Are you saying the Final Fantasy franchise is dying? GTFO. FFX had much more hype behind it, first major RPG for the PS2. FFXII had a new battle system which put a lot of fans off, and the game was crap in general.

FFXII also launched in November '06. Along with the Wii and PS3 launch, and 360 getting Gears of War. Money could've been spent somewhere else. Franchises don't just crash and burn.

This is a best-case scenario. This doesn't take into account people who have bought the system for another reason and just purchased the game because they wanted it. I bought a PS2 for the amount of third-party support it had and I bought a Xbox 360 for the foresight it would get all the best games. I just bought Halo 3 because I wanted to. Same goes for FFX and FFXII.

I'm a hardcore FF-fanboy that firmly believes FF > Halo. However, I'm not immune to reality...and the reality is that when it comes to moving consoles, Halo > FF.

Also, I'm aware of FFXII's shortcomings. Maybe it's "lower than expected" sales can be justified with excuses.

FFX does not have that luxury. It was easily one of the most anticipated games to hit the ps2. Halo 2 outsold it :?

The game sales? They're ripped from Sony/MS press releases. Fact.

The fact that a game can't sell more consoles, than actual game disks? Again, fact....

You've attacked my post based on the idea that total game sales don't represent how many people actually purchased the console for the game and how many people already owned one.

Which is true, but using logic it should be fairly obvious.

Over 40% of the Xbox userbase bought Halo 2.

Less than 5% of the ps2 userbase bought FFX.

Halo 2 was the reason most people owned an Xbox last gen.

Do you not understand that your use of the word "maximum" in your original post completely destroys the point you're trying to make? The TC's point was that Final Fantasy is a bigger system-seller than any other franchise, including Halo. You countered his argument by saying that a maximum of 14 million Xbox's were purchased for Halo versus a maximum of 11 million PS2's purchased for Final Fantasy. Essentially, your use of the word "maximum" is functioning as "possibly." It's possible that 14 million Xbox's were purchased for Halo, but we all know that isn't true. It's possible that 11 million PS2's were purchased for Final Fantasy, but we know that isn't true, either. As I said, your argument is purely hypothetical. It's a best-case scenario. Nobody here, including yourself, has any way of knowing how many systems were purchased strictly to play one particular game.
