1. It's working>> it will soon put them at the #1 spot.

2. I love the idea that I can introduce games to friends and familty who don't ususally play them. My gf is playig games with me now and we have a blast together.

3. Here in America we are fat. We are suffering from a major epidemic of obesity. If you can make excersie fun and make it a game then your golden to alot of people. I applaud Nintendo for thier efforts and wish other companies would focus on Making Excersie Fun.

4. They still got the hardcore games: Zelda, Metroid, Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Galaxy, Prime, Resident Evil, etc etc. Just because they throw other factors into the mix does not make then Anti-hardcore.

Nintendo is hosting a show called "E for All" I'm sure whatever they don't announce at E3 they will announce there.

Making their focus "games for everyone" will turn series like Metroid into casual trash. I don't want that. They should have three tiers of games. Something for the core gamers, something for the casual gamers and something for the non-gamers. They even said at the beginning of their conference that their main audience was 95% core gamers... yet their main attraction was a non-gamer exercise "game" or what should be called a "non-game." They are taking the entirely wrong route with their games, if they weren't supported by the core gamer through the 64 and GC years, they wouldn't be here to make the Wii.

None of the developers are showing anything further out then this year. Nintendo will always produce great 1st party. They are giving us Zelda, Mario G, Metroid, and SSBB all in one year how much more can you ask for? Seriously Nintendo is not slacking on their hardcore gamers.

Why did I add Disaster? Look what Nintendo put next to their press release about the Wii Zapper!

Wii Zapper : It arrives on store shelves later this year, packaged with Nintendo-developed software that shows off its versatility.

This HAS to be Disaster!

Ill be buying more Nintendo titles than any others this year. MP3, SMG, SSBB, BWii, Trauma Center, and depending on reviews- RE:UC, Zack and Wiki, Disaster.

Im buying Mass Effect, Halo 3, Assasins Creed, and Rock Band on 360.

I need more money... :(

action RPG? I dont think there will be another Metroid Game this Gen. Im hoping Retro goes back and makes Raven Blade! :D or a different new IP, they have so much talent over there!

As far as the future of Metroid... im thinking full galactic exploration with co-op usuing Federation troopers! =D

You guys act like SOny and Microsoft really care about the "hardcore" gamer as well. No they don't. They care about he money just like Nintendo. Nitnendo just has a wider vision and is expanding thier machien behind just a geek box. Sony and Microsoft will be following suit very soon when the Wii starts handing thier butts to them like it already has.

The problem isn't that Nintendo is trying to grow the market with games like WiiFit and WiiSports, its that they seemingly only care about the casual and non-gamer now and are neglecting the people who have kept them in the gaming business for the better part of the past 3 decades.

Nintendo games have always evolved and improved. Keeping things the same will just stagnate them. Metroid is absolutely begging for an RPG with deep NPC character interaction and deep, branching storylines to be made for it. Nitnendo and Retro have been expanding the universe for a decade already, there is tons of stuff in the universe... enough stuff for their to be an RPG. Metroid: Fusion has pretty much proven that Samus wants to speak, quite in depth about things as well. She already has a complex personality and we have only seen her speak in one game.

You guys keep throwing around Mario and Zelda and SSBB, like they're automatically hardcore, when in fact they are being (and have been) casualized just like all of the other games Nintendo is releasing.

I mean, did you play Zelda: TP? It was a cakewalk! And Mario Galaxy and SSBBB are going to be even more casual.

Well now your making it seem more like an Oblivion with a Metroid spin. I figured you meant more along the lines of FF12 but that could work pretty well I suppose. I'd like to see Nintendo release the Mother series stateside as well as Europe.

Nintendo has (most of) their hardcore fans already buying their systems already. I, for one, knew I wanted the system the second they revealed, even knowing nothing about the games or controller.

Nintendo right now is expanding the audience, no doubt about it. They're doing this with titles like Wii Fit and Sports. They want people to know about these games; that is why they are spending so much effort showing these games off. Wii Sports is not enough to attract casual gamers; Wii Fit will help with that. If Nintendo wants to expand the audience to these people, they have to sound like they care about the casuals. If they spent more time showing off hardcore games, would they have attracted that many more people? Not necessarily, since, like I said, I already have a Wii. Trailers and game announcements are good enough for me. Go ahead and have demonstrations of Wii Fit to attract the casuals. Hardcore gamers will be going to online sites anyway and finding about these hardcore games.

With titles like MP3, SMG, and SSBB, and I'm sure they have tons of other first-party games in their line-up for 2008, I'm happy as a harcore gamer. I don't feel neglected at all.

Thank you for your in-depth analysis of SMG and SSBB. SSBB may be simple to play and get into, which is great for casual gamers, there is a depth for hardcore and competitive gamers. I can't speak for SMG since I haven't played it--have you?--but it's fricking Mario and his platformers always have a good amount of challenge.

And for all we know, one of these days a third-party will make an incredible game on the Wii using it's remote to the fullest that it can't done on the 360 and PS3, and it's MS and Sony that will be missing out. Even big games have to start somewhere.

SMG hardcore? SSBB hardcore? Don't make me laugh. Those games are going to be easier and more casualized than Zelda: TP even.

MP3 is the only first party title you have coming that can be called "hardcore".

Considering you have such a twisted view of what makes a game hardcore, I don't even know why I should bother because obviously I can't change your mind and you can't change mine.

Hey man, I've never claimed to be a Halo fan, I have dissed the series on many occasions as being simplistic and repetitive. And yes, Halo appealed to a lot of 12 year olds, BFD. I admit that, I don't even like Halo, it's too easy.

But stop ignoring my point: Nintendo is lacking more than one (MP3) hardcore gaming title in its upocming line-up, and that's something that needs to be addressed... unless of course the Wii is only trying to appeal to casuals, which it is.

[QUOTE="PBSnipes"][QUOTE="Nin360"] You guys act like SOny and Microsoft really care about the "hardcore" gamer as well. No they don't. They care about he money just like Nintendo. Nitnendo just has a wider vision and is expanding thier machien behind just a geek box. Sony and Microsoft will be following suit very soon when the Wii starts handing thier butts to them like it already has.DaAznSaN

The problem isn't that Nintendo is trying to grow the market with games like WiiFit and WiiSports, its that they seemingly only care about the casual and non-gamer now and are neglecting the people who have kept them in the gaming business for the better part of the past 3 decades.

I own a Wii too and I love it, my worries are that a) even the core franchises like Mario, Metroid and Zelda are casualized and b) that Nintendo and other developers are going to focus primarily on casual/non-gamer games and put all of their "hardcore" games on the 360/PS3 when the Wii has so much potential. Reggie already hinted at a change in MarioKart Wii, and how they hope that a casual fan can instantly compete with a veteran gamer. Whether this refers to just the Wii steering wheel or deeper changes to the game, it cripples the online component. Why would i want to play a game in which it is essentially a cointoss as to whether a veteran gamer or a first time player wins?

As for new games I'm hoping Nintendo is saving game announcements for another event like TGS because based on the E3 presentation it seems like Nintendo's development team is more worried about games for the people who thinksolitaire is the be all and end all of gaming than the people who appreciate games like MP and RE4,games that are deep and take skill andthought to beat. My worry is that other than the odd Metroid or Zelda gamethe only games coming out will be in the same strain as WiiFit and Elebits.

i bought a snes to play games, i bought a ps to play games, i bought a n64 to play games, i bought a ps2 to play games, i bought a ps3 to play games, im not going to buy a wii because nintendo isnt about getting games to there system they are about finding ways to appeal to casuals...i am not a casual im not going to buy the wii because its not getting masses and masses of games like the 360 and ps3. and idc how much the wii is selling because 75% of the people who bought a wii are casuals and 3rd parties know that, they arnt going to waste time to dev a great game because the casuals wont buy it. Instead 3rd partys are going to make games taht appeal to casuals.

Nintendo showed comparatively as many '08 titles as MS and Sony. Yes they spent a lot of time on a "non-game" Personally I thought MS spent a lot of time on Rock Band or whatever it was. Oh well.

I have to laugh at the people arguing about "no hardcore games", "Zelda, Mario, SSBB are not hardcore" I've read too many threads on here where people can't defend what a hardcore gamer are and now you're trying to say what games are hardcore.

I don't consider any Mario games hardcore, so there are very few casual+ games coming out for Wii. I think the Wii is going down a trap. They may think they have it won with getting everyone to buy their console. But think about it, the guy who owns a 360 will buy Halo3. If he buys Halo 3, he's more than a casual gamer most likely, so soon, he'll go out there and buy CoD or AC, then he'll buy more games too, like Mass Effect or whatever. But a casual gamer, Wii's best customers, all they want is fun at a party. They'll buy a fun party game, then just play that whenever they're bored. The casual gamers do not care about games enough to buy half the titles that comes out for the Wii. So they'll buy much less games because they don't play as much as hardcore gamers and when they do play, they're satisfied with playing minigames that are infinite and fun to play whenever. I think the Wii will lose horribly in the game selling part. Just my opinion.

You hope. It may be the last one to be hardcore.

When you misspell the topic, you loose credibility.
