[QUOTE="tocool340"][QUOTE="Dilrod"]I tried the game. Like I said, its not bad. Its a visually pretty game. Im not too into fighters, so I am trying not to let that influence my thoughts on the game. Soul Calibur on the DC was and still is my favorite fighting game. It just isnt the end all be all fighter that sheeps make it out to be. i_Pwn_TheVuhJay

:| I have one question, do you think Soul Caliber is a button masher? The answer better be yes because even a 5 year old can beat a pro by simply button mashing and using the same attack again and again. Super Smash bros however requires far more than just pressing the same button over and over again. And button mashing can't even help against a experience brawler. Either you haven't played the game yourself, or just plain suck at the game...

one word.....Kilik....so so cheap

Hahaha so true. Sometimes even after you finish pushing buttons, he gives a few attacks.

Like I said, I didnt see him start the game so I dont know what he selected. Based on what my gf told me, he selected normal and thats what he plays on. When we were fighting he said he selected level 9's to show me how hard they were. He beat them and thats all I know.

Dilrod

Okay well he lied to you.

So then what was he doing. I dont think he intentionally lied to me. I just think maybe he doesnt understand what he was actually doing. I still feel that after playing it, it is alot of button mashing.

He could be playing Level 1 CPU's for all you know, unless you saw him set the level to 9. Maybe he did it on accident or maybe he wanted to impress you. Who knows. All I know is that you cannot beat 3 level 9's by button mashing.

Also, fight someone who is GOOD before saying if it's a button masher. I'm far from a pro but I'm pretty good and if you button mashed against me I would kill you.

[QUOTE="Dilrod"]I played it last night, and its too much of a button masher for me. When I see a 7 year old beating the game solo like its nothing and all he is doing is jumping around pressing buttons that takes away from the game for me. I will say it is one of the prettier wii games though.Dilrod

Are there a lot of times you find yourself gaming with 7 year olds?

I mean since you were there did you remember what level he was playing? What mode?

Considering my gf has a 7 year old, yeah there are time I find myself playing games with him. Im not sure what mode but the game just didnt seem to demanding of any real talent. He just kept hitting the buttons over and over, and when I played, so did I. Im not bashing the wii, Im not even into fighting games, its just I dont see what all the hype is about this game.

maybe it's time you stop ragging on 7 year olds. fact is 99% of the media in the US is directed to people with his/her comprehension level. wrestling is the most popular sport amongs adults and children in the US.. and last I checked your average video game isn't complicated enough to be above a 7 year olds skills. some of the best GH players are under 10.

live with it. just because you game as an adult it doesn't mean you're not doing something designed for children to be able to play and excel at. get yourself off the freaking pedestal man, lol.

stop being an ageist!!!!1!

all that aside button mashing will get you nowhere in SSBB. accidental combinations of buttons could send your avatar flying off the screen in different directions.. a no-no in this game. if anything it's designed against button mashing.

you insinuated it was a button masher because a 7 year old could do well. it was your qualification - i have no problems reading :P if that isn't an insult to 7 year olds i dunno what is.

Refresh my memory, but wasn't Maxi in the first one? I got Soul Caliber 2 on my GC and when I was playing against my 2 little brothers, one choosed Maxi and simply destroyed me in one game. Yes destroyed. He was pressing any thing and some how was able to unleash a barrage of combo's on me, but didn't even know how he did it, since after that, I crushed him with Link....

Trust me it really doesn't

well it got old for me. though when you got friends over its allways fun. but against the computer its like playing chessmaster 7000

yes i have raised their settings to 9

Go to smashboards.com

Use the Friend Finder

You can now have 1 on 1's with anyone in the country with ease.

There you go.

speaking of this ....it bothers me that this game has no Matchmaking like COD4 or Halo3 ect.....it would make this game soooo much better....the whole code thing is whack

True, but luckily the community was able to come up with a good matchmaking service for the super smash bros brawl.

Looks liek neither of you played this game... It DOES have matchmaking, in fact you can watch other people's matches via spectator mode and have basic or team matches, plus you can have another friend or two with you on the same Wii when you're playing online.

Kilik was incredibly cheap - but he was also incredibly easy to beat if you knew the game and the chars ;) he was basically a one trick pony against new players.

now Raphael.... he IS cheap. cheap no matter how long you've played the game.. i can roll kilik with him like fresh dough on the counter :P

Yes I have played it. Prove to me Im lying. Thats right you can't. I love how I state my opinion about a game, and all the sheep go crazy and want to bash me. Heaven forbid its not a shared opinion with you guys. I think some people need to get off their pedastools.

Edit: Its spelled LIAR btw.

i don't need proof course YOU already did !

the only thing you can do is too proof your own lie by playing against lvl 9 cpu's and come back

and than maybe say something like OH SORRY YOU GUYS WHERE RIGHT , IT NO BUTTON MASHER !

but i know you dont want too prove that by your own:)

funny how this guy bashes SSBB for being a button masher, and then claims that SOUL CALIBER (the button mash KING) is his favourite fighting game

smash bros is far from a button masher. it takes timing and skill to beat competitive players. a beginner literally has no chance against a player who knows what he's doing if items are turned off. can't say the same for soul caliber, where an experienced player can get beat on occasion against a player who button mashes randomly.

try knowing what you are talking about before posting. it helps.

glad you like it, i found it to be a vast improvement to, leaves me wondering what nintendo plans for an encore.

although you probably shoulden't limit yourself to just those games, theres a 90% chance at least 2 or 3 things out now or coming in the systems life might interest you

SMG(amazing)

redsteel (booooooo :( )

super paper mario (boring...couldn't help but wish it was more of an RPG)

I nver claimed Soul Calibur wasnt a button masher, I only said it was my favorite fighting game. Maybe you should take your own advise and try knowing what you are talking about before posting. @fishfake, you need to re-read my posts. I never claimed I played against level 9's. Please stop trying to argue with me over the internet. And again, prove to me that Im lying and I havent played it. You cant so you can stop with trying to call me out. I don't own the wii, it is my girlfriends sons. Maybe next time Im over there I will take a picture of it on the tv. How would that be for proof?

Lol, you call that monstrosity matchmaking? 2 min matches, all items on, random people whose names you cant see. Definately Grade A matchmaking material right there. The only way you can have any fun online is through friend codes with your friends.

Luckily, that's where the friend finder comes in. It pretty much gives you ZERO reason to ever do the normal "matchmaking" ever again. It helps in the organization of online tournaments, lets you find people to play with competively for fun (with your rules let me add), and just gives the game more longevity that it already had.

Seriously, to call the built-in way matchmaking...lol...

Did I bash the game? No. I said it was too much of a button masher for me. Just stating an opinion, I never claimed fact. I nver claimed Soul Calibur wasnt a button masher, I only said it was my favorite fighting game. Maybe you should take your own advise and try knowing what you are talking about before posting. It helps.

Dilrod

instead of judging the game by watching a 7 year old play for a couple of hours, try playing some competitive matches against decent smash bros players first. then you might give us the impression that you have somewhat of an idea of what you're talking about.

I like the Wiimote + nunchuck option just as much as the Gamecube controller.

The Wiimote on its own however is pretty awkward.

I see,so it does have motion sensing implemented? Also,is it hard finding a match?I heard from some friends that it's very hard finding a match using matchmaking and that some games are completely laggy and others are fine...O.O I can't wait for it to get here.

Saying Brawl is a button masher isn't an opinion, it's just false.

I played it last night, and its too much of a button masher for me. When I see a 7 year old beating the game solo like its nothing and all he is doing is jumping around pressing buttons that takes away from the game for me. I will say it is one of the prettier wii games though.Dilrod

yea ive been going to my friends house to play some brawl with him. Its an ok game, but it really doesnt take much strategy or skill. Once you learn a character's special moves, etc, you simplyhit the other guys as much as possible until you knock them off the map... I get bored and start losing focus after the 10th or so match in a row

glad you like it, i found it to be a vast improvement to, leaves me wondering what nintendo plans for an encore.

although you probably shoulden't limit yourself to just those games, theres a 90% chance at least 2 or 3 things out now or coming in the systems life might interest you

Willy105

yea probably...its just that i own a ps3 and a 360 also...and the games for those systems compel me to buy them so much more than a wii game generally

so far ive owned/own

wii sports(broken disc :( )

zelda(good game...liked wind waker more tho)

SMG(amazing)

redsteel (booooooo :( )

super paper mario (boring...couldn't help but wish it was more of an RPG)

the only game i might get in the future is MK....but chances are slim... im a lil interested in that spider scorpion game tho( forget its name)

Super Paper Mario is boring!?! The story was great and hilarious! But yeah, I also wish it was an RPG.

i agree that it was funny as hell...and the beggining of the game was REALLY fun...but as it went on it just got very meh im definitly not trying to discredit it at all...it was very inventive....just not as compelling as i hoped it to be....paper mario 2 pwns super paper mario

And I could easily say that people who have the opinion that SSBB is a great game are wrong too and there opinion sucks. Do you see me doing that? No. Your point? Thats right, you have none other than you can't accept the fact that this is not the best fighting game to everyone. Your reply was nothing but a fanboyish response because someone didnt like the game as much as you. Quit letting an opinion upset you. But just because I have an opinion, does not give you the right to ridicule or any other sheep to respond they way they have. I actually thought sheep were the "lesser of evil" when it comes to fanboys, but I see that is not the case.

This topic is full of lulz.

Button mashing (as in randomly mashing your movement and attack buttons and shield buttons like a monkey on acid) will get you nothing in smash bros except for suicide deaths. Even worse if you're playing computer opponents... especially level 9's.

Holy crap the big maze at the end is tedious as hell. I've still got like 20% remaining in the subspace emissary.

Agreed. My little brothers tried that bull on me. And wasn't even a challenge unlike soul caliber or Tekken. I actually don't live with my 2 little brothers since they live with my mom in Kansas and I'm here in Chicago so they never played Brawl. But in Melee, it took more effort explaining to them how they should try and get back on the lvl. Usually, they would continue to forget how to get back on and just fall to their deaths. But no matter how many buttons they tried to use to defeat me, all I did was side step, roll, smash attack, jump back shoot a arrow(I choosed Link as my main in ALL Smash game), wait until they attack, guard, roll then finish the job. Button mash they could try, succeed they will not. Probably a 5% chance they could probably take one of my lives button mashing. And thats REAL slim....

Brawl isn't a button-masher so much as it's an exercise in controlled chaos. If you don't play with items on at all, then yes, skill rules 100%. However, if you throw items into the mix, the game doesn't favor skilled players quite as much, which is probably where people get the idea that the game takes no skill.

For example, I tend to play matches at 2.0 damage, because I don't take the game very seriously, and thus simply want to blast people off the screen as quickly as possible. The other side of the coin, however, is that the slightest tap from another player (or getting hit by half the items in the game) will send you spinning out of control. If you play the game on 2.0, it's easy to think that the game is completely random, and without too much skill to it. Perhaps that's why diehard Smash Bros. fans argue it's the best fighter ever (I'd choose SF Alpha 3): The game can be as skilled or as chaotic as you want.
