Why in God's name would there be a Demon's Souls 2? aren't the Demon and Dark games basically in the same series, apart from the setting? As I understand it, the only reason Dark Souls was Dark Souls and not Demon's Souls 2 is because Sony technically owns the Demon Souls IP.
there are differences (beyond improvements). demon's is far more gloomy, and the game is structured in levels. dark is more metroid-vania, where everything is interconnected. they feel very different when played, and having the two coexisting is really not that hard to imagine. Why in God's name would there be a Demon's Souls 2? aren't the Demon and Dark games basically in the same series, apart from the setting? One has Nexus where you chose level you wanna enter and the other is bonefire based. TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME!!!!! But seruiously they're both the same in every way possible but unless they decrease the quality of explorarion and difficulty, i'd want as much Souls titles as possible (NOT YEARLY). What if Demon's Souls 2 is built on a true next gen engine? I'll agree with you up, with the exception of the artorias dlc which feels more like a demon's soul arcstone. Best area in the game tooÂ

So basically the way the games are structured is different...
It feels like the Souls games don't need to follow the same patterns of the previous game with the new ones. Â Sicne the story is so bare bones, they aren't really constrained to one "idea" with the series.

Why do you think the director of DeS and DS isn't working on DS2? This is why.

I bet story will change with DkS2 though. They finally have a budget that is higher than what a McDonalds family meal worth.[QUOTE="turtlethetaffer"]

Personally, I hope they bring in more creepy environments. If it weren't for the fvcking obnoxious ghosts and poor framerate, New Londo would have been one of my fav areas in gaming.
[QUOTE="ShoulderOfOrion"]lettuce be cereal here. this game won't be nearly as good as dark souls 2, no from software.-Damien-this is by From Soft with the true director, one and only, Hidetaka Miyazaki I thought he was working on a next gen game? And why wouldn't From Software work on their own series instead of Sony's?

i just finished (well, i'm almost done with) the artorias DLC, and i don't see how you think it resembles demon's souls. if anything, it felt even more open than usual. it was also much more storied, with NPCs chatting about things that happened and even aiding you with certain things. if AotA is any indication of how DS2 will have a "clearer" storytelling, i'm all for it.Good god. Dark Souls 2 AND Demons Souls 2?
It really is true. Sony is for gamers, by gamers. Live, Love, Learn. The Kaz way.
Thank You, Kaz.

bare bones? what? i can understand saying that about demon's, but dark souls has just so much cool lore, and it's not just stuff you read in books or other items, you get to live and experience it. you SEE the knights of gwyn (hell, you fight some of them), you visit the great swamp, you visit the painted world and meet priscilla, etc. there is a lot of lore hidden in the details, and if you pay attention, then the things you see in the game become far more interesting.[QUOTE="turtlethetaffer"][QUOTE="silversix_"]One has Nexus where you chose level you wanna enter and the other is bonefire based. I just meant minimalistic. Basically the story is just "not there" enough so that the IP isn't constrained to one "stream of thought" (best way I can think of putting it) while still having cool lore.
Basically, I think the lore was well done enough to be enjoyable but not so much that it would seem strange if the next Dark Souls game went in a totally different direction.
The only thing that confused me was that the flow of time was so distorted... Made it really tough to put everything in a clear chronological order.

Cheaper.
And this is a next gen game.
Maybe that's why there are 2 other directors working on Dark Souls 2, the original is obviously busy with something. Why in God's name would there be a Demon's Souls 2? aren't the Demon and Dark games basically in the same series, apart from the setting? Ever heard of it?
I'm still only about 3/4 the way through Dark Souls, so if this gets announced than along with Dark Souls II, I'll just have to quit my job.
"Demon's Souls 2" is Dark Souls.  Destiny of Spirits is Destiny of Spirits. There is no Nexus. It clearly states in the description "open world" akin to Dark Souls, not Demon's Souls. If anything, it would make more sense to argue that it would be the 4th in the series. The only reason this even became an "issue" is because this series for a moment got the other Soul series treatment (Soul Edge, Soul Caliber, then Soul  Caliber 2, 3,4???)Why in God's name would there be a Demon's Souls 2? aren't the Demon and Dark games basically in the same series, apart from the setting? We can see why they would rename it to Dark because Demon was just a bit too out there for many people's tastes.
Â
The real question is if the lead designer/producer of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls will be heading this project because someone else is in charge of Dark Souls 2. If it is him, I look forward to it because this has become my favorite action rpg series.

The lead designer of Demon's Souls (Hidetaka Miyazaki) has been working on a next gen project for awhile now, speculation is that this is that project. In fact, he left the future of the Dark Souls series.
Hidetaka Miyazaki on stepping away from Dark Souls II and the future of the series.
play cooperatively online with up to three other companions, or haunt the worlds of strangers
Does this sort of imply that you may be able to invite friends without having to jump through so many hoops to do so? Feels like there's some emphasis on the word 'strangers' in this bullet point here.
Sure hope so. That's always been a gripe of mine in the Souls games.
