OK, here is the cheapest rig I can build with everything included that kicksass against any of the consoles. This system is made of good reliable brands, good components and it comes in at £446, which in comparison to a PS3 here in the UK, £300 for the cheapest model!

This PC has:

  • Dual Core Processor
  • 4 GB of Ram!!
  • 8800GT!
  • 1 Free Game! (Company of Heros with GPU!)

You cannot argue against this PC, I have included everything and the source I have used, if you purchase the components there they build it for you! There are a lot of places that do this and it must be the same in the US!

This PC, will run crysis on high and at a decent resolution above what consoles tend to run at. It will max just about every game out right now and probably will do for the next 18 months!

Yes, it does come in slightly more than PS3s and Xbox 360 BUT THIS AIMED AT ALL THE CONSOLITES THAT CLAIM A DECENT GAMING PC WILL COST $3000!!

I'm going to do some more searching and I bet I can do an even better build in the USA as they have even cheaper components!

So I want to hear some acknowledgement from the consolites that they are wrong when it comes to their perception of how much PC gaming costs!

Seriously guys, follow the links I have provided for you and you will see this is a kickass PC in everyway!

Console fanboys will always exaggerate PC gaming prices, however truth is while a great gaming PC is more expensive, you get what you pay for - as with a console, its hardware doesent even remotely compare to a gaming PC nowdays - thus you get what you pay for.

As for Vista I dont see what the point is, we all have XP and for games it offers better performance, so why not just wait for Vista to find its feet before adopting.

edit* Ah and nice post too :P

Yeh I guess you just need to add another few hundred dollars (or quid in your case) for a monitor and speakers.

Tong in Bradford, but yeah they deliver. They also repair any faulty items you purchase free of charge as long as that component is purchased from there. I found that out when attempting my first go at overclocking!

That doesnt make sense ... we all know the 8800 GT is amazing ... , research solves this problem easily.

I bought a 8800 GTS 640 MB a year and a half ago nearly now ... sitll maxxes every game at 1050P 8x AA except Crysis ... no announced game as of yet for 2008/2009 goes beyond or near Crysis.

thats is quite cheap, but i am a snob and wouldn't touch that pc with a flag pole........sorry :)

i did upgrade my pc for around £500, got a q6600, coolermaster heatsink, asus mother board, 2gb ram, coolmaster case and coolermaster power supply. used my old 8800gts 640mb graphics card, xfi sound card and hard drives. now i can play crysis and flight simulator x on high :)

and bonus my downstair pc connected to my hdtv, has got the bits from my old gaming pc, so its got 2gb ram and an amd 4400x2,

i was going to spend the money on a PS3, but thought f$%k it, i prefer my PC games, so upgrade the PC

Here is a few things that PC fanboys fail to comprehend:

1) That price is not the price to go out and buy a brand new gaming PC. That is the price to upgrade an existing PC. When console fanboys say a gaming PC costs thousands of dollars, they are talking about going to the store and buying a complete unit, just like they would do for a console.

2) You openly admit yourself that not only is that MORE than a console, but it will last roughly 18 months. Then what? A console lasts for roughly 5 years on average.

3) People who are willing to wait for console price drops are able to still jump in and have the exact same gaming experience as someone who waitied in line at launch. They aren't going to be left behind, unlike with PCs.

4) People just like the ease of buying a console and not worrying about it. I know that is why I have always been a console gamer but my PC gaming quickly died off as my PC aged.

5) Meanwhile, people who talk about cheap PCs always do the work to shop around and hunt down obscure stores with cheap prices that the average joe has never heard of. If someone like me who doesn't worship the PC WERE to go out and upgrade...they are going to go to a store and buy the product off the shelf. Which is giong to cost more than all these obscure discount PC part stores.

So basically, what PC fanboys fail to understand is that most people just don't care. You can praise the PC all day, you can act like it is the way of the future and that PC games are practically the borg compared to consoles. Nobody cares. Why? Because for more and more people, it just isn't worth the time and effort to play that one FPS or RTS that will use the maxed out specs.

Meanwhile, you still don't touch on the fact that consoles just offer a more well-rounded gaming experience for all ages and all audiences. Sure, PC gamers will disagree. Nothing is ever superior to the PC! But console gaming is more popular lately and is still growing. Meanwhile, they are slowly closing the gap on PCs much like they did to arcades in the late 90s. That's not to say PC gaming doesn't have its place. that place is just becoming more niche as people stop caring about the constant hassle of PC upgrading and only the hardcore PC fans continue to love the micromanaging.

1) What are you talking about? that clearly shows a full tower, what else do you want? all the consolites are buying is the tower and a controller, so why is it different for a PC? oh so PC Gamers cant have *some outdated" technology yet we dont includes Surround sound speakears and HDTVs apon console purchase?.

2) They LAST 5 years, with no progression in technology .... they becomenoticable more stagnant ... the thrill is gone, left with waiting for sequals.

3) .... left behind with what? some graphic fedelity? Gameplay is still there...

4) Relevant to this topic? or defensive counter-arguements nothing to do with the price of a PC?

5) Whoa ... I didnt realize OEM online retailers were "Obscure" ... only takes 1 question to ask in your country for the best store...

Yes we are all fanboys because we express how you can have this great experiance for cheaper than the dellusion of $2000 that only lasts 6 months are here .

Fanboy? you write essays in every PC thread ... PLEASE.... stop trying so hard.

and with all that, u'll still get games that lag and dont run as perfectly as console games. they my look better, but last time i checked, vista with x10 may produce better visuals, but there's constant frame rate issues (that was only an example). im sorry, but id rather get a system that has been built from the ground up for gaming rather that add parts to my pc. and trust me, a pc that'll have hardware better than a console in every way is much more expensive. at least with my console, there more of a guarntee for it to actually work, rather than a pc.

plus ur argument is very one sided. ur talking about hardware? what about the games themselves. pc's library mainly, (before u u accuse me of saying all, cause that what fanboys do, i said MAINLY, not all) consists of fps's, rts's, mmo's, and western rpgs. sorry, but i like a little flavor in my games rather than the bland library than the pc offers. ill stick to my consoles

1) A PC with Gaming hardware IS built "From the ground up" for gaming ... cmon now ... they dont make those graphics cards for show ... or videos.

2) That PC wont have any troubles with anything BUT Crysis ... even then, itl run about the same as my PC does.

3) 360/PS3 games do NOT run perfect, loads of textre popping, Framerate issues, jaggies. very low end HD .... on most of the popular games.

Gears of War ? Mass Popping Effect, Halo 3 ... and I cant wait to see GTA4.

I get crashes often in games like RAinbow Six Vegas, I have to deal with pathetic P2P services where the host decides to **** off half way through a game, or people drop out, or just generally lags out.

Consoles are far from perfect.

Wrong worng wrong, those are all completely new components, even including keyboard and mouse to match the controller you get with a console. New case, new PSU everything, not an upgrade mate. Trust me, if it was an upgrade, I'd have got the price even further down lol.

2) You openly admit yourself that not only is that MORE than a console, but it will last roughly 18 months. Then what? A console lasts for roughly 5 years on average.

You need to learn to comprehend what I type more. I said "it will max any game out for 18 months!" and it will unless another Crysis level game is brought out. PCs dont suddenly stop working as soon as a slightly better GPU is snnounced. I have a 5 year old PC that still runs Half-Life 2 on max setting but without AA!

3) People who are willing to wait for console price drops are able to still jump in and have the exact same gaming experience as someone who waitied in line at launch. They aren't going to be left behind, unlike with PCs.

You seem to think that to enjoy PC gaming you need to constantly have the very top of the line stuff and as soon as new stuff comes out it cannot be enjoyed. My 8800GTS will still be producing better visuals years from now, right up to the day before the next Playstation is announced. Your point is a mute 1!

4) People just like the ease of buying a console and not worrying about it. I know that is why I have always been a console gamer but my PC gaming quickly died off as my PC aged.

That is fair enough but my thread is not addressing that is it? I'm dispelling the myth that a PC gaming rig required to run Crysis on high settings on a decent monitor costs $3000! Which, obviously it doesnt. You can agree with me in that I have proved my point right? Thats it, nod your head up and down..well done!

Right, so you're point is.....that if you dont research you could end up paying more?....ummm yeah I agree lol

Look mate, I'm not analysing sales numbers or which is more popular! I'm not even trying to convince people to take up PC gaming, I'm simply trying to dispell a myth! Whether it is worth the time and effort is a matter of opinion. Its rather like when the PS3 came out, all those games promised but no one could be bothered to WAIT, no one could be bothered to take the TIME to wait lol. In anycase, PC gaming is doing quite well! Trust me. :P

Why would I touch on that fact when I'm not trying to sell PC gaming. If I was, I would mention the huge game library, game such as Stalker, World In Conflict and Crysis but then I'd get sucked into a battle of opinions. I'm not saying the PC is a better platform, I'm just trying to prove its not as expensive as people say it is! Right?

One little comment about your config. I would put 500W PSU in that setup. 450W should be sufficient, but just to be sure.

And I can build an entirely new gaming rig for 650 bucks that outperforms consoles. Your point being?

Are you insinuating that consoles aren't immune to problems? The PC I've had for three years now hasn't had a single virus, trojan, BSOD, or any thing along those lines. My consoles, however, have had tons of problems. I've gone through three 360s because of RROD, I was having BC problems with my PS3 because it would freeze playing games like SMT:DDS, and its a bloody pain to calibrate my wiimote everytime I want to play.

3) People who are willing to wait for console price drops are able to still jump in and have the exact same gaming experience as someone who waitied in line at launch. They aren't going to be left behind, unlike with PCs.ZIMdoom
"Left behind"? Its funny you use that terminology. My PC is fairly modest, yet it can play the most technologically advanced game currently on the market at relatively high settings better than anything the consoles can provide or will provide this generation. I will not need to upgrade to have graphical fidelity better than consoles.

MISCONCEPTION! There is no "constant hassle of PC upgrading". You can buy a PC now and it will provide graphical fidelity on par with and better than consoles for the duration of the generation. At the end of the generation, you can buy a new PC that is again on par wit h the new consoles. You're thinking too linear. You can use the same kind of upgrade cycles as consoles.

What about WIFI? What about the screen? What about the sound card/speakers? What about a whole bunch of things you forgot to mention?

MOBO has onboard sound, headphones are like 30 bucks, and you don't need wifi. As far the screen goes, include the price of an HDTV with consoles then.

and with all that, u'll still get games that lag and dont run as perfectly as console games. they my look better, but last time i checked, vista with x10 may produce better visuals, but there's constant frame rate issues (that was only an example). im sorry, but id rather get a system that has been built from the ground up for gaming rather that add parts to my pc. and trust me, a pc that'll have hardware better than a console in every way is much more expensive. at least with my console, there more of a guarntee for it to actually work, rather than a pc.

plus ur argument is very one sided. ur talking about hardware? what about the games themselves. pc's library mainly, (before u u accuse me of saying all, cause that what fanboys do, i said MAINLY, not all) consists of fps's, rts's, mmo's, and western rpgs. sorry, but i like a little flavor in my games rather than the bland library than the pc offers. ill stick to my consoles

mrjam0

Copied a Damn_999 post from way back and edited.

The PC has 6 genres represented in it's AAAE games. (4X, Shooter, RTS, MMORPG, Strategy and Racer)

The 360 has 2. (Shooter and Racer)

The PS3 has well.... we all know that one.

The Wii has 3. (Action-Adventure, Platformer and Puzzle)

Combining all consoles genre diversity, the PC still wins 6 to 5.

But what about AAE games?

The PC has 12 genres (Racer, Strategy, RTS, Sport, RPG, Action Adventure, FPS, MMORPG, Flight Sim, Adventure, Submarine Sim, Regular Sims).

The 360 has 6 genres (Sport, Racer, Fighter, RPG, Action Adventure, Flight).

The PS3 has 2 genres (Action Adventure, Shooter)

The Wii has 4 genres (Shooter, Puzzle, Adventure and RPG)

No console has the same amount of genre diversity in its exclusives. Combined, they still don't (since you cancel out overlapping consoles genres).

The PC wins 12 to 10.

PWNT!

This PC, will run crysis on high and at a decent resolution above what consoles tend to run at.

DAZZER7
Like hell it will. I have a better PC than that (C2D 2.67, 8800GT, Vista x64), and Crysis doesn't run on high at 1280x1024 without SERIOUS framerate issues. It's fine on medium, but choppy on high, especially when the post-processing kicks up (after an explosion, for instance).

Its the system itself, how you pay for the Audio/Visual outputs is up to you, just like when you buy a console ...

If you want me to add a wifi card its not really going to change the price much.

The motherboard has 8-channel on board sound!

Speakers, do you get speakers with your console?

Do you get a monitor, TV or HDTV with your console?

No. But I can plug my console to any TV that has speakers. Cannot do that with a PC. Thus why you must include that in the price.

Well my actual system is C2D E6600 2.4 Ghz and an 8800GTS 320mb and I run Crysis on high with occasional hick ups, but since the patch, since the latest Nvidia drivers and by tweeking a few of the advanced settings, I've got it pretty smooth. However, I am running it on XP with makes a bit of difference.

lol, anything you plug a console into you can plug a PC into. You can get a DVI to S-video cable or AV cable stuff like that and I'm pretty sure they come with the graphics card.

ZIMdoom

your own lazyness doesnt make pc gaming bad. it makes you bad.
