I loved what I saw but again my expectations were piss poor writing and VO. The textures looked fine for my purposes, the combat looked great, the art direction is pretty cool and the humans actually looked human! The UI isn't an issue because someone is going to fix it within the first week.
Haha, thanks, *brofists*.[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]

Digging The Arcanum Avatar Showzer.

Never knew about this game until someone suggested it to me earlier this month.
I'm on my second playtrough now, it's incredible.
We need more Steampunk RPG's.
This 100 times. Hopefully Dishonoured is actually an RPG.
This is probably completely BS but I read a rumor that says the reason Tim Cain joined Obsidian was a Arcanum sequel. That would be a pretty obvious purchase for me if they don't completely bork it.
[QUOTE="rumbalumba"][QUOTE="LightLink66"]The Elder Scrolls games suck. Don't see why anyone would like an open world RPG with class customization and the freedom to do anything you want.princeofshapeir
story isn't that great. it's good, but not great. animations suck and are very stiff. controls are clunky. it has little to no guidance at all. game has no direction whatsoever. it is boring. also, it is buggy as hell. you must wait atl east 6 weeks for Bethesda to patch whatever crap they have to patch. people always hype up these games that run like crap. GOTY for bring 15 fps? get out. textures aren't that great either.
everything after your quip about the animations makes it sound like you're the one playing thisBethesda pride themselves for storytelling, but bleh. words and dialogue can only do so much. voice acting sucks, even the facial animations suck. a girl who's supposed to be crying looks like she's having face spasms or something. people never learn. why cant Bethesda employ a LA Noire even at least an Uncharted-quality in facial animations and animations in general? no one is stopping them. and the NPCs sound like robots. hooray for storytelling.
[QUOTE="-Unreal-"]Yeah,it's not like they enjoy the games. A game doesn't need to be great for people to get enjoyment from it.Graphics look garbage. Voice acting looks crap as do the animations. But it has the ES name slapped on it, so people will think it's great.

Yeah, their writers are awful at Bethesda. They couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.
Graphics look like they have potential, but thanks to the console version we're watching, it looks like crap.
Gotta love those pauses on the saving system too.
Fallout 3 had crappy voice acting as well, Bethesda are no Bioware that's for sure.
Bioware has good writers :|? Gaider is pretty much the only one who can write decently and even then his writing feels way too inconsistent nowadays.

Fallout 3 had pretty decent voice acting. Lots of big names in there too.I loved what I saw but again my expectations were piss poor writing and VO. Yeah I heard.I have my fingers crossed.
Obsidian would make a stellar Arcanum Sequel going by Avellone's Writing and Cain's Ambitious gameplay ideas.
..but the game would probably get a 7/10 for outdated graphics and bugs,it's only forgivable when Bethesda releases buggy games right?

"How are you?"
"I've been better. You?"
"I've been better."
"I hope things get better"
"See you"
I am not going to watch the video but i don't really give a **** about anything like voice acting or animations as long as the core gameplay is fun and the world is immersing.
[deleted]
combat is boring as heck. how can you be immersed when everytime you swing the sword, it feels like you're just slicing the air? enemies don't even react, only when they die do they give out a reaction. in Uncharted and God Of War enemies react to everything, even in Link To The Past the enemies flinch. in Skyrim you slice them, a "slice" of blood appears on screen, and you keep spamming the button until they die. and i don't know why Bethesda can't even do the simplest of things. the simplest of animations can go further than any LOTR-esque made-up words in terms of immersion.
Wow awesome. I cant wait till 11/11/11......
the voice acting wasnt all that bad guys. If you want bad voice and bad dialogue play star ocean the last hope.
But Skyrim looks so epic and awesome
GOTY confirmed.
I just really hope that this time around critics don't look past all of the game's shortcomings, like they did with Oblivion.
I mean, it got a 9.6 here...what?
dommeus
Once a game has enough hype most critics get blinded by the short comings. See Vanquish, Dark Souls, Oblivion, SMG, MK Wii and Resistance 2 for more details.

I was never implying they had good writers, Hell Mac Walters ruined ME2's main plot.
They can certainly do good voice acting though.
That's...true. I've never seen a ME2 fan acknowledge that. ME2 had pretty good interesting isolated character stories, But the poor writing of the main plot ruined it for me.Wow awesome. I cant wait till 11/11/11......

like that game is native in English. it was localized. Skyrim isn't. this is the bread and butter, the original, not a localized, or sabotaged version.

There are plenty of games that arent native english and have good english voice acting, so your argument isnt that strong.[QUOTE="Inconsistancy"]Graphics, animation, va, gameplay, all an improvement on Oblivion's, but... that's really not an impressive achievement. Hehe, still looks dull and boring.Stringerboy
If you go over to the Bethesada forums you will find that multiple people have played the game at conventions. They said that the combat felt heavier and attacks had more impact.
Indeed it does feel that way.Wow people here in SW just cant be pleased. I think Skyrim looks fantastic, Bethesda sure has come a long way from that prison escape intro from Oblivion, thats for sure.
Combat looks amazing, and we did not even see any proper archery or magic either, and melee would have looked even better if the player knew how to block right. The UI is looking a lot more intuitive too, don't know what other people are complaining about. Animations are a major step up, and the graphics are much improved over oblivion. And man that dragon...
Voice acting wasn't that bad, it was just that thief who kind of killed it, otherwise, all the other characters sounded good. I loved it when Rolof said "I rather not tango with that bear, lets sneak around." I was getting cod 4 vibes, he sounded exactly like McMillan from all ghillied up.
This has nothing on Skyward Sword, honestly. Maybe it's not my thing, but I don't see the appeal. Wasn't a fan of Oblivion either.

Most of those people are Bethesda fans, and they'll give it a pass, and I'd not be surprised if they were the same type of people who didn't like, or are afraid of games like Bayonetta. RPG's have so little focus on making the gameplay actually great, it makes me sad. (Standard anti-flame statement: I don't mean over-the-top, I mean fluid, fun, diverse, responsive, quick...)I skimmed through it just to look a the visuals. It's not a breath-taking game, or this guy was playing it on low settings or something. Oh well, going to be awesome nonetheless. Can't wait.Elann2008
It's the 360 version  Of course it's on low
Then again...they did say Skyrim will look the same across all platforms. I'm terrified how horrible those textures are gonna be on PC if they don't include their own high-res textures.

Doesn't say much considering Oblivion's combat animations was exactly like someone putting jelly on a piece of bread with a butter knife. So yes, anything in Skyrim will be a big improvement because there wasn't much to improve on. Just sayin'. I'm excited about Skyrim as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to be a fanboy (not directing it at you, speaking in general) about it.Please Log In to post.
