Poll FF7 vs FF8 vs FF9 - which is better? (60 votes)

FF7 43%
FF8 20%
FF9 37%

I know im going to get flack for this, but FF8 is my favorite. To me it was such a nice and drastic change from FF7 stylistically. I'm not gonna lie though, I played it back in 2000 so i'm going off of childhood memories lol. What do you think, SW? Who wins here out of these three?

9,8,7 in that order, and everything after 10 is trash... except the 2nd MMO (never played the first one)... it's not bad.

Final Fantasy IX easily. It's a shame it was drowned in the hype of the PS2. I loved how they went back to their roots. It was a fun, engrossing and cute game. I think it's one of the highest rated in the franchise but it's sales could have probably done better. I don't hear many people talk about it. It's always about FF VI, VII or X.

FF7 gets my vote as it was the first I played. I had been gaming long before it but never got into an RPG before that game.

I really liked elements of IX. Loved the art design, loved the characters, loved the music. But the gameplay was tedious and there were a couple weird time jumps in the story that didn't go over well for me. Still haven't played enough of VIII to say, and VII is good but it's been ages since I've played that.

FF9, seeing as it is the best in the series (and if you actually want to discuss in detail why, let's).
Then FF7, followed by FF8. I'd actually put FF8 in the middle to lower end of the franchise, its redeeming attributes notwithstanding.

Time jumps? You mean with respect to Active Time Events, I presume?

Nah. In the story there are two points where there's a passing of time, several months I believe. I mean it works in the story but it just rubbed me the wrong way. :S

FF9. It had much better writing and characters than the other two.

I can recall the first at the end of disc 2/beginning of disc 3 after the death of Brahne, the other time jump being after rescuing Hilda and Cid fixing the Hilda Garde?

7 had the best characters, best story, music and ''world''
8 had the best set pieces
9 had the most coherent story, best dialogue, world design, and battle system, even if it was too slow. The job system was great.

I love all 3, but i LOVE some of those FF7 characters and the OST is one of my all time faves. So its my fave.

FFIX is the best in the franchise and it destroys VII and VIII.

Furthermore VIII is just a bad game.

Sounds right! It's like you've played the game before. :P

Like I said, it made sense in the story for those passages of time to be there but I wasn't a fan of missing all that potential character development. And everything just seemed to suddenly... calm and have to start up again. Oh well. I loved the game otherwise. ^_^

Judging from the responses in this thread, that's...8 votes for IX, 4 votes for VII, and 2 votes for VIII.

Meanwhile, VI got 10 votes (+1 from myself).

So yeah, it's always fun when FF VI wins polls that it wasn't even involved in. It really was the best in the series, and it should have been in the poll to begin with.

Final Fantasy IX is great.

Final Fantasy VII is decent

Final Fantasy VIII is awful with good music.

Final Fantasy 4 is better than all 3 of those. The only one that comes close is Final Fantasy 6. SE hasn't come close to those 2 games since Sakaguchi left.

I really should give FF5 a double take. Played it years ago and didn't enjoy the story and characters, but I think I'd appreciate the gameplay a lot more now than I did before.

FF8 or FF9. I'll probably pick FF8 because it was my first final fantasy game.

Could never get into FF7.

8 was the first final fantasy game I played so that gets my vote. Liked the art style in 9 though my favourite is 10.

Final Fantasy IX, loved the game back then, played it again on PSN and I still enjoy it. Even Sakaguchi called it his favorite and the closest view of what Final Fantasy should be, and I agree.
