FFXIII-2 Getting Negative Reactions on Twitter, 2ch and other Japanese boards

I've checked out twitter accounts of some of the people that I know who got games early. The game is getting pretty negative reactions so far. 2ch is filling with hate too and other Japanese boards that I visit have bad opinions.

The major complaints:

1. The story is terrible, as bad as the 3rd birthdays, except this time at least serahs annoying traits make a bit of sense on her

2. Noel is a shoehorn who doesn't belong in the game, terrible character motivations etc.

3. The towns are joke. You basically cant enter any house and theres hardly any NPCs in them

4. You start getting sick of JUST Serah/Noel after the first 15 hours or so...yes there are side characters with better development than XIII but they come for only half of each chapter

5. The graphics have taken a downgrade

6. No its not linear but once again there is really only one big massive roam area (archlytte steppe)

7. The levelling up is worse than the crystarium, some bonuses are cool but its based a lot on chance so it can get annoying.

8. The dialogue is ATROCIOUS

9. The story doesnt really develop much at all...it feels like nothing happens for a long long time.

10. Some people have conflicting views on the rap tracks

Some good thoughts:

1. The monsters being in the battle system is actually pretty brilliant. The sheer versatlity has improved by a lot

2. The QTEs are more like limit breaks than anything else which is good and most of them look epic

3. Chocobo being able to fly a bit is a good mechanic

4. The Red chocobo story quest is wayy more epic than the actual games story

5. Soundtrack is good.

So thats the general sum up from people who have played up to 20-30 hours of the game. I will update with more impressions as they come in

Mine is that square enix didnt fix anything.According to 3, they added towns, but you cant go into any buildings and theirs very few NPC's? LOL, thats just sugar coating.

I also find this funny: "The Red chocobo story quest is wayy more epic than the actual games story"

meh, i'm still going to form my opinion, i'm just going to wait for the price to drop, i got burned when i drop 60 on ff13 and was underwhelmed..never again

Of course, nobody asked the to re-make this garbage. They put FF verses on hold to put out a game no body wanted in the first place...what idiots. They were dancing to thier own toon and thinking they were going to rack in tons of profits riding on the hype of FFXIII because it sold,but it was a tash game and now they are being shown by fans that they don't appreciate it.

if they wanted to remake something it should have been something closer to FFXII

Gamespot already doesn't like japanese rpgs, this game is going to flop so hard here, but this time I wont even blame them. sub A review incoming.

From the moment it was announced even though there was all the talk of "improvements" I had a feeling it was going to be worse than XIII. But the game still hasn't been released so I'm not closing it out just yet.

Not all FF games are bad.

FF12 was amazing, people just didn't like the story. Perhaps because it wasn't melodramatic but I thought it was played out very well and the acting was excellent. Also anyone who took the time to learn the gameplay mechanics would find that it had the most one of the most impressive turn based combat and leveling systems of any turn based RPG.

Not all FF games are bad

Well there's a reason i'm picking it up on a price drop...

I played ff13 and didn't really enjoy the story that much, thou the game was entertaining till the end (which i disliked btw).

However i will be picking up the game, loved the visuals on the first one and will probably enjoy them here too.

If the game manages to pull me all the way to the end it's already a worthy purchase for me, i understand the fans have been really underwhelmed with the latest iterations and it's perfectly understandable but just hating on the game is not really the right move. Play it and enjoy what they done correctly or don't play it at all.

So great gameplay, great music (exceptmaybe rap tracks), a lackluster open area and an obnoxious and poorly executed story?

Seems to be turning out exactly like FFXIII...

As the posters in the GameFAQs thread have already asked, where are the sources? Where's the original Japanese source the OP is supposedly referring to? If there's no source, then those comments mean nothing.

Besides, why isn't there anything mentioned above the game's biggest selling points: the non-linear plot, dialogue choices, time travel, etc.? Sounds like bogus if you ask me.

I don't like Rap...and maybe is just me, but i don't see how could they fit into a FF game, specially if it is Mainstream Rap it would be so corny...i take that back, it would perfectly fit into a FF game :P

There is a difference between the usual JRPG crappy dialogue and the truly atrocious dialogue even by JRPG standars, don't know where XIII-2 lands, if it is like XIII, then is the same as most JRPGs.

It seems to me that Square Enix is taking a lot of cues from rival Atlus... including the non-linearity (i.e. nearly all of Atlus' games), the altering timelines (i.e. Radiant Historia), and now the rap music too (i.e. the Persona games).

I wouldn't mind if it was just a GOOD GAME.

Back when FF7came out, it went away from the normal medieval setting of FF. Away from its roots a little. But they actually made a good game out of it. I dont complain

Hmmm,well they gave a JRPG GOTY in 09 and the spiritual successor a 9.5,also a Wii only JRPG a 9.

When they´re good,they get good scores.

Look at what's going on with The Last Guardian and FFXIII before it was released.If I was looking forward to Versus, I'd be very worried.Especially with Square's track record.

Thanks for the hands-on impression compilation with this thread. Most of what was mentioned seemed about on target with what I felt was going to be wrong with this game. And unfortunately, if a FF game has a poor story, it typically becomes known as a bad FF. I'm still gonna pass.

Also....lol2chan. Basically the Japanesse predecessor of 'that' board. If it's anything like 'that' board, they will hate every game, doesn't matter if it's good or not.

Anyway, I was planning on preordering, but it seems I will wait for reviews first.

FFXIII was a good game, and yes, they are in a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation.

They have been in this situation since FFVII, lot's of people hate VII with passion because they want another FFVI, tons of people think that FFVII is overrated and that VIII was the better game, tons of people think that FFVII is the best JRPG ever, etc, etc, etc, with such a diverse fanbase and so many divided opinions Square will never please everybody, XII and XIII are a perfect example of this, even if they are good games.

FF12 also has a metacritic score over 90. But it has a very low user score, a huge difference between its metacritic andu ser score. i would say the user score is mroe accurate representation.

FF4-10 has a high user score.
