At least we know that Kojima fully expects a shit train of haters on multiple levels and doesn't give a ****. He was up front about it. MGSV is going to piss people off and he doesn't care.

I was so glad to hear it too, good on him.

Well in Japan no one really needs to give a shit about American feminist movements... I mean it won't even affect sales either.

Well yeah, but I guess in MGSVs case it'll go beyond just the feminist perspective. Kojima said he's going to tackle a lot of taboo subject matter. He's made it clear that race will be a major factor in the game and I'm pretty sure we're going to be seeing slavery and child soldiers as well.

Not that I think Kojima will handle any of this stuff with any tact. As a matter of fact I'm sure it'll be heavy handed and cringe worthy to the core. He couldn't even get the demo out without torture rape and vag-bombs.

I'm also betting that his justification for Quiet will be incredibly stupid.

All that said, I'm glad he's sticking to his guns, even if they're rubber guns that shoot cheese.

@ConanTheStoner:

you say cringe worthy like if that's a bad thing. But Kojima's stories are very out of the ordinary, very quirky, which is why people love it so much. His writing/ideas are the kind that only a Japanese guy with his interests could deliver. It's very unique and hard or maybe impossible to imitate unlike the stories in most if not every American game. You play a game directed by Kojima and you can feel it.

@Jag85: No, not specifically XV. Final Fantasy, and JRPGs in general have males who look like this and have done for a long time. It isn't new, it isn't some reaction to concern for idiot SJWs or female gamers, it's a long time stylistic choice made often by Japanese companies.

Do you know why so many Japanese developers design their male characters to look "bishounen" or "andrygonous"? Because of Japanese female gamers, who make almost 2/3 of the Japanese gaming market (outnumbering male gamers there). For example, characters like Link and Raiden look "androgynous" because the Zelda and MGS creators wanted female gamers to identify with them. Same goes for the FF series. It's not something new, but Japanese developers have been doing this for a long time, without most Western gamers even realizing it.

The difference with FFXV this time is the whole bromance "male intimacy" theme, which is something new for the FF series. The bromance theme is, strangely, quite popular with female audiences, so FFXV will probably still have a large female audience like its predecessors even despite the lack of playable female characters this time around.

Because it is. I have nothing against him handling delicate subject matter, or the themes he chooses to pursue. It's just the ways in which he typically delivers it. It's like asking a middle schooler to give their take on something like genocide or abortion, no matter how well intentioned they may be, it's going to come off terrible lol.

Kojimas a brilliant guy, an amazing designer with some great ideas, he just happens to be a terrible writer. Most of the time it works out and actually adds to the charm of the series. When it falls flat though, it really hits rock bottom.

But Kojima's stories are very out of the ordinary, very quirky, which is why people love it so much. His writing/ideas are the kind that only a Japanese guy with his interests could deliver. Yes, agreed to all of the above. Kojimas stuff is bat shit crazy and (for the most part) I love it. MGS is unique as it gets. Even at his very worst, he still delivers an experience that couldn't be mistaken for anybody elses work.

Great!

That's all really besides the point though. Chances are I'll enjoy almost everything about MGSV, it's just that I know that when he's trying to tackle these "taboo" subjects, I'm going to be feeling 2nd hand embarrassment the whole time haha.

Taking a serious subject, having Kojima write it into one of his over the top stories, and then having it get further mangled in translation is just a recipe for awkward, cringe worthy, disaster level stuff.

"If you had to compare Rumble Roses to anything at all, it would basically be the gaming equivalent to one of those naked lady novelty pens you buy at gas stations as a dumb gag gift. There are certainly ways to make a game titillating without pushing it totally over the line, but Rumble Roses doesn't seem to be aware of this. Plus, when you factor in the unlikable story mode and the fact that it will only take you a few matches to pretty much see everything the game has to offer, it becomes readily apparent that Rumble Roses simply doesn't come together as a particularly appealing product. It's a shame too, because the wrestling and graphical engines the game employs are both decent, but there are just too many aggravating things in the game to have to sift through before you can even begin to truly appreciate either the actual wrestling or the graphics. If nothing else, Rumble Roses is proof that you can make a mechanically sound game, yet still miss the mark." Link

"Hyperdimension Neptunia begins with a promising premise: It personifies each of the major systems in the so-called "console wars," lending each its own personality and powers. But if you're expecting an amusing deconstruction of the video game industry, prepare to be disappointed. Instead, Neptunia's premise is a thin excuse for a role-playing game that revolves around hypersexualized young girls. Thus, key characters amount to little more than disturbing dolls wielding such weapons as a giant syringe. Characters like IF (short for Idea Factory) and Compa (Compile Heart) have their own look, but otherwise, they're almost completely devoid of personality, existing only as depressing stereotypes of vapid, sexy cuteness." - Link

I mean both the games mentioned in the OP are not devoid of criticism.
