If you can read Japanese, you can check out the full (really interesting) report here. Translation provided by GAF.

Fire Emblem: Awakening sold 1.04 million units worldwide. This makes it the first million seller in the Fire Emblem series, and it also makes it one of the highest selling 3DS games.

Also, it looks like the market made the right decision for a change!

Sequel incoming fast, do you think?

nice! It deserves every one of those sales.

and to think Nintendo was going to kill it..

While FE has always been a niche franchise, Awakening really put it on the map; I'm expecting much better sales from the series from here on out.

On the one hand, it's good to see one of my favorite series finally get those sales. Too bad I think FE:A is the weakest in the series by far with easy difficulty, average story, exploitative mechanics and lessening of what made Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem with offering a choice with Pernament Death.

That took a long time, but at least it's good enough for them to make more Fire Emblem games. Though they need to return to more political matters in terms of story.

Best 3DS game of the year.

Don't understand how Zelda beat it, but hey the game is getting good enough sales so the Series doesn't have to die!

Nice.

I want to see a Sony/MS knock-off preferably with feet, higher PV and dumbed down game mechanics.

They're not going to, the older fire emblem didn't appeal to that many people. I loved the older ones but i understand people don't like games that challenge you that way having to repeat things for making mistakes and a political warfare story is to put some people to sleep. I personally love it, the warfare and strategy used are interesting but people aren't generally into that type of story even less gameplay that punishes you forcing you to restart + that story line. We can consider the older fire emblems gone for good, the new one offer you an insane advantage over the enemy and it rolls with an anime like story line full of a lot of things not explained but just to drive the plot no one will complain.

Yea I dont think the story of the previous games were the problem to reaching out to more people. It has much more to do with the gameplay. One of the things being permanent death. One of the reasons I stood away thats for sure.Though I dont know why they cant have it both ways. basicly two different modes. I mean isint that what they sorta did with this one.I didint find nothing wrong with this plot and the only real question I had was what happend to the future kids.

I think yeah, they're going to build upon Awakening and start bringing things back. I expect them to bring back fog of war with the next installment, for example.

I also fully expect them to keep the Casual Mode without permadeath, however.

Awakening dropped a lot of other stuff that was in the older games than just perma death though (which is still available in game)

Agreed

I never got into the Fire Emblem series until Path of Radiance for the Gamecube.

And IMO, it totally shit on FF:Tactics as the best strategy RPG that I've ever played.

Awakening was above and beyond. The kind of game I could consider myself revisiting 20+ years down the line and still having a ball.

Yeah the thing is they already created a solid balance for that with casual mode. Or at the least how about we start unlocking hard from the get go, and in hard it has stuff like fog of war, and a lot of the stuff that made Fire Emblem more satisfying to play. Don't get me wrong cutting the teeth off the game wasn't the only drawback(I also absolutely disliked the lack of variety with the mission designs), but it seemed like a silly compromise considering they had such an excellent answer to find a good balance.

Plus in general it always felt like Fire Emblem Awakening had a better marketing campaign than Radient Dawn and Shadow Dragon did. Matter of fact Shadow Dragon felt like it stealth launched.

I'm so glad. Did you guys read the article that said if Awakening didn't sell 250k units, Fire Emblem would be done for good? I'm so pissed off.

Awakening was good, but the lack of varied mission objectives stunk. Also, recruiting units is too easy.

Again that's fine, I have no problem with a game becoming accessible. A lot of my favorite games are accessible(Bayonetta for instance, has an idiot friendly difficulty), but Awakening for as good as it was a little compromised against the likes of a Valkyria Chronicles(probably my favorite game in that genre), or a Tactics Ogre, and frankly I'd rather play FF: Tactics.

At the least I am interested to see how they tackle Advance Wars for the 3DS. The last Advance Wars they made was...was Battalion Wars territory.

That´s pretty unimpressive for a game that has been out for almost two years in the market, especially considering it´s one of the very best and apparently most "popular" games on the 3DS.

And being niche or not isn´t really an excuse, tons of indie games these days sell that in a lot less time and most of them are really niche genres.

So yeah,I guess selling 1M copies is great and all but when you put things into perspective it looks a lot less impressive tbh.

It released this year, bro. And it's pretty darn impressive considering it was a mid budget game in a series that has never once broken a million, and that the games are by nature intimidating and yes, niche. I don't know why you want to take away from what is undoubtedly a great achievement, especially since the game was profitable just weeks after release. And it being popular? It's popular on gaming forums and boards. The average 3DS owner doesn't know what the **** it is.

Yeah, options are always great. And yep, hopefully, they return to the complexity the previous games apparently had.

Advance Wars, you mean Day of Ruin? Bro, mechanically, that was the most sound Advance Wars game, it wasn't broken like Dual Strike was, and it was balanced really well. Yeah, it cut out some unit and map variety, but it gained a lot of tactical depth in the process.

Now if you mean the tone sucked, and they should go back to the tone of the previous games in the series, then yes, I'm right there with you.

I remember playing half way through Day of Ruin and going "This is bullshit, I'm going back to Dual Strike'. And I watched some Pootie Tang and played some Dual Strike. **** Day of Ruin. That game is probably not "I went back to the predecessor" bad, but man was I not feeling that game. Plus most of gaf gave me the impression I wasn't the crazy person, it was just the game became worse.

So yeah I'm hoping for Advance Wars to be hype again. Especially since they will never make Advance Wars on the WiiU done right; even though easily could since nothing about is inherently better because it's on a handheld, as much as it's just a really well made game.

Time's been kind to Day of Ruin, lol. But yeah, I get you, Day of Ruin's tone and aesthetic and just everything about it did put me off of playing it for a very long time too. So yeah, I hope the next Advance Wars goes back to the first three games instead.

And they should be able to get Advance Wars on the Wii U done right, especially now that the Wii U has two screens and a touch screen, they really have no excuse. Watch them not do it though.

Zelda on ....oh right Wind Waker.

I started it, was going to ask how it stacks overall against the other Pikmin games, so far between it and Wonderful101, love 101 way more. That game's controls could be a little bit better, but man that games bat shit insaneness is dope.

Of course you're gonna like Wonderful 101 more, have you ever not liked anything Kamiya's done? :P

I hear Pikmin 3's more like Pikmin 1 instead of Pikmin 2- I liked 2 more than 1, but I don't know how many of 2's mechanics they retained, and how the new introductions stack up or anything.

I played 1, never played 2. But it's been so long, that my only real reaction has been this is still Pikmin, but I can't tell if anything is different or not. Were they always so chatty to start the game? The opening stretch of that game is just like "oh no no no Gagan, we're going to go through every little thing my son"....shit was overkill. Game loosened up and I went juice making. Cole Train would be jelly.

But yeah I love me some Kamiya, Platinum in general. They haven't come close to being as good as Bayonetta with their other stuff, but Vanquish, Revengeance, fun stuff. Even Anarchy Reigns is pretty neat for an experimental online game from them. Shame that game has a repetitive ass SP(should have also kept the art design from Madworld, because man that game is ugly), and the game was too chaotic to ever keep an audience.

Bayonetta 2 not being by spring of next year is disappointing. I was hoping it would be an early 2014 game, and not mid/late potential 2015 game.
