Unique features (Hair)? Check. Wears nothing but black? Check.

It's like the developers at Square was playing by the anime playbook to a T just to make sure they didn't alienate anyone when it came to their cover character. Same can be said about the rest of the characters.

That's probably the biggest thing that kinda killed FFVII for me in terms of character and story: Every moment felt like a ripoff from some other previous piece of work or were just so stereotypical it was insulting (Barrett *waves*)

Cloud wore blue, not black.

As for Cloud being cliche character, I mean at that point all characters would end up feeling like cliche because there are simply too many stories out there. Just about all variation of characters has been done.

The interesting thing about Cloud was that 90% of the game. We never got to meet Cloud. The one who we saw was actually Zack, and that's what made it interesting and unique.

As for poster above, Seifer was a wimp who wanted to be a knight in shining armor who couldn't be one. Final Fantasy VIII was story based on immaturity before maturity thus the theme love really is fitting, and that was Seifer's way of protecting himself, by masking himself as trash talking, cocky @$$ (not bastard, he was an @$$)

Talk about psychologically unstable. At least Cloud had legit excuse.

Ingame, yes. However, the original concept art had him in a blackish getup. In Advent Children, he's completely black.

Either way, he's still generic as hell.

The interesting thing about your interesting thing is that it had Cloud acting like a clueless jack*** for the sizable majority of the game.

Seifer unlike Cloud really WAS a bad***, he destroyed freaking Odin. For all the angst present in FFVIII the characters were better, it kept you guessing in a way that FFVII never did through its use of dream scenarios which kept things from becoming too much of a slogfest and aside from some pacing issues with the draw system I consider it the best in the franchise combat-wise that I've played.

Cloud didn't have an excuse for being a moron.

Was or was not the character design in Squall superior? All I'm asking, he had some stereotypes in him yes but Cloud is a tangle of stereotypes as is most every other character in FFVII.

Also he considerably predates Sasuke, the closest I can think of that I know for a fact predates him in Ranma and hes hardly a carbon-copy of that. Many earlier animes had those types (Gundam in particular I recall) but not with the level of character development present in Squall which was considerably better than the scattershot character development of FFVII (aside from Barrett, he actually had good development).

Also of note anti-heroes in animes tend to either be berserkers of some sort or a kind of supplement to the main character.

Heavenly Sword's Nariko

Virtua Fighter 5's Sarah

Most Dead or Alive girls

Racheal from Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I think haven't gone that far yet in the game)

Chun Li from Street Fighter

and I'm sure Lara Croft wears thongs too otherwise she couldn't wear that kind of tight shorts without and panty-lines.

You're missing the point. Thongs aren't something that draws eyes, a full getup like the color of a costume is. Bringing up something as irrelevant as thongs to support your version of generic argument is a strawman argument. If you were to say "Well, so and so is wearing a school girl uniform when she fights! That's so generic!" I'd agree with ya since it's something that stands out. Ditto if you pointed out a female character thats dressed up as a prostitute in general.

Clueless jack@$$?

Cloud was one of the most informed characters in Final Fantasy VII, far from being clueless.

Also he does have excuse of being in that state because he's been through tragedy and experiments done on him, that really screwed him up.

Also he is the one that did kill Sephiroth the first time and second time and third time and fourth time (in Advent Children).

As for Seifer, his apperance was short in Final Fantasy VIII, and he barely showed much of anything. Also he was designed to be Squall's mirror image. Similar but opposite, that big scar on his forehead is proof. So their outer personality is very different, but their inner personality ends up being similar, or at least you can safely assume that, which is also why can see many thoughts of Squall to enforce that theme. Thus, the conclusion of Seifer's personality is nothing more than a mask of his true self is not very incorrect.

As for Squall, I find him inferior character compared to Cloud because I felt like he was fairly shallow and predictable. Very typical teenager boy. As for anime character before Final Fantasy VIII that is similar to Squall, Hyunckel from Dragon Quest: Adventures of Dai comes out very similar, except with more tragic past. Or just see him as male version of Ayanami Rei from Eva, although you don't really know what she is thinking about.

I will do it respectively counting down:

1- FF7: It is the only RPG that revolutionized RPGs, the first 3D, FMV Rpg and it has one of the most compelling stories and it was complicated also with some twist, above all of that it has the most shocking moment in history of videogames, the gameplay system was great, the materia and everything, the characters was cool.

Aeris death.

2- FF8: When you say Squall and Rinoa, you are saying Romeo and Juliet, it has one of the most beautiful love stories, and they has some of the greatest influantical Characters, No.1 is Squall, he is very cool and quiet, has gunblade and his last name is Leonheart, everybody wants to be just like him, in the other hand NO.2 is Seifer, he is the toughest guy in the school, ex-boyfriend of Rinoa and Rival of Squall and also carries a gunblade( they did put a scar to each other), who would you go with? and it is complicated love triangle. The gameplay system also rocks in this game, they both revolutionized RPGs.

FF 8

It is also hard to choose between these two.

Cloud and Squall

3- FF 10: it did what FF 7 and FF 8, it has complex story too, mixed from FF7 and FF8, Auron was cool too the gameplay and the rock music was great and underwater blitzball I think that was what called( I did mention this game and Im going to play it again).

Auron

4- FF tactics: I can't say it better than gamespot, when Shakespeare make a game.

5- FF 6: It has an interesting story with great gameplay system.

VIII could have been my favorite but I'm not a fan of the Junction system...

TriangleHard

Secret of Mana came out in 1993 (all regions). FF6 in 94, Seiken Densetsu III in 95. Graphical influence.

Screw VII and VI they're horrible!

Only n00bs play those games.

Final Fantasy II for the NES is where it's at.

Dencore

We get it you don't like FF, you don't need to keep repeating yourself.

I was being sarcastic...

Thank god, because that game sucked.

Probably FF7 is better than FF6. I haven't played all of FF7, but it's good.

Cloud wore blue, not black.

TriangleHard

Ingame, yes. However, the original concept art had him in a blackish getup. In Advent Children, he's completely black.

Either way, he's still generic as hell.

Not as generic as Terra

lost her memories? unique compared to others because she can use magic? wears thongs? half magical being and half human?

can she be anymore of cliche character?

So a half breed main character is generic? Name another half breed main character in the FF world. How in the hell is she cliche at all? She was straight used and put under mind control that is how she lost her memory. She didn't just get banged on the head. She was a former elite Magitek Warrior who downed 100 soldiers in an instant.

FFVII was a far better game, there really isn't any competiton IMO. It was a beautiful, moving game with a brilliant plot, great battles, and pretty much all round perfection. Final Fantasy VI just can't compete, especially graphics wise.

I liked FFVI better. Terra and Locke were both better "main" characters than Cloud was. Besides Terra's lack of memory at the beginning of the game, they explained her backstory and she developed quite well compared to Cloud. Plus, Kefka is a whole of a lot more original than Sephiroth, the "ultimate" warrior bent on destroying the world.

I also found Locke's carefree nature to be more refreshing than Cloud's emotional behavior. Strange because I liked Squall, but then again Squall and Cloud really aren't all that similar...

Seriously, there is only one thing that needs to be said.

Kefka >>>>>>>>>>>> Sephiroth. I will never forget when he poisoned an entire town just because he could.

But I don't know why you are arguing this, because we all know that Chrono Trigger was better then both these.

Clueless jack@$$?

Cloud was one of the most informed characters in Final Fantasy VII, far from being clueless.

Also he does have excuse of being in that state because he's been through tragedy and experiments done on him, that really screwed him up.

TriangleHard

Gotta love FFVII fanboys. First they flame you. Then they say a character who didn't even know his own identity was the most well informed character and far from being clueless. Yeah Cloud isn't clueless yet Sephiroth had to explain all that stuff to him. Hell he even made up his own past but yet he is still informed right?

Yet in the end you say he has an exuse for being this way? Yet in Terra's case you fault her for losing her memory and calling that cliche and generic. How one sided you are....

If there was one feature of VII that stops it from being better than VI it's the music. Everything else could be debatable, but VII battle music is IMO the worst in the series.
