FFXII-Girly man as main character
FFX-Slightly less girly man as main character AND had Auron in it, the most badass RPG character that ever lived.
I guess it's FFX. :P
Don't get me wrong though, I love the Final Fantasy series ever since I first started playing them, but I really wish that Square would stop making such feminine characters just to appeal to the female crowd. I mean, Cloud and Leon were angsty, but at least you could tell they were male.

i really think everyone who thinks FFXII is a better game than FFX needs to play both games again. i mean sure FFXII is a shorter game but still.FFX was longer(good thing), had better characters, had a story you could understand, the aeons were better, and the music is AWESOME(especially the battle theme music).as you might of guessed, my pick is FFX.

You can easily put in 200+ hours into FFXII if you wanted to. Tons of sidequests pretty much right off the bat.
I am not a fan of the FF series however, FFX was my favorite FF game. The pacing was great and it really allowed for newer players to get into it.
Outdated turn-based gameplay with boring linear progression?I must have tried 10 times to understand the combat in 12 and failed to every time. 10 is what the series should be building on.

I haven't played 10 yet, but I'm currently 55 hours into 12 and loving every minute of it. I had to take a break for the U3 beta, but I'm voting for FF12. I just love how the characters are pretty awesome unless most JRPGS. And like many people have already stated, Balthier is awesome.

FF13?
Granted I haven't played it, but I've heard plenty of you guys and critics to know that it didn't live up to the Final Fantasy name. Now they should try building on FF12 and see the results :D
FF10 was more emotional for me, kind of a no brainer though lol. But gameplay/mecahnics wise I really enjoyed FF12. So for me at least it was the question of a better experience vs a system that is more fun.
and I don't play blitzball..... I rather play minigames from FF7...chocobo racing, FF8/9 card and 12.....hunting monsterhippiesantaSomeone didn't win the blitzball tournament :P

FF10 wins easily...FF12 is my least favorite final fantasy as it bored me to death. It was the only final fantasy i've played that I haven't been able to finish (tho i have gotten pretty far). The story was just bland and it bugged me that half of your party had no part in the plot later on. Also the License board and gambit system were TERRIBLE.
Oh my lord. Final Fantasy 10. Sure I did like the political angle of 12 but its characters were completely and utterly loathsome in every sense of the word. Its gameplay was just tedious and absolutely no fun at all, even though the graphics were amazing the action was just so visually unappealing it almost didn't even matter.
4 year old thread lol, but X decimates XII. Every other 3-D FF is better than XII actually (Dunno about 1-6 though, haven't played them), I didn't hate it but for me it is the weakest game in the series. I disliked the MMOish battle interface, I disliked the story and the characters. It was way to political in it's story, while X had a good story, turn based battles and a great cast of characters. Some people seem to hate XIII, but I'm glad XIII turned out the way it did rather than continue XII's way of doing things. But you know what, even if after disliking a bunch of things about it I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my playthough of it, it just gets pushed to the bottom when compared to FF VII-X-2 and XIII for me.
FFX coz of the story, music ... FFXII gameplay was faster, it felt better at some point, but I spent more time playing FFX , I finished the game mutiple times, compared to a single poor walkthro through FFXII which If may add has very poor cast of characters and story ... music too :? .
FFXII is a good game, with a strong presentation of a dull story. FFX is a good game, with a weak presentation of a strong story.
I'm going to have to go with FFX.
Final Fantasy X by far... one of my favourite games of all time. I wasn't even able to complete FFXII

Balthier owns all 8)
Definitely, I'll agree with you on that, within the FFXII world anyway. Shame, he would've made a cool main character. :D
Agreed, in terms of the story, there was very little reason for Vaan or Penelo to even be there. I loved both games, its a tough one but I would probably have to go with FFX as the story was far superior.Level 21 and only 4 posts? areyouawizard.jpgI think people like FF10 more because it was more manipulative. It relied on cheesier characters that spilled their hearts out every time they had a chance. The plot was not predictable, but it was formulaic. The storyline was interesting, but not intriguing or even inspiring. There was some good voiceacting on the part of Auron, but generally Tidus was whining the whole way through which was a real turn-off.
What made it even stranger was how every character was clearly there to fill a role. I mean, think about it. I realize the whole "It's my [Tidus'] story" aspect was played up a bit, but the problem with some of the older FFs is that they're stuck on making each of the characters cliche'd companions instead of actual characters in themselves. They provided backstory to make it SEEM like they were rounded or complex, but in the end it really felt shallow. Really what they're doing is simply filling in slots in the party.
That's not to say FFX was bad - actually it was pretty good. But FFXII was interesting in that it didn't focus on prividing that (dare I say it?) emo-Anime feel that sucks so many in. What it did was try to create a continuous, possibly believable, world. The MMO feel that many complain about is a by-product of making the world just so much more "alive". For example, you randomly find other guys (hunters or Clan Members) who are doing their own thing, and perhaps will throw you a heal or help you out on a hunt. When you complete a quest or a hunt, you'll hear people in a nearby city talk about. The whole experience is much more complete and the sheer amount of content is amazing. Yes, the characters aren't as transparent as in FFX, but that's not a bad thing. The fact that you DON'T know everything about them makes them more believable and interesting, as opposed to the stereotyped characters usually scattered throughout the other FFs. Also, their voice acting is just SO MUCH BETTER than FFX's it's not even funny. I know some people might like the anime-style of FFX (sort of...), but FFXII's theater actors were just so much more believable and the writing was almost always superior.
But most people just run the main storyline expecting the same anime-plot progression and character "development" that they're used to. Maybe that's what people like about FF. Maybe that's why everyone bashes FFVIII. FFVIII was the other game that tried to break the limited scope of the franchise and develop the context - the world.
Ok, that was pretty long and most people prolly won't agree, but what the heck. But yeah, I voted for FFXII 8)
Edit: Oh, and the Arabian?/European mix of cultures was just too darn cool. The art style was amazing in my opinion. But to each their own.
Rekalys
FF10:
+ Cool environments
+Cool characters
+ Blitzball is the best mini game of a FF game
- Story was easy, side bosses was superhard
+ Great music
- A bit too linear
FF10-2:
A really good game too, with a very fun combat with all the different clothes. and plenty plenty of quests to do!
FF12:
+ Wonderfully open and big
- Boring environments
- The most boring and forgettable characters in a game ever.
- Bad and forgettable music
+ Combat system was fun
- Story was too political and last boss felt like "meh" and felt like some random no name boss.
Conclusion:
FF10 > FF12 > FF10-2
