[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"]Third highest selling franchise in gaming that has stood the test of time through 4 (going on 5) generations is CLEARLY "overrated garbage". :roll:GQ_Smoothie07
Look when you have 12 FF and a 13th on the way and all the dumb spin offs it has had also your bound to have a few good ones in there. I'll give you FF7 on PS1 and FF 12 on PS2 well that one was hit or miss even some diehard FF fans did not like FF12. But anyway there is plenty of less then steller FF games that have come out thats for sure.
Okay. First of all, think before you type. I mean, if you're capable of doing that.First of all, FF7 was a huge success. FF8 was also a success, as was IX. Final Fantasy Tactics is considered a landmark title in the Strategy RPG genre, sold more than a million copies, and is still considered one of the best games of all-time. All the while, Square also released some of their most critically acclaimed games such as Xenogears, Vagrant Story, and Chrono Cross. Square then released X on the PS2, which was a massive bestseller, and then X-2, due to fan request, which still sold more than a million copies, and so was not a flop. It was also not a flop, critically. XI was not a flop commercially (in fact, Square had problems with too many people playing the game)... Critically it did quite okay, which is especially hard for an MMORPG, seeing as how a majority of them fail in the end. All the while, Square released 2 Kingdom Hearts games, which were critically acclaimed, and commercial successful. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced was also critically acclaimed, and sold quite well. Crystal Chronicles sold decently, was critically accepted, and especially acclaimed for its multiplayer, which proves that Square is in fact capable of multiplayer. Final Fantasy XII was critically acclaimed, even receiving a 40/40, the sixth game to do that in the magazine's then 20 year history. The only reason it was, how you say, not liked by "diehard" fans (I'm a diehard fan, BTW...) was probably because of the departure in battle style. It was different, seeing as how all of the main series FF's (not including XI) were turn-based games, more than half based off the ATB system. It differed from the norm, and a majority of JRPGs are turn-based as well, so there was more to the dislike than the fact that it was poorly executed. It was executed brilliantly, but it was experimental, and most definitely a risk for Square, which you have to admire. XIII will not flop, nor will it sell the PS3 for everyone. It sold the PS3 for me, though, and I am buying the system when XIII comes out. You see, your opinion does not apply to everybody, so, as long as you do not understand this concept to the fullest extent, it would be best that you didn't talk about it. You're entitled to your own opinion, but waving them around as arrogantly as you do, I'd steer clear of any argument and just keep your mouth shut.Â
