they got rid of FF12's battle system which is a big letdown for me i really liked 12;s battle system

njean777

Actually it's like FF12's battle system. You still have control of your character. You can still queue-up commands for them to perform. It'll be more dynamic though and there will be a separate battle screen. I liked how FF12 had all action/gameplay on the actual roaming map.

EDIT: I just read up on the battle system. I don't think you can queue-up commands like FF12. I think you perform them back to back until you run out of AP. And from the looks of things you may only control one character during an entire battle.

[QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"][QUOTE="TREAL_Since"] I think that makes it more dynamic :?. I like that about it. You actually have more control over your character than any final fantasy game before.TREAL_Since

I don't think that makes it any better really. All of the Final Fantasy games had somewhat poor combat and RPG gameplay. Most of the time and money was spent on the flashy CG and story. most RPG games can easily blend story and gameplay together(Kotor, Witcher, Mass effect, etc. etc.)

Wait... You're comparing WRPGs to JRPGs :?. For what a JRPG encompasses, the Final Fantasy series has always been top notch in the gameplay department. Different type of battle system than a game like The Elders Scroll.Hard to directly compare and say Final Fantasy had *poor* gameplay.

It seems like they are mixing traditional turn based commands with western sty|e rpg free roaming. Kind of like FFXII, but better.

I have played better JRPGS then Final Fantasy. The paper mario series comes to mind. And not all WRPG's are freeroam. Some older WRPG's are turnbased like Fallout. And the combat in Fallout was very fun I must say. Theirs also more to gameplay in RPG's besides just combat.

Not free roam as in "go anywhere you want". I meant it as "in control of your character's movement" in battle.

There may RPGs with deeper battle systems/gameplay than the Final Fantasy series. But to call it poor is really stretching it IMO. Sure there's more to gameplay than combat. There's sidequests, exploration, and mini games. Things that Final Fantasy games cover as well.

Wow.

The graphics.................

BananaNuts

I love the art and detail, but the graphics are nothing special in HD pics i saw, yet it is the art that makes it one of the most beautifull games around

Hooray, a playable JRPG! It looks good to me, considering it's an early demo.

I guess they aren't poor but they are "outdated." The combat in most FF games was mainly hammering the X button to kill most of the enemys. It was really during the boss fights were you actually needed to do something a little different.

The gameplay looke well paced and the graphics looked good despite the horrid stream from Justin.tv. Also, Justin.tv chat has some of the most annoying people on it.

Yes it does have side quests and exploration but they are limited and somewhat medicore. The mini games I felt at times were also pretty lame. I only liked a few.

So they just weren't challenging enough for you? I think the depth is there though. Bosses and side quests were the real challenges. But standard enemies and story progression is quite easy I agree.

I have 16mb from Comcast, everything works smooth except Justin.tv streams. I dont get why. But, the quality of videos from that site are almost always crap, atleast the ones I watch.

A few things (keep in mind that I did'nt see Lightning's part): Tactics please. Attack Attack Attack Attack. Thats all you do. No items, no blocking, just chain attacks together and you win. Stop looping that song, it sucks for battle. The Wakka knock-off has the most retarded stance ever. Wierdest movement i've seen since inFAMOUS. Was eerily similar to the beginning of FFX. I hope the level design, characters, and story are far above that title or else we're in trouble. Graphics look spectacular. Hard to judge from a low-quality stream but everything, especially particle effects, look great. Still not KZ2 though. This may be a bit pre-mature, but I can already tell Versus will be the better game. I'll try to find the first half later as the video does'nt seem to be repeating. :( [QUOTE="CoreoVII"]

Man.......I hope the story isnt flat out boring. (ie. FF10 and FF12). I mean i hope they make you give a crap about at least some of the characters.

The battle system seem's............I can't wait for Versus.

Could not agree more.

You can :). You can strafe around while you select your next command. But it's not excactly like FF12.

I agree with the last part. It just isn't clicking with me, man.

I agree also. I have a feeling that if this was any other game that people would not be so amazed.

I bet you haven't even played half those games. And I'm sure you haven't played FFXIII yet either. So I stand by my observation. The battle system looks boring. :)
