"Konami has announced that preorders for Metal Gear Solid 2 in Europe have reached 1.57 million units, surpassing the company's original expectations of 1 million units. With those numbers included, Konami expects to ship a total of 4.5 million units of Metal Gear Solid 2 worldwide this fiscal year. By comparison, the original Metal Gear Solid has sold more than 6.6 million units to date.
The European release of Metal Gear Solid 2 is currently scheduled for March 8. "
"Konami's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was the best-selling console game in November, followed by Grand Theft Auto III, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Harry Potter: The Sorcerer's Stone, Madden NFL 2002, and WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It. In all, the PlayStation family of products accounted for five of the top 10 best-selling console games in November and more than 60 percent of that total revenue."
It outsold GTA for petes sake, if thats not a system seller then what is?

"Reorders were coming in from the retail level by the end of the first day of sales. We knew that there was going to be a huge demand for the new Metal Gear, but even we have been surprised by the overwhelming reaction from gamers across North America.''
(on a side note the only other million seller for ps2 was FFX, PS3 has Resistance and Motorstorm)
