All I can say is wow. The last act is like a constant finale. Everything that is cinematic in this game is done so perfectly, it's hard to describe. I won't go in to detail because I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but if you own a ps3 and haven't played this game yet, you really need to. You don't really need the other games for this one, I only played MGS3 and understood everything just fine.

This shouldn't be a spolier but regardless of all the emotional cinematics and the end, my high point of the game was at the end when you fight liquid on top of the haven, and the MGS3 theme song comes on. It was just awesome. I've never experienced that kind of feeling before. Honestly, I'm a hermit, but this game kill and destroys Half-Life like a little bug. That's all I have to say on that, if it was up to me this game would have an 11/10 because it's more than a game. It's a game, movie, and a book. As far as GOTY goes, I think this should win.

You've got to understand though, I'm a PC guy. I've got a beefy rig, and I can't wait for L4D. But this game really shined through for me, nothing else comes close for me.

great game, but the balance between gameplay and cut-scene wasn't quite right

i felt like there was too little gameplay overall

MGS1-3 had the right balance, but this didn't for me

You know what was done very simply but the effect was amazing? The splitscreen parts of the game. I remember playing one certain boss battle over again just so I could see what was happening on the other screen...bad ass! those scenes were freaking amazing! And I think the part in the game where the graphics were like "WOW :o" was in
The Microwave room...it was so sad that part with Jacki Presti's "Love Theme" playing in the bacground :(
No need for agressive comments. It is a known fact that MGS4 is 50% cutscenes (or even more depending on the player's style and ability).

But considering how well produced these cutscenes are and how many people are playing the game first and foremost for its story, it is actualy a plus.

On Topic: Congrats TC for experiencing quite possibly the most amazing game ever made ;)

It is an awesome game, but some little details on the story were SO lame:

- Naomi: "Hey, I forgot to tell you, I have cancer, and I will deactivate the nanomachines and kill myself just after I got hopes of a nice life with Otacon"

No. Just no.  Next lame moment:

- Big Boss alive... >_> Liguid being "good" all this time..., do we have another cliché?

And Meryl merring Johny... No way.

Despite those little lame moments, it is still a great game.

It's more like 20% cutscenes to be honest. The amount that are in the game are grossly exaggerated by fanboys. On the first playthrough you can easily get 15 hours of gameplay out of it. Combine that with give or take 5 hours of cutscenes and it's a pretty fine package.

TC took the trouble to put a spoiler-free first post and you just had to post this. and no liquid wasn't good, i think you meant ocelot.

It is a great game, however like I always say. MGS4 ruined ocelot. After playing MGS3, I was expected a better story, and gameplay. I prefered it's survival gameplay, and the ocelot still had his cool factor.

Hey, it's been known for a long time MGS games have their share of silly moments, and many of them are part of the humor anyway.

I'm not seeing the problem with his post, he said it's a great game and there's nothing wrong in putting other MGS game's greatness before this one.

You know its a good game when you don't know whether to root for the hero or the villian. The characters were so developed that you became attached to all of them.

@ IronBass - you seem to be missing A LOT of story and character background.

Not gonna start explaining the intricacies of MGS's plot and the reasons behing character's actions (like Naomi or Ocelot) to you, but you might wanna dig deeper before bashing some aspects of the plot that are obviously unknown to you.

Of course, then there's the famous Meryl & Johny story which you either lovet it or hate it, i guess it's very subjective and opinion based. I for one love the game's charm and unique sense of humour

I know them, and I know them well. But that doesn't change that 1) Old dead characters being alive and 2) Bad guys that were actually good - are two of the most common chlichès in Sci Fi history.

And I was not "bashing" it, I just commented what I didn't like of the game, also saying that those were small details that didn't affect at all the overall experience.

I had to beat Liquid in 6.5 minutes to get the Big Boss Emblem! You can just imagine the frustration but it was great. I beat it in 4:59:15, just under the 5 hour mark needed lol.

Great !! that you liked TC yeah its the most amazing game i've played in my entire life, its just breathtaking and made me cry,

as an MGS FAN it was the perfect ending and the perfect MGS game to end the story of the legendary soldier

The first time i beat the game it took me  23 hours 06 minutes and 23 seconds and of those 23 hours 10 there are 10 hours of cutscenes so that leaves 13 hours of gameplay that i think its a great time of a godly single player campaign.

DONT LISEN TO THOSE FANBOYS THAT SAYS THE GAME ITS FULL OF CUTSCENES BUY THE GAME !! AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF !!

This is for the PS3 owners !!! read Thiss !!

there are 14 million of PS3 in the world and only 4 million of MGS4's has been sold ??? please PS3 owners support the game buy MORE !!! its the best and you wont regret it !! buy it buy buy buy buy THE GAME !!! SUPPORT KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS !

oh yeah that final act. takes 2 mins to get to the boss, beat him then watch a lengthy cutscene about teh johhny and that chick. while snake runs through about 30 same looking rooms. once you are through, you watch another cutscene then you must button mash and drag snake out of teh heat. aniother custcene begins.....after that beat the last boss and tada act 5 ended, now grab your popcorns and watch the 2 hour ending.

i cant believe this, honestly i have had very little interest in MGS even when i had a PS2 it didn't warrant my attention. But the poster on the first page here said that there are 5 hours worth of cutscenes, thats just completely unacceptable to me, i have to say anyone who plays and enjoys this game, must be a sony or MGS fanboy. Likewise any other game with that many cutscenes, never mind a 2hour ending (for god sake thats just a joke) i would not be interested. I love games but there is no game in the world that i would spend 7 hours of watching its cut scenes.

this game was enjoyable but there was very little gameplay compared to cutscenes.

I really wish people would use spoiler tags. Granted I've already played the game, some people havent and are banking on getting it for Christmas and what not. And I would call telling how the last boss fight goes a spoiler.

Cool. Now maybe you can restart time and join the rest of us in the present. Although given how chiily it's been lately I could use a bit of June right now.

Seriously though. MGS 4 was great, I'm glad you liked it. I remember when I finished it. For some reason I was so exausted I couldn't play any other games for about a week..It was weird.

I still think on a techincal level, no game out there touches it. It was superbly designed. I was really impressed.

But this game really shined through for me, nothing else comes close for me.

fatzebra

If you read IGN review about the game, they did say that they would've given it an 11 if it was possible! But unfortunately, 10/10 is what the final score was. :( Anyway, I have to agree, MGS4 PWNS!

oh yeah that final act. takes 2 mins to get to the boss, beat him then watch a lengthy cutscene about teh johhny and that chick. while snake runs through about 30 same looking rooms. once you are through, you watch another cutscene then you must button mash and drag snake out of teh heat. aniother custcene begins.....after that beat the last boss and tada act 5 ended, now grab your popcorns and watch the 2 hour ending.

i cant believe this, honestly i have had very little interest in MGS even when i had a PS2 it didn't warrant my attention.

Isn't there more gameplay then in Gears or Halo's sp? I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's easily one of the greatest games ever made, and for us fans of the series, the peoiple that grew up with the series it was a real treat.

IronBass

Well liquid was always good from the start but just the way he went about doing things is the reason he was the bad guy.

Well there are a lot of cutscenes but if you played 1-3 you would enjoy every moment of MGS4

no, you wouldn't necessarily. i hate it when people make sweeping statements like that.

i like MGS1, hated most of the others but played them all. friends are the same, some of my most hardcore mgs fan friends didn't even want to finish MGS4...

Are you sure? It took me about 22 hours to complete MGS4 I'd say about half were cutscenes, that leaves a solid 10/11 hours of gameplay, isn't gears sp like 8 hours long? Wasn't gears 1 like 6 hours long?

You must've been mentally burnt out. I felt that way after completing SOTC. :P

I wonder what MGS5 will be about. I want MGS5 to deal with the Bosses exploits prior to MGS3 and so we can learn about her relationship with Snake. Or even go further than that and bring us back to the days she was pregnant with Ocelot and the Sorrow was still alive! :o

Whats a good name for such an MGS?

MGS5: Genesis?

MGS5: Sins of The Mother?

MGS5: Cobra Unit?

MGS5: Birth of the Patriot?

MGS5: Birth of the Boss?

Im just throwing those out there! :D

it was a great game and i enjoyed every bit of it. at times i stayed up late just to try to finisht the the thing. when I was done with the game i went right back to playing call of duty 4. I wisht the replay value would be better, or it would let you keep all the guns when you started over.

i'd rather see Kojima put all his efforts in to new IPs. MGS should end with 4, but they'll likely milk it for a while longer like they're doing with Halo too.

Best ending in a videogame EVER. I cant think if a game that has a better ending in terms of how you actualy play it, how its presented, and how the story wraps up.

It all depends on your play style. People have beat MGS 4 in 2 and a half hours.

That's exactly it. Playing MGS 4 and reading the MGS database afterward was a real trip. It made appreciate the series a bit more than I did. I'm playing MGS Portable OPs now because of what I read and how it connects to MGS 4..
