It's already on the PS3. You can download the PS1 version on the PS3. That's essentially what's going on with this version. It's not a remake. Somebody just went through the game code and added in achivements. Big whoop.

I highly doubt they would release a game with a crazy low max resolution. There is a mod apparently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIgvYq49lIQ You're right, the environments are horribly pixelated but the fights look alright. Maybe Square will do an HD remake and at least allow 1080p, but for that price I doubt it.
