Final Fantasy 7 remake is the ONLY thing that can redeem square....

Square Enix tries something different and people complain. If they make another that's more traditional I guarantee there will be people who complain about how it doesn't do anything different.

I would have thought they would have more chance "redeeming" themselves with a brand new IP, that way they don't have any inflated expectations to live up to from long running fans. Im sure the last story would have redeemed them already in many people eyes had it been localised :(.

Maybe if Square Enix followed the blueprint which made Square Soft so legendary in the past (like making new IPs and not relying solely on FF), then they wouldn't be so hated. Have you seen the quality AAA titles Square Soft made? Square Enix has not even touched that legacy, only obliteration has come from this merger.

No. There's a high chance that SE's terrible "fanbase" will hate on it by saying things like: "YOU GUYS RUINED CLOUD'S HAIR! CANCELLING PRE-ORDER!!!" or "OMG WHY IS X NOT LIKE Y". Besides, it will take alot of time to complete. SE has themselves said it would take 7 years to complete a FF remake. Oil_rope_bombs

Worst part of all, i can actually see this happening, hell, i could almost bet that FF7 Remake would be even more hated than FFXIII and probably by even more insignificant reasons.

Or they could bring Cavia back to life so we can get a sequel to NieR.:D

Didn't SE say they had more stuff planned for NieR? I remember reading about it not too long ago...

The last Final Fantasy game I enjoyed was X, however even that had it's bad parts especially with it's annoying voice actors (ughh....seriously).

After that the FF series just spiraled into garbage IMO, 12 was nothing special, 13 was absolutely embarrissing, and all the VS looks like milkage. I honestly don't see how 13 and 12 (or 11) got high reviews, especially 12 because that game was so boring and you just pressed the x button.

If they remade FF7 it might redeem them in my eyes, but until then they are just not worth my time. Especially when you have Bethesda and Bioware out on the market making games that are ACTUALLY enjoyable and not a snooze fest with bad story lines and annoying voice actors. Or bad costumes for that matter (seriously they look like cross dressers, gross)

Remake can't redeem them, a fresh and new title will only do that.

They could have made FF7 Remake with all the money they blew on FF 14 ( The MMO)

Also like it or not Deus EX, Hitman, Tomb Raider etc etc are all under SE so they count still not sure why they need redeeming.

Ovveracting much. It seems like at least to me the only game that crashed and burned was the recent ff14.

Maybe in the eyes of a certain group of fanboys. But in my eyes it would actually confirm why they would need to redeem themselves in some way, nowadays all they give us is a remake of a 14(?) year old game. :|

I disagree. The story in FF13 was great. FF12 Revenant Wings was amazing too and that was a spinoff game on DS! (Gameplay in that one was fantastic as well).

My only problem with FF13 was that it felt like I was just coating along between cutscenes and, by the time the crystal tree thing opened up enough for me to advance my hcaracters the game was over. So with no purpose other than trophies/100% what reason do I have to grow my characters at that point? A new game plus would have been awesome as I'd love to play thru again with tougher enemies. This would also remove some of the tediousness of grinding.

The strange thing about the story was that it was mostly in text form in the menus. In the older games they would have told this story via towns and discussion with characters so it's a shame they ditched that model.

IMM the mistake they made with FF13 was 100% gameplay. Still, at least they're trying to progress the genre.

If the only thing that can redeem them is a remake of their most popular game then they are in serious trouble. The only thing that can ACTUALLY save Square is for them to re-structure the way they develop games, because their current method of just paying people to draw absurd concept art for 5 years and then try to string some kind of ridiculous story through it just plain isn't working. They need better programmers, better game designers, and their producers need to run a tighter ship instead of letting the inmates run the asylum.

If they want to win over the public they should promote FF Versus XIII to a full-fledged numbered FF title-- specifically, Final Fantasy XV-- and then actually put some people to work on it. The fact that they had to divert the entire game's team to work on FFXIII-2 shows not only how backwards Square's priorities are, but also how inneficient their development environment is that FFXIII-2's staff couldn't finish it without sucking up the talent from Square's other projects.

A new franchise will redeem them.

If anything,A Final Fantasy 7 remake would cause me to look down on Square even more than I already do.

What would actually make Square redeem themselves is....I dunno,maybe making unique solid games like Parasite Eve,Vagrant Story,Chrono Trigger,Final Fantasy Tactics.Front Mission 3?

But I guess that would just make too much sense.

It's obviously easier to just milk money off of gullible basement dwellers with Cloud,Yuffie and Tifa figurines sitting on their night stand.

Why would you remake a masterpiece like this ? It would totally ruin the atmosphere and charm the game has.
