@lundy86_4: It will be great it they would do that. I like how fast pace the combat is, even as a kid I never been a big turn based fan. Looking forward to finish FF7 for a tenth time
@da_illest101: FF8 would look great with a remake... Maybe they could change up a lot of the melodrama as well with a re-imagining.
Yeah, the combat is looking cool... Turn-based had it's time, but i'm not a big fan anymore.
I might be one of the rare ones, but I actually liked the melodrama in FF VIII
It looks the part, but still not hyped because I know how bad SE are now... and this is the director that made the S*it FF games....
It could still easily be a shallow walk to the end affair without all of the features that made the original great. If there is no world map (and I mean a proper one) ... im done, not going to give it the light of day... if its at least not 90% feature complete to the original.
Looks fucking GORGEOUS and it is great seeing those classic characters brought to life.
I do worry about the combat changing up but we shall see. I would have still loved keeping the old combat, just with having them kill the damage cap, doing some balancing, adding some materia, and in taking up some of the improvements X made to the combat like being able to swap party members mid-battle and making each character feel unique.
In the mean time, I am playing through the original again and DAMN I love this game!
What I really want most is ff12 on a platform other than ps2, maybe now that we're getting ps2 games on ps4 it could happen.
@kozio: .... A person wouldn't be able to physically wield that sword to begin with regardless how big they are..

Fantasy.
Exactly my point, so why does it matter if he needs to be bulkier, when we have already made the conclusion it is a fantasy and it doesn't matter how big he is compared to his sword.
Looks sweet I can't wait. I'm a little bit concerned about the combat so hopefully, it turns out well.

Skinny powerful dude is the point but not way too fookin skinny, he looks beautiful and fit, but have immersive power in his body (hence the word "fantasy"). I know. That's how he was originally designed. I guess they wanted to follow the original script, because Barret at some point says to Cloud: "get your skinny ass and come over here!" All characters looked like Lego toys in the original so none could notice how skinny Cloud really was. This was definitely ok back in the PS1 days. However, I feel it doesn't translate well with the new "realistic" graphics. Pause the video at 0:53. Tell me he doesn't look like he belongs in a concentration camp. Also, I know he's young here and in coma for five years right before the events of the game, but maybe they should give him the build he had in Advent Children, or Kingdom Hearts. He will definitely look better. He looks really sickly at the end of the trailer. Not just because he's on the skinny side, but in his face too. Maybe they will make him get progressively healthier as the game goes on and eventually looking like he did in Advent Children. That would be a cool feature.
i still dont know how they are going to pull it off. one thing the trailer seems to have clear is that they only have up to around the second boss in a demonstratable state. this is the easy stuff, relatively speaking. its going to get harder and harder.
still i like that they are going in a different direction gameplay wise from the original. not that the original is bad...it would just be pointless taking the original and giving it a lick of paint.
Considering Cloud was in coma for 5 years right before the events of the game, him being very skinny makes sense.
I kinda wish cloud had beefier arms but he would look ridiculous in drag during the wall market section. I mean we're going to be talking about remake Tifa and Aeris here. Beefy Cloud wouldn't stand a chance of catching the Don's eye.
I cant look at Cloud's hairstyle and ever want to play as this character LOL
lol I hear ya man. I really enjoyed the game back in the day. And even looking at the original now, it's not so bad... I mean yeah, it's an eye sore, but that style works for that level of 3d graphics.
Clouds design just comes across lame with todays graphics and a semi realistic aesthetic. I think I would prefer a more stylized look for this game, something like this for Cloud.
Seeing him look like a real dude rolling with that style just looks funny.
That said, of all the potential deal breakers this game will have for me, Cloud looking goofy isn't one of them.
It looks nice. Combat seems a bit iffy and there's no way Cloud's scrawny ass arms can carry that sword off the ground let alone swing it, but it definitely looks like they're heading in the right direction with this.

On the flipside, Barret is looking to be on the BAMF tier. I'd rather we play as him.
I agree Cloud would be better with bigger arms, but not to explain how hes able to weild the buster sword.. How do you think hes able to shoot lightning out of his hands and jump 100ft in the air.. Just give the man a beard and a set of arms ffs he looks too feminine.

I agree with you on this one. I find that Final Fantasy VII should have a more cartoon look instead of a realistic one. Cloud looks fine in a cartoonish style like that picture that you posted and in the original game itself, but in the remake which uses a realistic look makes him look very odd. And the same goes with the other characters in FFVII as well.
It looks fucking awesome! I just think Cloud looks a bit scrawny. And hopefully, they won't cut anything out.
Yup.

Yep, agreed. I mean, I'm with @drinkerofjuice, Barret does translate well. His character doesn't bother me at all, he actually looks cool.
But overall, yes, I've always envisioned FFVII with a cartoon aesthetic.
I think a lot of gamers have this image in mind when thinking about the FFVII cast.
And here's the kicker.
If they went with that style, this could be a remake that holds up for years to come. We're at a point in which they could nail graphics like that and the style would stand the test of time.
This more realistic style will age very quickly. It might even look dated on day 1 depending on how long it takes for this to release.
I know there is no point in bitching about it now, they're well into development, but it sucks thinking about what might have been.
@walloftruth:
Yeah, the cutscenes look great, but the real time bits already show a good looking game for now that will go the same route as other gritty looking games later.
It's no biggie, that's just how it goes with most games, I just personally believe a more stylized look would have been better.
Also, to be fair, we're only seeing Midgar. I might have a different opinion after seeing other locales.

If Final Fantasy VII looked like that it would be awesome. I'm not knocking on realistic graphics but an art style like this would be cool.
I'm not interested in the game especially with all the lol ATB stuff JRPGs are known for, but am I the only one that thinks graphics looked like shit?
Cloud's arms look fine. His arms might look skinny, but the important thing is that his muscles are toned and defined, like Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee looked skinny, yet he was known for being incredibly strong (he bench-pressed with weights heavier than his entire body mass). His physique looked skinny because he had a very low fat-to-muscle ratio, which is ideal for speed and stamina as well as strength (even Arnold Schwarzenegger was envious of Lee's physique). You don't need to look beefy to be strong.
