There is already a PSP remake though, it costs around $30why not release the PSP remake instead of the ps1 version?

It wasn't even a very good game :|
Without the Final Fantasy name no one would care about these ancient, antiquated and plain mediocre RPG's (referring to the first three).
WAIW
I would, they are old games and as such inherently flawed but I still think that without the FF name I would have enjoyed them just as much. Or are you saying I'm a blind fanboy?

You are so, so right. "Almost nobody would care about these..." is what I should have said. Any game and every game has people that like it, no matter the name, level of quallity or anything else.It wasn't even a very good game :|

Final Fantasy I is not a mediocre RPG by any means. Granted, it may seem dated compared to modern RPGs, but at the time of its original release it was one of the best RPGs you could get on a console. The various remakes over the years have helped update the game and move it closer to modern standards.
However, even the orginal NES version is hardly a mediocre game. It may feel dated, but its still a polished well-made game that I still play to this day.
FF I deserves respect for being a high-quality RPG that still appeals to fans and sees new releases on a regular basis. Its not successful because it has the Final Fantasy name attached to it, it reamins successful because its still an excellent RPG.
Without FF I's contrubtion to gaming there would be no Square Enix.

Please tell me what you like about the game compared to other RPG's.
I find that compared to standard 6th-7th gen RPG's; it doesn't look good, it doesn't play well or differently from other RPG's, and the narrative is underdeveloped trash.

Regardless of the version you play, the game looks good when compared to other 8-bit or 16-bit titles. It play very well in the fact that the classes areunique, the boss fights areinteresting, and its an accomplishment to clear a dungeon. As for the battle system, it stills holds up after all these years. One thing to remember is that most RPGs owe their basic gameplay and combat systems to what Ultima, Dragon Quest I, and Final Fantasy I founded years before. Yes, they feel more advanced, but strip away the fancy combat systems and skill advancement systems and the foundations from those three games laid are stillapparent. Do you still go through menus to pick commands in an RPG battle(Even in a real time battle system)? Do you still gain EXP from battles?
As for the storyline, I enjoyed it. Yes, it has no chance of matching up to the storylines of 6th or 7th generation RPG, but then, very RPGs in that era had storylines that would match up with modern RPGs.
The problem with your argument is that you are comparing it to a 6th-7th generation RPG. Of course its gonna lose when compared to modern titles, it was developed in a older era where the standards of a quality RPG where different. Its like saying Super Mario Brothers sucks compared to Super Mario Galaxy because SMB looks dated, has a horrible storyline compared to SMG, and has fewer variety in levels.
If that argument can't fly against SMB, than the 6th-7th gen RPG argument can't work against FFI. The various remakes and releases were never designed to compete with the modern RPGs of their day, they were attempts to update the graphics to 16-bit standards in the hopes of attracting a new generation of gamers to the title.
As for the reason why I like FFI, its very simple. I like the game for its setting, gameplay, The ability to replaynumeroustimes with a different party, and the general style of the game. Yes, its not the greatest RPG I've ever played, but I still love the game and play it almost yearly.
It's one of my favorites and I've beaten them all. :) Don't get the point of this release though...there's the NES, PS1, GBA, PSP versions already. It wasn't even a very good game :|

I love how people decide it's "Cool" to bash anything with the name Final Fantasy on it nowdays. It's just too bad that these people are cutting themselves off from some of the best JRPG's there are out there.Jynxzor

based upon what bashing in this thread? no what your seeing is a logcal debate on how square being a remake company now rererererererererereleased final fantasy 1 on so many different systems and portable devices that its inane they are now releaseing it on psn and expecting peopel to pay 10 dollars for it.
Square doesn't make new IP's or new parts of a franchise any more in the way they should they instead spend 3-4 years on them and ride their old titles that they endlessly rerelease often with out any new content or upgrade at all.

Hence, without the FInal Fantasy name, the number of people looking forward to this would be much smaller. It has nothing tha makes it exceptional by today's standards; to the contrary, I feel it is below average for an RPG in today's world of gaming. If you like the game today for what it was yesterday, fine. I can't think that way.

^That + FFVIII.
Amazon + PS2 = Very nice? Honestly, it is a nice thing that they are rerererererereleasing the Final Fantasy games on a different medium. Not everybody was hardcore back in the days like SW, and some *gasp* have not played all the Final Fantasy games and don't have mommies and daddies that buy them a PSP where they could have potentially enjoyed the first one. Now that it is coming to the PSN on the PS3, people who own the PS3 can enjoy Final Fantasy.based upon what bashing in this thread? no what your seeing is a logcal debate on how square being a remake company now rererererererererereleased final fantasy 1 on so many different systems and portable devices that its inane they are now releaseing it on psn and expecting peopel to pay 10 dollars for it.Certanly SE remakes there games way too much, but I see way to much hate on the series itself that it doesn't deserve. Hell I'm not too enthralled that they are re-releasing the game "Again" either, but hey at least people who never played it have the chance. I would much rather see the costs put into making FF13 or V13 come out a little sooner.

And why are you compareing FFI to modern RPGs? Like I said before, what you are doing is like somebody compareing Super Mario Brothers to Super Mario Galaxy. As I said before, the game can't compare to modern RPGs because it was desgined in a different era. FFI does not get by simply because it carries the Final Fantasy name. It still sees ports on modern systems because people love the game and it was a success back when it first came out in Japan and the US.
I fail to see how the battle system is generic when it was one of the first games to use it.
Its notable because it and DQI helped introduce concepts that are still used in modern RPGs. Its fine if you want to dislike FFI, but you need a better reason than it doens't compare to modern RPGs. Going by that logic, almost any game over 15 years old would look dated and generic compared to modern games.
