They love feeding the PC graphic wh***s. Oh wait, they need something to justify those $300+ video cards.

paullywog

hell of a lot better than justifying paying for P2P.

You have a different identity in every PC game and get no acheivements. How do you justify that?

achievements suck anyway.... Seriously, WHY do you need a game to tell you that you achieved something? I knew I achieved something when I beat Crysis on Delta. Didn't need a game to tell me that....

I don't believe you. SO prove it. You could easily prove it if you did it on a system with achievements.

the point of achievements is for lemmings to increase the size of their e-penis saying "l0l luuk at mii I beat teh game on uber mega ultra hard im so 1337 now bend over and suck it"

Acheivements?

Might as well hype PDZ2 while you are at it. Crysis is overrated garbage, just like PDZ. Get used to it.

Think about it. Crysis took 4 years. That includes building an engine from scratch, planning the story for all three games, settings, characters, etc. Q1 2010 is almost 3 years away, and they already have an engine, story, settings, and experience with the engine.

Manly-manly-man

re do your math... Q1 2010 is 2 years away(almost 2008 now)... Anyway, they may have the story, setting, engine and experience but the 24 month development cycle is there for a reason. Quality control. Built right into their schedule. 2 years of fine tuning and tweaking. They won't license their engine to anyone who doesn't follow their same 24 month development cycle either... That's why so few have licensed the engine...

lol who cares really. "I beat Crysis on delta" "Prove it!" *shows gamertag* "oh ok your really cool now". I still dont see anything special with achievements. They aren't that signifigant to make it better than online with the PC.

Not too mention we don't have to pay 50 bucks a year for it... Achievements are stupid, and that seems to be the only real thing you lemmings brag about on your 360's. Meanwhile, us PC gamers are getting dedicated servers, user created content, like new maps, models and game modes. And all you're getting is "omg look at my gamertag, I beat halo on legendary!". Seriously guys, sad, very sad.

interesting too bad Unreal Engine 4 is on its way and has been in development for about 2 years now. can anyone say Gears of War 3 on the NextBoX. this should make cry engine 2 cry literally.

here epext graphics on this level if not much better, 100fps,SM 5.0, DX11

Maybe Epic will come through with the new Unreal Engine 4 which they have been working on hard for the past 2 years http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_engine#Unreal_Engine_4

Imagine this but looking 3 times better, hard to imagine i know

the lines between games and reality is blurring and the 8th generation will bring the age of photorealism.

yes, and it does sort of encourage developers to add Easter Egg's like the gnome you can putinto the end game rocket in HL2: Episode 2(Little Rocket Man achievement), but then again, they are easter eggs. Chances are, as with most PC games, someone will figure out said easter egg and post about it on the forums. They are enjoyable but most games give them for things like beating the game or getting x number of kills. I would really like to see more easter egg based acheivements. Then they may have some worth.

we know nothing about how good UE 4 will be. Chances are, Crytek WILL have something up their sleeve at that point. UE 4 is stilllikely to be finisheduntil late 2010.... As for the 100 FPS, well... that is arbitrary... They have no way of delivering on any promise of a certain number of FPS unless they gimp on other features. Also, Unreal Engine has always been a PC first engine, and they have even said they are always going to be that way. Gears of War 3 will look good, but at that point, Crysis 2 will be coming out soon and have even better graphics most likely. Either taht or the engine will have better graphics. Crysis doesn't even scratch CryENGINE 2. It has features Crysis hasn't touched yet simply because the hardware isn't there. Crysis itself will get an upgrade in 18 months. UE4 probably won't look too much better than UE3. There WILL be a lot, but not 2-3 times better.

I still stand by my theory that graphics will hit a peak were they can't advance any further and then devs will pay more attention to detail instead of graphical beauty. Such as bullet holes in everything they hit, ricochet damage and visible damage and physics, damage to specific areas (think Gears and Soldier of Fortune but on everything, buildings, humans, machines, plants), advanced vapor and smoke physics. That is what I feel will be the future of video games, not photorealism.

At least thats what I would like to see happen.

Bansheesdie

The next huge advancements will be in physics and AI, undoubtedly. There will be a point when basically every game out there is strong on a graphically technical level, and it will be up to the art design and the rest of the game itself to stand out from all the others. Graphics will, overall, become a little less critical because people are going to start really looking at the other stuff in the future, like physics and A.I.

Crysis itself has probably started a graphical mini-revolution, though, because it looks so good. Similarly to how Gears looked so good when it first came out, it inspired countless developers to go with Unreal Engine 3.

And you then get worse graphics, worse gameplay, less exclusives, less AAA, less AA, less AAAe/AAe, no mods, and an overall worse experience. That's like saying, "Oh, the Corvette is pretty fast, and it's sort of luxurious. The Koenigsegg is better in every concievable manner. But since the Corvette is less, it is better."

What's wrong, couldn't run it past low? Crytek should've called Crysis "Cry", because that's all that the kids who weren't successful in begging their parents for a new Gateway computer do about it.

They coud devolep a game for the 360 calling it CryBaby, it will feature extreamly realistic tears

Yeah you are going to need the 10 series.

which will be a year old by the time Crysis 2 comes out... Crytek saying what they hope to achieve by no means implies that they have even begun production. Cevat Yerli is one of the more ambitious CEO's in the industry.... He wants to push the envelope and demandsthe bestfrom his team. People make jokes that Crytek is just trying to sell cards.... no, they are just trying to improve the industry. They are pushing technology faster than any other company now, helping physics, graphics and interaction reach new levels. Lems and Cows should be applauding Crytek because Crytek is paving the way for the technology you will consider standard next gen. Full destructible environments, huge levels, extreme levels of interactivity, beautiful graphics. This is the future of gaming and I think everyone knows it. Heck, even Valve, who isan extremelycorridor shooter oriented developer, knows it... If Episode 2's end battle is any signs of things to come, Valve hopes to open up the levels and allow player freedom. Ambition is what drives the industry and Crytek setting their goals high only produces excellence. They wanted to make Crysis the greatest FPS ever created. In a lot of ways, they achieved that. The first seven levels were absolutely amazing, and perfect in many ways. The last four were not nearlyas good as the first seven but they were still good levels. Different from the rest of the game in that they were fairly linear, but good.

Thats so freaking dumb.. If this is true I have lost all respect for Crytek.. Crysis was a phoneomal game on a breath taking engine that will look amazing for at least 5 years.. Why in the hell when computers already can't max it would they put a sequel to go even further with a even more powerful engine? They need to use this engine and just keep releasing expansions if anything.. I am insulted that they even wanted to do this...

You kidding me? It only shows how determined Crytek is to push gaming forward. If you don't like it play something else. If Crysis 2 came out and it didn't bring PC hardware to it's knees than it would be dissapointing. You are all a bunch of whinning babies...not like the game is coming tomorrow...it won't be out for years.

Why because Crysis graphics arn't good enough for you right now? The engine is fantastic, why in the hell would they scrap it when the graphics are great? Who in the hell would want to wait years for a new engine with another 15hour or less singleplayer? When the engine right now looks fantastic and will look for years! This just sounds dumb.. Its entirelly pointless to let a engine go to waste when so much can be made with this..

I would rather have them focus on gameplay, singleplayer and multiplayer.. We already have a sweet engine that no one can max.. Why must we keep crying for more graphics when nothingmatchs crysis..

[QUOTE="rimnet00"]It's obviously going to be an improved version of CryEngine2. CryEngine 3 would imply that they are starting mostly from scratch, which would be borderline insane. I mean think about it... look at the 'tweaks' that hvae come out to improve graphics beyong Very High -- or better yet, look at the crazy effects and graphics people have produced in their usermaps. CryEngine2 is extremely powerful... its full potential simply hasn't been realized yet considering there isn't the hardware to do so.usmcjdk6

I agree, if you think logically about it, its smarter to just use an updated engine of CE2 rather than a whole new engine

It's even smarter not to make another garbage FPS.

Your taste in games is garbage.

The game graphics right now are fantastic but they won't be in 3 years. Other things will catch up and things get better over time. Seriously, some of you make it sound like Crysis 2 is coming tomorrow..damn thing was just announced...and why would Crytek need to make more Single player on this engine when with the editor people will do that stuff anyways.

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]Thats so freaking dumb.. I am insulted that they even wanted to do this... sSubZerOo

You kidding me? It only shows how determined Crytek is to push gaming forward. If you don't like it play something else. If Crysis 2 came out and it didn't bring PC hardware to it's knees than it would be dissapointing.

Who said they are scrapping it? They are adding to it :| You do realize that development companies the size of crytek have multiple teams. Crytek at least has a team that works soley on the engine and another who works on the Crysis series. Valve has the same setup. Did you get mad when Source engine was updated?

I wouldn't worry about it. It makes NO logical sense and it would cost Crytek tons of money to release a direct sequel to a game on a different engine than one that is already so technologically powerful, versatile and advanced. We may see Crysis 2 on Cryengine 2.5. Don't think we'll see it on Cryengine 3. I'm sorry but they would just be dumb to do that, since it would be a huge waste of time and resources.

Personally, I would expect Crysis 2 to be out by Q4 of 2009. It's the middle part of a self-contained video game trilogy, with the previous one having left off on a clear cliffhanger. You don't wanna take TOO much time after a cliffhanger to show people what happens next. Like someone else mentioned, they don't have to build Crysis 2 from scratch like they had to after Far Cry, they already have the whole story and setting and such down.

engine go to waste? what are you talking about? Crytek already has 3 other newIP's in development on CryENGINE 2.0 and will continue licensing the engine to anyone who wants it. This engine will get another 2 years minimum of use. Probably 3 years.

Please by all means point us to a similar game.. Some would argue that Half-Life 2 Source engine still looks great.. Not the best but still great.. No my point is why would they make a sequal witha supposed better enhanced graphics engine when expansions would be much better? Who doesn't want more gameplay? In the end thats the major FLAW in some of these game they look too bloody good and are entirelly too short..

not only that but this time they actually own the rights to the engine and the IP still... Sorry just wanted to point out that they sold Ubisoft CryENGINE 1.0, thats why they rebuilt the engine...

Games can be to long. Like doom 3...that was great but just got tedious and to long for a shooter. Crysis is the best looking thing right now but in 3-5 years you think it still will be? come on.

Crytek themselves are investing great time in the mod community. It's one of the best things about the company. Mods and user-made levels and such are going to give Crysis a long, continued existance. It's what Crytek is counting on, but they're helping out as well. The game has a great mix of an flexible, easy to use and very powerful sandbox editor, combined with the Cryengine2's cutting-edge tech behind it, so the mod community should have a blast. I've already seen a lot of very cool stuff from upcoming mods, and have played some beautiful custom levels.

Not the best looking but great? Absolutely.. My point being is the fact that as tehse games look better and better the game becomes shorter and shorter.. I can only stomach this any further.. Half of you guys sound like a bunch of 10 year olds wanting more shinier explosions.. While people like me are fine with graphics now and are more concerned with lengthened gameplay that fully does the story.. Doom 3 is not a good example either, it had poor mechanics to alot and was relaly dry game play.. For me I would RATHER see Crysis spawn expansion or two going futher in story line and gameplay then anythign else..

I would like to see your point but you confuse me because shooters have always been more or less 12-15 hours in length. Even the first Half life was 12 hours. I don't see them getting shorter.
