Sony's asking what franchise they want to see continued on the PS4. Uncharted (action platformer) is beating the competition mercilessly, while Infamous (superhero sandbox) is in second. Killzone and Resistance are left stomped and beaten.

Of course they want Uncharted.

And if you asked the MS forums, they would say Halo in a heartbeat, so I dont think its dead yet.

Also, thanks the readers asking for J&D pretty much confirms a new installment. Sweet.

I'm not sure that has anything to do with the fps genre as a whole but rather the increasing popularity of the Uncharted series.

While Uncharted may not be a FPS, it's still a TPS. So I wouldn't say the "shooter" obsession is dying out.

btw, just out of curiosity you guys do realize infamous is a shooter right?

your powers are grenades, rocket launchers, snipers shots, regular shots and then movement powers.

if you are holding L2 looking down your sights and shooting all the time guess what? it's a shooter.

That's come to be expected. People seem to like Uncharted... I for one don't understand how it does anything better than inFAMOUS in terms of gameplay. I've always felt that those two Sony exclusive series should have been switched in their praise and reviews. I guess it's just the difference between good quality core mechanics verses a flashy cinematic disguise. People prefer good story presentation over player control and quality gameplay these days.

Uncharted is still a shooter nonetheless. Infamous is less of a shooter, but it still has plenty of shooter-like aspects.

I wouldn't celebrate just yet because it doesn't matter if a shooter is first or third person, it's still the same boring, repetitive stuff.

I dont think its dying. I would certainly say that the genre has hit a downward spiral in popularity and production due to the games like Uncharted that are pulling in new fans and making original FPS fans jump ship to the games like Uncharted. I certainly don't think FPS's are going anywhere and will jump out of the slump when Rage hits.

How many major releases this year are shooters? Based on that I would say FPS is still the dominating genre.

We can only hope so because it's become such a mindless genre now. As long as they keep pumping them out with pretty graphics the casauls will keep eating them up though.

The fact that he only asked you if you want to see another Uncharted, inFamous, Killzone or Resistance shows me that shooters are nowhere near gone. They have no plans to make a NON-shooter ........ :(

First Person Shooters have ben extremely popular since the original Doom and will remain to be popular until the end of time, that pretty much is fact.

A lot of FPS fans aren't the type of people who post on video game forums.

The next CoD will sell more than pretty much anything regardless of what polls say.

Shooter games will NEVER go away, this is a fact. The reasons are many and varied:

1. Human beings are violent. Despite social pressure to "advance" our species, the basic biochemical wiring of the human brain hasn't changed. Evolutionary anthropology>political correctness every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

2. Ease of play: you can pick up a FPS game, and genuinely enjoy it for 15 minutes, even if you aren't very good, and then put it down. It's very hard to do this with other genres like RPGs and MOBAs.

3. High Skill cap: FPS games have arguably the highest skill cap of any genre. The skill cap is different than other "competitive" genres like RTS and MOBA games. In those games, half of the "skill" is really knowledge, strategies...and the other "half" is actually performing. In FPS games, basically 100% of the skill is "actually performing the action." This is most evident in arena based shooters like Quake (which are also said to have the highest skill cap).

4. Historical basis, anchored in real world. People shoot each other in real life, people fight wars, etc. People don't shoot arcane, frost-fire bolts at each other. This fact makes a lot of people prefer shooters because they are at least, to a certain extent, believable. Yes, they have sci-fi, or supernatural elements as well but the basics are there. You shoot something, it dies.

Even though I like the Killzone and Resistance franchise this proves nothing. Uncharted and Infamous are simply better. If you asked this same question on the 360, Halo would most likely be the overwhelming winner.

I'm not sure what the title of your post has to do with the poll in question. The Playstation brand has never really been that heavily focused on FPS so the majority of the PS fanbase isn going to prefer a number of games to FPS. But that isn't even what they are asking here. It is just a general question. And technically Uncharted and Infamous are still very hot titles while Killzone and Resistance are secondary to most people.

If you look at some of the biggest and most popular multiplat titles, most of the them seem to be FPS. So while I personally would like to see FPS die down a LOT, and some new genre rise in popularity and focus, I don't see that happening right now.

Uncharted is a shooter..

Seriously why do people try to call shooters different things? Uncharted is a platformer, Mass Effect is an RPG and Generix Shooter X is a strategy/shooter hybrid..

I don't think so. It's just PS3 has bad controllers for shooters. Besides, FPS is still the top & best gaming genre anyway.

No it isn't. And hopefully it never will. I don't see why people wish gloom and doom on the FPS genre. Other genres of games are still being made. So what if their not as popular as FPS? So what if they don't sell by the trucktons like FPS? Does that all of the sudden make them bad games? FPS is here to stay. Will it always be king? This gamer hopes so.

inFamous has room to grow from an already awesome premise. Uncharted is awesome, I'm a huge fan, but that franchise is nothing without Naughty Dog, and I want to see them do something new next gen.

No FPS fans are "jumping ship" for Uncharted...

I'm sorry I didn't know u spoke on behalf of all FPS fans. My reasoning behind saying that is cuz I know a few people who refuse to play anything other than third person shooters after Uncharted hit.

I'd say it has more to do with how well received the franchises are than the genres. Clearly PS3 fans get their kicks from shooters just fine looking at sales of the Call of Duty franchise...

This has nothing to do with the FPS obsession dying out (and note: it's not), and everything to do with the fact that Killzone and Resistance are terrible franchises. Neither of those two can even come close to the quality Uncharted has.

uncharted is tomb raider...just prettier and with a dude instead...and infamous...sorta reminds me of a good super hero game...not too much that hasnt been tried before...they just took the good aspects from all the bad games and added a good paintjob...albeit its a good game...and done well...its not too original...but then...most games arent original anymore...nearly every thing has been done...just the presentation is diff...maybe a few game mechanics here and there are polished or done diff...but thats the same way that games have been for years...but OT...fps is not dying out...when halo dies...somethin else will take over...same with cod...always been that way
