Im starting to think this game is going to flop with critics and audiences.

[QUOTE="TheEroica"]I'm saving my money for a better RPG, namely Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 2 isn't the "better RPG". Both games will be good games. I myself am getting the FFXIII. :DThey lost me at "chocobo living in characters afro". Sorry, but until japan decides to tell an actual story worthy of my money, I'll pass.

god I hope not, the last great FF was released 8 years ago.. I'm not willing to wait 4 more years for the real quality RPG :(Im starting to think this game is going to flop with critics and audiences.

Ouch.
I was going to buy this game until reading about it on these forums. Sounds like they dropped the ball.

Well written adventure book or poorly written novel?! It depends on the game.
[QUOTE="BattleTurtles"][QUOTE="Wings_008"]some Japnaese Magazene gave it 39/40 so it's not that bad...LethalhazardFamitsu gave FFXII a 40/40. And that game was bad to say the least. That game was brilliant. Some people just found it too hard or boring. The others who said it had a bad story couldn't keep up with the storyline or hate political intrigue... Nope, those who liked the story like shallow junk anime stories, dont kid yourself. I bet you think the Gundams have amazing story cuz they got lots of politics.

Sorry, JRPG = reading a book, WRPG = writing a book. Sorry I should also elaborate in that JRPG's always tell stories the same way, never changing it. JRPG stories havnt been anything special for a long time. No evolution in the way they are told or anything.

I remember reading comments hating it for the Shakespearean style of its writing. Try beating it sometime.

Optional story progression through dialogue has been available for a very long time.
There is so much hype and so many expectations surrounding this franchise that I find most reviews invaild no matter what. I need to get my hands on this period. I don't trust the Japanese Amazon trolls, or these early reviews. From what I myslef have seen, I am impressed.
This game will probably need to be digested before a proper review, I am wondering how many opinions will change five years from now looking back on this game. For example, I never thought Final Fantasy IX was all that great, and I replayed it last summer. I now can appreciate that story and cast of characters more so than I did before.
Keep posting all these review and impression threads, I will keep on anticipating the realease :)
This is EXACTLY what happened to me with XII. I hated it since it was released -- that is, until I picked it up last weekend again. It sounds like the "book" this time is rather anime-esque, not very engrossing or deep.
Compare this to the Square of 10 years ago making Xenogears: a plot that is so deep it's hard to follow. Such a difference 10 years makes.
Yeah that's a bit true. I still want to wait for the English version because I didn't understand EVERYTHING in Japanese -- seeing as I had someone translating for me a bit.It sounds like the "book" this time is rather anime-esque, not very engrossing or deep.

That's weird, FFXII was one of my favorite in the series :| Not to mention most gaming websites loved the new direction in gameplay.
In FFXIII's case... it's simple. They ran out of money. They couldn't do everything they wanted with the game because well... it's too much money. You can't really blame 360 for its limitations (although it could be partially considered), it's more so Sony, for not selling enough consoles to solidify its exclusivity.
Not to be a Sony Fanboy, but let's see how FFvXIII does. If there's a huge technical jump between that game and XIII, then you know 360's limitations were considered in developement.
I think im finally starting to see what hakumono's being saying all along. The FF fanbase truly are the worst.
It pains me to see people destroy FF13 and complain about things that were greatly highlighted in FF12. Just that would be fine, but then you have to remember just how badly FF12 is trashed (IMO the worst of all games). This also proves what ive been saying for a while which is you should NEVER listen to the fanbase, because they dont know what they want. FF13 is squares answer to fans complaint, but apparently its not what they want.
Im not saying this in regards to the review but more so the general scope of whats been said on 13. Regardless of all that everything ive seen of the game so far is exactly what i want. Absoloutely cannot wait.

Tied with the LoZ fanbase IMO. But yeah, I agree with everything you just said. Even when thye cater to the fans, people will still find reason to complain. Now I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan of FFXII either (had more to do with Characters/Story since I liked the exploration and gameplay) so I'll admit it be hypocritical to bash FFXIII for treading old grounds after complaining about FFXII for changing too much.
I'm trying to read the review, but for some reasom the website isn't working.
But yeah, if the game being linear is the major problem, then I don't see the big deal. So far reading various forums, it's just fans complaining about the linear nature of the game, lack of towns and some BS about the story. Considering I'm not even buying the game for the story, it's all good.
Believe it or not, people not in Japan know Japanese.so this ppl know japanese? i'll just wait for IGN and GS review the game from the english version when they actually understand what are they doing..
