I really hope congress passes some laws requiring all FPS games to be PC and all TPS games to be console only.

Just finished playing Turok on the PS3 and it was almost worse than Kane and Lynch was.

I'm on the edge here, so I'm not even going to give the impression of objectivity. I'm just going to list every way these stupid console FPSs mess up my life. And that's all they do, they mess up my life!

1)The analog sticks are too sensitive for aiming (Resistance, K&L, Turok) so you always end up overshooting the target. And this is made infinitely more difficult when the enemy runs and guns (as in Turok and Resistance), or when the recoil is g@y (as in K&L)

2)The analog sticks are [suprisingly] not sensitive enough when turning 180 degrees. This results in enemies flanking you (Resistence) and you do that thing where you tilt the controller, and twist your body in the general direction hoping that it'll help you turn more quickly

3)Idiot developers are jumping on this "open world" concept since Crytek invented Far Cry, but reasons 1) and 2) make it difficult to fight in open environments.

If you want to do FPSs on consoles do it the right way. Either give auto aim like in COD 4, or have very constrained environments so the enemies are coming at you from 45 degrees, not all 360 degrees as in resistance.

I believe that PC FPSs are superior but I don't have the problems with console FPSs that you do. They offer different kinds of gameplay.

Halo 3 was amazing because of its approach to its gameplay. That gameplay would not go over well on the PC mainly becuase its to slow and floaty. On the console it is amazing, just the right pace and takes just the right amount of skill.

I think console FPSs catch alot of unnecessary flak from PC gamers.

Is this even a debate? KB/Mouse. PC wins. Not to mention mod support, more variety, and better/larger online communities.

TPS as console only? That would be terrible. KB/Mouse works best with most genres. Compare Max Payne on PC to Max Payne on the Xbox. Yea, Nuff said'.

I have to agree. I got a 360 a few weeks back, and initially I was frustrated by using the controller in FPSs. But I'm slowly getting used to it, and it's clear that some games were designed with the controller in mind and actualy work. Gears and Halo do it well, but I can't imagine playing games requiring precision like Unreal Tournament or Quake III. Lef4Dead supposedly has a quick-180 button, which should help too.

KB+M will always be my fave, but the controller works fine too.

If the game is built well for a controller it can be very good and in someways superior (vehicle control). While the very fast paced games are best left on the PC, Halo showed us you can have a very unique and cinimiatic experiance on the consoles.

Your first mistake was using Turok as an example :? What the hell?

Then you go and say the sticks are too sensetive, then not sensetive enough. Trifles. Looks like your new to FPS on consoles, a couple good weeks toget acclimated and you'd probably change your mind. May not stack up to KB/M but it's still enjoyable.

That's my argument, but everytime I make it, people claim that I just suck at FPSs.

I'm still getting raped online when I play COD4 and I've finished the game on the hardest setting several times now. I can't stand the controls (without auto aim)

Gears, Halo and COD4 work very very well with a controller, some games are bit wobbly like HL2, Resistance, UT.

Then you also have the controller to consider, i find the 360 pad awesome for FPS games, the thumbsticks and position of the thumbsticks suit me perfectly, the PS3 pad i have some problems with mostly because of the position of the sticks but that has more to do with what you used to.

Either way i agree completely with Wasdie.

You take Gears, Halo, and CoD4 on PC though and play them and stack them against their counterparts and the PC version still comes out on top due to KB/Mouse (among other things but this seems to be what we're focusing on here). I own all on PC and they are all superior titles with a KB/Mouse. Halo 3 seems floatier than the first Halo so if you're speaking of Halo 3 then i agree. It's a very slow paced game probably better suited for consoles. Very simplistic. The original Halo, CoD4, and Gears though, hands down superior on PC.

I'm not basing my decision solely on Turok (although that game has ruined the better part of my week). It' also b/c of Resistance and K&L.

FPSs can be good on consoles, but you have to cheat by giving them auto aim, or putting a duck and cover system. I remember in Resistance the battles were literally 180 degrees, and it was so hard not to get flanked.

I never once said they wouldnt be better on the PC, i just said they work very well on consoles. Did you just say you played Halo 3 on PC lol? or i'm reading it wrong, either way i do think the Halo's are better on the Xbox, i was a huge Halo player back then and also had both for PC but i could never get into the PC versions, as you said they felt too floaty.

I dont disagree that Gears or CoD4 are superior on the PC but i also dont think that being superior on the PC makes them any less appealing on consoles, different strokes and all that.

BTW there was absolutely no need to throw in the "very simplistic" remark regarding Halo 3, it was designed primarily as a console shooter and it works absolutely perfectly for a console shooter, it also has a very good learning curve thats very clearly seen when you consider how competitive the Halo series has been (the biggest tournament console FPS to date, MLG etc.).

You read it wrong. Gotta get that reading down. ;)

You said Halo...not Halo 3. Read your own remarks correctly. Also, if you had actually read what i said you'd notice that i said that Halo 3's gameplay is more suited for consoles. It's slow paced and floatier than the past Halo's. Which is why i had no problem with Halo 1 on PC. Halo 3 though, yea, i wouldn't like it. It's a damn slow game.

Halo 3 is an easy game to play and be good at. That's what i'm getting at. It's simplistic in that nature. Biggest tournament console fps to date. I'm not surprised. It's virtually the only console FPS that's competitive in gaming circuits.

Sure, different strokes for different folks. That doesn't change the fact though that from a technical standpoint both Gears and COD4 are superior on PC for many reasons. People will always play what they want though, i wasn't debating that.

The only thing that makes it even remotely playable for anyone is the auto aim. KB/Mouse just can't be beaten in terms of precision in any genre. Devs know this so they "fix" it by adding auto aim. All they really do is make it so kids think that they are "good" at a game.

Agreed though. Pretty much unplayable with dual analog.

And i was never debating that (bolded) so i've no idea why you quoted me if we agreed to begin with. My original post was simply saying that shooters can be done well on a console irrespective of their superior PC counterparts.

And i'm sorry but i did read what you said (about Halo 3 being floatier) and i agreed with it in my last post although i also think Halo 2 Vista and to a lesser extent Halo PC were also very floaty compared to other PC shooters.

They have other tricks too, like firing from the scope which really just makes the targets bigger and, thus, easier to hit.

I think the reason dual analog doesn't quite work that well is not only because it is far too sensitive (the mouse can move 6 inches, but the analog stick can only 'move' half an inch) but also because there are two of them...Imagine playing FEAR with two mouses (mice?)

Before i switched to PC, console fps games, such as Halo CE felt natural using a controller. Now i just hate any FPS game without a m/kb. Really hate it.

I will say one thing though and i have said it before, i do like console FPS games online. Its so much easier with a controller to get kills. I'm so bad at PC FPS games online, some people have real skills with a m/kb, its unreal. Ofc i still prefer them on PC but atleast on the consoles i get a good few kills, unlike on most PC games lol.

There really is no comparison.

PC FPS in general is strides ahead.

There are titles with very interesting design - different to the norm, loads of customisation, the ability to make your own content or download others (e.g. mods) and of course the massive amount of control options.

Amen to that, the analog sticks just make it more difficult, hence why people claim it requires more "skill"

I will say one thing though and i have said it before, i do like console FPS games online. Its so much easier with a controller to get kills. I'm so bad at PC FPS games online, some people have real skills with a m/kb, its unreal

Frozzik

Ya playing counterstrike online is ridiculous. I don't know how people can be that good. But then again, when I play COD4 online (PS3) it's almost as ridiculous b/c it's so difficult for me to control the analog sticks

Why all the bashing on analog stick. Its not unplayable, its doesn't need auto aim to work or any other tricks. K&B is obviously more accurate, but you can still get enough accuracy through the usages of analogs. I can easily win using either controls. I had no trouble play games like TF2 on the controller or keyboard/mouse.
