so a few months have past and this game still baffles me! how could the creators of FF7-10,12 which all got above a 90/100 score average create a game of such low quality?!

Because they released it when it was half finished. The new producer is literally overhauling every aspect of the game and releasing new content at the same time. Quote me on this, when the PS3 version goes live it will get a 8.5 or better.

The creator of FF7 isn't with square enix anymore. That was the downhill for FF series, I thought ff12 was great though but went in the wrong direction after that.

From the sound of things, a 5/10 is a very generous score. Even if they manage to finish the game now, they already severely damaged their reputation.

FFXI was a great MMO that over 1 million people have played. It was extremely successful and still has 200k active players today, 8 years after launch.

And I'm sure if it was a RPG, more people would have enjoyed it.

If anything Final Fantasy X started the downward spiral. That's where things became less about exploring, batles, and the over world, etc and more focused on a cinematic experience. That's not to say FFX wasn't enjoyable but I think that is where the downfall started since that is when Square-Enix's direction changed in regard to the series.

What about Final Fantasy 12? I think that square enix is getting way to much criticism. Final Fantasy 12 encouraged open world probably more than any other FF.

If they really wanted to make another MMO they should have just taken FFXI updated the graphics, reduced the grind, advance the time line of that world a couple hundred years, allow people still playing FFXI to have some kind of incentive to move to the new game and made the menus more streamlined rather than bulkier and more awkward. Instead they pretty much did everything they shouldn't have. It looks nice though.

true but people couldve bought it thinking this is gonna be awesome and later been dissapointed i dont think its a bad game but compared to ff7 thru 10 its a dissapointment for me im still gonna buy versus day one off brand name alone because im wishing the best but after that im done looking at the franchise as a day 1 buy and i wonder how the sequel to ff13 will do with lightning itll show if the majority of people hated ff13 or liked it or not when it comes out

srry my grammar sucks

Id have to agree it was the downfall of the series it was the first game to have plot holes one could not look past. Thankfully Sakaguchi even at that time had less to do with final fantasy before he left square so he cant be blamed for the travisty that final fantasy became because of 7.

I personally wouldnt say that, I LOVED FFXIII and am looking forward to the sequel, and at the same time Square looks to be doing a full 360 on FFXIV...they seem to be overhauling everything and doing everything they can to cater to the fans. Plus I get the feeling that half the people here who are saying that FFXIV is beyond saving blahblahblah have most likely not even played the game. Just a note though, I have not played FFXIV so my statement there may be a little false as I am only going off of stuff I have read on news outlets and forums, if I am wrong feel free to correct me

and this thread isnt about SE in general because they're doing fine as a company, its about the FF franchise and how a company with such a great repuation for their 1-10,12 iterations could make a disaster like FF14

FFX was fantastic and one of my favourite FF's, 12 was pretty damn good aswell. Actually now that i say that, i also loved 13 so i'm hardly objective when it comes to FF ... carry on :P

I don't know why you didn't include the critically acclaimed masterpiece that FFXI was, but the fact of the matter is, SE released FFXIV as early as they did to divert attention away from other games like SWTOR, Rift, or WoW: Cataclysm. When this game is re-released for PS3 it will be up to standards.

well, that doesn't seem like a well thought out plan, because only part of the plan worked: people are thinking about FFXIV, but the part that failed is that everyone sees it as a disaster

True, true. But I do find an an overwhelming amount of gamers not only had 7 as their first FF experience, but also their first rpg experience and because of that many of them consider it the best of all time.

I enjoyed FFVII a lot, but I think it just gets an unwarrented amount of praise at times.

So what? I can't enjoy VII as one of my favorite games because I started playing Final Fantasy prior to it? I love almost all Final Fantasy games and very few of them really irk me and VII stands up as one of my favorite of the series. Then again it can't be because I "know better" because I played the older games prior to it... Then again my opinion is moot to most because I'm one of the few crazy fools still playing FFXIV and enjoying it, well "was" I'm now waiting for them to bring the servers back up after Japan got all kinds of hurt. I'm willing to bet that the PS3 launch of XIV will turn alot of opinions about the game around, but thats me placing my bets on the new producer seems like a standout guy.

The game is so bad that they didn't charge people after the initial month ended because they wanted people to stay until they 'fixed it'. Even that didn't prevent people from leaving in flocks. They stopped having public tracking of the server population about a month ago.

The creator of FF7 isn't with square enix anymore. That was the downhill for FF series, I thought ff12 was great though but went in the wrong direction after that.

There is no single creator responsible for FFVII. It was a joint effort. If it were Sakaguchi's project, we'd be playing as "hot blooded detective Joe."

You know oddly enough that would of been kind of cool.
