Another reason for me to skip XIII-2 for Soulcalibur V on the 31st. I'll just buy XIII-2 used when it hits the bargain bin in May. :D

I wanted to get both, but I'm bored of RPG's right now. I've been buying them and the ocassional shooter (to play online with friends) for the past 3 years now.
I have yet to purchase a retail fighter from this gen, and I've never played any of the Soulcalibur games (excluding SC1 on XBLA). But Soulcalibur V has peaked my interest, and I'm very excited for it.
And I'm also ready to kick some ass with Viola. :)

Same here!
I'm buying XIII-2 and renting SC5 though. I love 2 but wasn't a fan of 4, so I'm seeing if SC5 can last more than a week this time :P. If I do like it I'll buy it for sure.
As messed up as this is, no surprises here DLC/add-ons is pretty standard with games this gen. Remeber Dragon age 2 ( nicknamed DLC AGE 2) mass effect 2 and soon mass effect 3 not to mentiona all the BS activison does charging insane prices for map packs.
Buy second hand if you upset but lets not act like this is teh evil or Bad because EVERYONE in the industry is doing it.
[QUOTE="hakanakumono"]So. DLC is all around the gen. Who really cares now at this point. If it bothers you that you have to have monsters as tertiary party members in FFXIII-2 and are upset that Lightning isn't a playable character for much of the game despite being plastered all over any advertising for the game, fear not! You can still pay for Lightning.
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/24/report-lightning-dlc-scenario-coming-to-final-fantasy-xiii-2/#disqus_thread
A DLC boss fight will pit you against her. If you win she'll join your party.
Are you f*cking kidding me, Square?
hayato_
Like everyother game this gen as well???
Square-Enix isn't the only corporation that encourages the development team to do this :? I fail to see why this is different
hayato_
There are two things I must wonder
1. How much is each DLC going to cost?
2. Was Square-Enix planning this from the very beginning, or did this all pop up very late in the development of FFXIII-2, or just recently?
Whatever the case I don't really care that much about this, or atleast don't really view this much differently from most other DLC. Most other companies have been doing this this gen so I can't exactly say I'm shicked and appalled by Square doing this. And if I don't like it, I just won't buy it. If I WAS going to buy FFXIII-2, I'd want it for the main-quest and not really DLC content anyways...
Not that I am excited over this or reallt defending SE's decison or anything, just not really that mad or upset. DLC has, for better or worse, become a bug part of the gaming business, and SE, being a business, wants to try and cash in on it. *shrug*

When characters that have been advertised from the start are DLC that you have to pay for. The first trailer, hell the first picture had Lightning in it.
Lightning is even on the game's cover, and neither Serah or fruity-looking Noel has their faces on it.
I mean, who's bright idea was it to replace the most popular character with her younger sister and a guy from the future (who ironically dresses like a hippie) in a sequel to XIII?
Obviously SE thought of Lightning as a good selling point when they thought of plastering her face all over ads and trailers, but they put her on the sidelines for the majority of the game? That's pretty damn stupid.
And now the main character is in tacked-on DLC. WTF Square... :|

Yes they are not to mention the whole online pass malarkey, plz explain the differnce between dlc and dlc? in your own eyes because I can"t see any differnce at all.
It can't be as bad as Horse Armor in Oblivion
There has been much worse when some companies claim to have DLC, instead you pay to unlock things that are already in the game.
The demo was absolutely horrible. I don't think I'd buy it even if it was in the barain bin for $10.

That's my problem with this. My main gripe was that you have to pay extra for the ending.
I don't actually care about having Lightning as DLC. If you have been following the game you would know she isn't the main character of the game. I'm just pissed off at the bait and switch nature of it by having her plastered on everything involved with this game, hell, she's even on the limited edition Japanese FFXIII-2 PS3. I know people who liked FFXIII enough to try 2 and they all thought she was main character again due to all the trailers and ads she's in.
To me that just screams "Well, she's not the main character but seeing as you all bought the game to play as her you can pay a little extra and get just that".

I boycotted Batman: AC for the Catwoman bait and switch. I'm sure as hell won't touch this game.JLF1MarkII
I got the Catwoman + Robin DLC free just for buying the game (not even pre-order).
The store I go to has a first come first served policy, as long as they got DLC codes they just hand them out. Great store.
Yeah...this is getting worst and worst, i was going to get his game when it were 15 or 20 bucks but now, i don't know, i don't feel like getting an incomplete game, specially since the OP says, you barely play as Ligthning and she is the center of the whole marketing campaing!!! WTF!!!
I liked the demo despite the awful "freedom" they gave you (stupid fanboys) but know...i really don't know anymore.
Japanese developers have been strange with DLC. Some developers like Square Enix or Capcom abuse with the DLC while others like Atlus or Tri-Ace don't care and never intend of making DLC.
SE, this has been the biggest blow you have ever made.
Now, who expects in a few months SE will release FF13-2 Ultimate Edition?
Looks like square has "Bioware Syndrome"dream431caThat's what a company has to do when they don't like giving stuff away for free and know several hundred thousand people will pay for something with perceived value... despite it being given away for free in the past.
Stop whining and just get it, you know you're gonna... unless you're a broke bloke.

With how packed the game releases are this spring and summer there is no reason to waste money on games you are iffy about.
wow square really are trying to kill themselves these days arnt they, idiots, the last 2 FF's didnt go down great their new mmo is crap and instead of trying to get their fans back they just piss them off even more  tbh a FF7 remake is something i wouldnt want to see from these guys anymore they have completely lost what made them great

That's what they said about gas prices bro. The little things really do count.
I'm assuming for Square's sake that you aren't actually getting Lightning but rather someone/something that looks like Lightning, otherwise the story'd be all sorts of f***ed up.
The DLC epilogue though...
:| x 9999. Way to make the game seem incomplete before it's even out in NA.

You're an idiot.
XIII sold well because of hype alone. Many people hated XIII after playing it, and that's why XIII-2 flopped in Japan.
XIII-2 will be lucky to sell over 3 million copies worldwide, which is not even close to what XIII sold. Nobody asked for XIII-2, and SE is aware of that. They just scrapped together remains of XIII and tried to make a quick buck with as little effort as possible. Why else do you think this game was made in only 1.5 years?
"This is how things are going to be from now on so you had better learn to just accept it."

the games may have sold well but i cant see that lasting much longer, FF fans have bought FF games since X in the hope that that last bad one was a once off occurrence when it quite clearly is just the way FF has gone now, i used be a massive FF fan but i wont touch another one of the FF games again unless they change everything back to what made FF great, id say there are many people in the same boat tbh.
As for accepting it, well yeah i have, square are crap these days end of story
and to the poster that said i should play indie games, i do and i love them :) nice to see gaming hasnt gone completely down the toilet yet

I presume that you are relatively young, but you'll soon find that you can't.
I probably wasn't going to get the game anyway, despite thinking the first wasn't so bad.. But Lightning was the best thing about XIII. To charge people money to play as the best character is just plain dumb.

FFXIII sold but it failed to meet expectatios, hence the sequal. The only other time Square made a sequel was wen they sufferd a massive finacial loss due to the spirits within movie( thats why ffx-2 was made), Also given the poor sales in Japan (It sold 65% less than FFXIII in its first week) I doubt it will perform any better in america and europe.Myself personally I will never buy a new SE game ever again after FFXIII if i ever purchase it it will be pre-owned under $20 or new under $20
And no SE will not make a boatload off the DLC the only people who make boatloads off dlc are activision with call of duty.

so now selling a finished product/game for them is "giving stuff away for free" ? i'd actually be inclined to buy the game if this optional boss battle came with the game, y'know like every other ff until now.
