We all now Tom's review was inaccurate, but what are your impressions? I haven't got enough time to play it that much.

A solid 9. There are moments in the game that didn't need to be in it, and the puzzles are a little on the easy side considering they removed the non linearity of the dungeons and overworld but they are still clever and the combat is excellent.
9/10 easily. I'm not that far in the game though. Controls are freakin' amazing and fluid. I don't see how anyone could screw up with them.
I'd give it a 9.0. I think it suffers from filler, but it's amazing when it's on, and the game is way too massive for me to give it a lower score.
8.5/10
-1 for the need to re center retical - quite often.
-0.5 for not being able to show complete dialog with a press of button. So you hav to sit thru words coming out.
It is still a very good game and I'd recommend it :)

A very good reason to deduct half a point.
I hated having to wait for your bugs and resources to be tallied. That couldn't have been done in-game?GunSmith1_basic
lol I remember they did that for rupees in TP and I was like, yes they don't do that here, then I got a treasure.

For the ones who played Skyward Sword, what score would you give it?
D4W1L4H
A 9.0 or 9.5. It's amazing for what it is. There are a few mishaps in the controls, but it was worth it .
I can't bring myself to say a 10, just because there has been a few thigns here and there that I thought could have been done better. However, for me the game is definitly between a 9 and 9.5 for me, more towards 9.5. It is getting even better the further in, I am almost to the 5th dungeon now.
An 8.5. Better than most mainstream games for sure, but not exactly mind blowing either. I dont like some things it did to Zelda lore.
What I hope for for the next Zelda game is one that combines the best elements from Skyward Sword and Majora's Mask and refines the elements from both. Also, I like it more when you upgraded your arsenal by completing side quests and explored the world, as opposed to collect the materials for them.
So far a 9.5, i haven't found any huge flaws in the game, the characters are charming, the music is good, the combat is really fun, the level design is superb, the graphics are ok, the controls work pretty damn good and the plot is interesting.
If anything my only complain is the controls who can be a little bit inaccurate but most of the time is my fault for not making the movement clear enough.
I could nitpick more but if reviewers overlook critical flaws in games because it doesn't diminsh the overall experience i can certainly overlook some things like Fi's lacks of any sort of personality or some ugly textures here and there, but that's about it.
I would go 9.5 simply because there are minor things I dont like:
1) I don't think its Fi's job to tell me my batteries are low
2) I don't like the chime the game makes to get me to push the c button everytime I require a new dows.
3) My main complaint about all Nintendo games is the annoying beeping it makes whenever it gets low on health.
Oh please go to any "reader" review for almost any game and plenty of dumb asses are throwing around 9's and 10's around like it's nothing. Heck they'll do it simply because they disagreed with whatever the main review score is. Even worse for Nintendo fanboy games like Zelda. Give someone a gamecube controller, put skyward sword on the screen, they would never think it was a game from the future. Bread_or_Decide

Hey, remember when Tom's review came out and he complained about control problems and people here flipped on him claiming the controls were "perfect" and "a justification for Wii Motion +"?
Now I see in this thread people keep bringing up control issues as a negative for the game.
Funny thing, huh? Maybe next time we won't talk out of our ***** about games we have not played yet guys?
I mentioned a few of my complaints in the SS thread, some of them have cropped up here(unskippable text, "item get" popup everytime you restart the game and collect a new item) while others have yet to(the imprisoned fights could have used more shackin up between battles. The sky while not as barren as some would suggest is surely not as brilliant, exciting or full as some of the series previous more open areas have felt. Retread through dungeon 1 was a lost oppurtunity, tho not inherently bad). But they are minor nitpicks. They are things that, when looking back on the game and being overly critical, i can see as areas nintendo should improve on. Just nothing that overall impeded the excitment in a meaningful way. I can understand people disliking the direction that SS has taken the series in, it loses alot of its freedom in order to be a more linear journey. There is plenty of excellent exploration, it's just that alot of it is now needed to progress and i can understand how not having the choice can piss off people.
When taking SS for what it is, a massive dungeon, i think it was incredibly successful. It has some amazing variety in its gameplay and gadgets. It remains true to some series staples while providing plenty of new direction - such as a stamina bar which allows link to move at a quicker pace on foot as well as while climbing, making platforming much more free flowing. A simple upgrading system that adds depth while not being obtrusive. It has more open concept dungeons and treats the pre dungeon content as dungeons in itself. The motion based controls really put the player into the combat and work incredibly well(after so many years of dreams and hopes for anyone that saw some potential in motion controls, SS is the most successful by a landslide and it really deserves more praise for it). It's dungeons and bosses have a fresh new design from what we'd expect from the series without seeming completely alien. Skyloft(and some of the surrounding islands like the lumpy pumpkin) add incredible character to the world and feature some short but entertaining sidequests. There are plenty of charming memorable characters who's personalities shine through the lack of voice acting(ugh, we need it now nintendo) with smart writing, great art, and body language and it really shows an incredible level of detail the zelda team puts in their games. The story is simple but brilliant and in many ways subtle(ironic given fi's handholding). I'm not sure if i'm ready to say it's the best the series has been, but it certainly isn't of a much lower degree of quality. I will say that i'm excited for the future of the zelda series because it looks bright.
5/5. Goty, for whatever it matters.
F the 10 point scale.

From what I am reading in this topic there is no one using the controller obviously wrong and complaining that it doesn't work. I'm seeing people that just aren't fans of the motion, or people saying its more accurate than expected which can cause wrong actions if not carefull. The complaints about TOm's review were that he was wrong, Gamespot even had to add a note saying this at the end of the review
I thought this was a thread asking people who actually have the game, not a bunch of dipsh*ts parroting Tom's review7.5. Just look at todays standards and the controls arnt really perfect.
g0ddyX
As for the topic at hand I'd give it a solid 9.0. There are some boring moments like most of the parts in Faron woods, but the awesome moments more than make up for it.

Ummm didn't Tom say EXACTLY that as part of his issues with the controls though? That they felt TOO accurate at times?
He messed up ONE part of his thing with the controls but that's not even what people had focused on. They FLIPPED at him suggesting the controls were NOT PERFECT, even without having ANY experience playing with said controls and even in light of that TERRIBLE Skyward Sword presentation before where the controls were flat out not-functional.
And in general, alot of the complaints about Tom's review was that he gave it a 7.5 which is what he felt it was cause, God forbid, he didn't have the absolute time of his life with the game and declare it game of the gen or even game of the year.
Seriously, I have never seen so many idiots flip on a review for a game they have never even played. They should be embarassed for acting so damn stupid....

 I'm at the very end section of the game and I still don't see many of these control issues that Tom was going on about. There was a learning curve at first, but that's to be expected.id give it a solid 9, it was a damn fine game, had some memorable music in it and some good dungeon design, fighting girahim was my most hated part of the game, i may have been making it artificially harder for myself as i went through the whole game without a sheild though

Dumbass troll am enter the thread
9/10.
I beat the entire boss rush on hero mode which means I slayed all the bosses in the game with only 18 hearts, and that was without any control hiccups so that alone is a testament to the fact that the controls are practically flawless in this game.
I love the graphics besides the jaggies and there was a lack of variety in the visuals. A one word description of the OST is: natural. All the tracks fit the moments in the game perfectly. The characters are what makes this game feel so alive. In regards to VA, I can go either way, I wouldn't mind having it as it is in SS because the sounds NPCs make are very well done, just listen to the bokoblins fall to their death, it almost makes you feel bad the way it screams lol.
The highlight of SS was exploring the areas (or should I say puzzle playgrounds) of the surface world, it felt like I was playing a 3D game for the first time because of how brilliantly the game takes advantage of all three spatial dimesions. The skyworld needs to be fleshed out, but the idea was awesome. Skyloft is easily one of the best towns in the series; it's the only one in the game so it better be!
In short, WM+ needs to stay, the dungeon design was too simple for my liking (4th is the best), the puzzles in the game are very clever but never reach a satisfying level of complexity, no ice temple is a bummer and there's too much hand holding, the combat and difficulty balance is perfect, I loved the upgrade/treasure system, I never got rupee capped, I liked the way the game re-uses content to create a diverse game from a gameplay standpoint.... there's too much to talk about this game let's just stop there.
I think people have to try to separate their personal opinion and look at it objectively.
For example my favorite game of all time is Majora's Mask so my personal preference would be a 10/10 but I totally agree with it being scored AA. Any score should be an indicator to any Joe off the street if they would like the game or not. Just because you are patient enough to endure a game's flaws doesn't mean everyone else will.
You can't just say there are huge flaws and then say it should be AAA. The imperfect controls will be infuriating to some. That new pointing system is awful btw. I don't see why people don't acknowledge that it was better in Twilight Princess with the IR. Look at it objectively. Just because you had patience with it doesn't mean that your average gamer will, and you can't tell everyone that they're doing it wrong. Anyone who absolutely NEEDS tight control would probably give this game a 6 if they were going on personal preference.
Tom talked about padding, and imo there is such thing as good padding and bad padding. Good padding is optional or insignifcant. Skyward Sword has too much of the bad kind and not enough of the good kind. There is a lot of bad padding that just feels tacked on and unnecessary and some of it is even inconsistent with the rest of the game.
Despite all that, the average gamer would find a lot to enjoy in the game. AA
