Why did you buy an hd console instead of a wii? The wii graphics are fine and the console hasbeen cheap from the start.

Or is it because you want more power, soo what's wrong with that. I see console gamers here complaining about the price of a pc then turn around and bash the wii for inferior graphics; and alsobash sheep because they have less power. Then they turn around and bash hermets for bragging about pc superiority. Isn't thatjust hypocracy now sw?

You ps3 fanboys bought into a ps3 for $600 with no decent games other than resistance, bu..buu.but GIANT ENEMY CRABZ!!:|

You 360 fanboys complain about the price of pc gaming but seem to have no problem paying $50 a year for something that everyone else does for free, bu..buu.but ITZ WORTHZ IT!!!:|

Oh, and paying $50 a year for Live is nothing like spending a couple of hundred on a new... GPU or CPU.

I bought my PC because my laptop of 3 years is dying, and besides the poor case I don't have any regrets about my PC.

Considering how many PS3 owners likely picked it up at the $400 or less price point and the cheapest Wii and 360 are $200 then there is no double standard here, PC gaming is just expensive. Its expensive to have a PC capable of running games at a level equal to or better then consoles (unless you prefer cheap rigs that play games as if they had PS2 era graphics and loaded with issues), then you have the need to upgrade every few years, with more upgrades then console life spans.

PC is more expensive. I am typing this on a laptop. I would like a nice pc, but I'd need EVERYTHING--mouse/kb, audio, monitor, os, etc. That is a lot of cash.

Price is only one issue. And it's a much bigger difference between PC and console than console and console. Well usually, 600 euor PS3 begs to differ :P

Considering ps3 owners DID buy it for $600, and considering wii gives a full experience for that pricetag..... I'm going to disagree. Oh also you don't need the top of the line in pc hardware to play your games at the same and or higher resolution than the hd consoles.

Not even that, specially these days when games are created with the consoles in mind(consolization) and nobody seems interested in topping crisis yet, so no.

1. Certain types of games come out on consoles. Certain types of games come out on PC.

2. I waited till it was 299, thank you very much.

I picked up my PS3 for $400. Plus, and this is just me, but I would rather have a $600 console then a $600 PC. Because with the console you know that all games will be more or less the same technically and you won't have to settle with some.

lol the fact still ramains that people did buy it for that price without any real insentive other than looking at the future. It's just lame when you have to hear it from fanboys when a pc gamer does it.

all of them have their advantages.... sometimes you pay a hefty price premium for said advantages.

Consoles should not cost $600, it is OK for PCs because they are more than just a gaming device. It is a computer that you can do nearly anything, but a console is a video game machine first and last.

If you had to pay the actual price of a PS3, you would still come up with a reason why it is still cheaper if it cost $1000.

Console makers sell the hardware at a loss. Ever wonder why your games cost more? The difference is made up on game sales.

$265 is sure expensive

But hey he got some used and second hand parts. Bottom line is if you want cheap PC gaming its possible and obtainable. You just need to get creative. That's $265 worth of hardware playing at settings that consoles could only hope to dream of.

Well I wouldn't have paid $600 for a PS3.

I think console game prices is just an urban legend created by the big 3 consoles and the big producers. With the amount of games sold it would even out, development costs and whatever else.

Using these standards... I just checked craigs list and in my area there is a red ringed 360 for sale for $15.... so if i bought that and fixed it.... technically console gaming only costs $15?

Would you not have to pay to fix it? Unless you know the exact problem and how to fix it, you still have to pay MS to do so and that cost is included in the total.

PCs- spend 500-800 on a cheap rig that would need to be upgraded in a year or two, or spend over a 1000 to get the best rig that would last for 4 years. Plus also factor in hard drive, case, monitor, keyboard, mouse and Windows 7 OS (can't go Linux if you're gaming) if this is your first computer ever. Consoles- costs anywhere from 200-300 bucks, plus HDMI cables, HDTV if you don't have one, extra controllers for friends, 50 bucks a year just to play online if you own a 360, Move/Kinect are on the way, which means more money down the drain. Did I also factor in an extra 10 bucks for each game on consoles (exception for PC are Activision/Blizzard and Ubisoft games)?

That an easy one for me, PC doesn't give me quality fighters, platformers nor JRPG's, my favorite genres, also my favorite things about gaming have always been the ability to play with my friends and family in the living room of my house and thanks to PSN, Xbox live and a number of Wii games I have kept this part of gaming alive in my home.

The only way can play in my home with my friend in my home is by LAN which unaffordable by me and just like Splitscreen is dying a slow dead. but at least I have my favorite genres in consoles. My PC is great but alone is not enough to tide me over.

yea you can buy kits online to fix red ringed 360s complete with instructions... or i have seen methods where you just use a stack of pennies held together with electrical tape to act as a ghetto heatsink.. which only costs about 15 cents. Alot of people buy red ringed 360 and sell them for profit all the time. There were several people advertising they were buying red ringed 360s also on craigs list.

I just checked and you can buy red ring fixing kits for 7 bucks on ebay.... giving me an error when i try to link it though.

So a 360 can cost as low as $22 if you are a little creative and intelligent... but looking at the kit you could probably pick all the parts up at a hardware store for $2 and just use directions online... so maybe even as low as $17.

You don't really need to do a major upgrade on your computer any more often than you need a new console. Besides, once your setup is superior to the current gen consoles, there really isn't a need to upgrade until the next gen of consoles comes out.

ATTENTION!

Everyone forgets the most important part about gaming. THE GAMES!

Console games cost on average $60 while PC games are $10 to $30 less.

Take F1 2010 for example which hasn't even launched yet:

Xbox 360 - $59.99

PS3 - $59.99

PC - $35.99

That's $24 less to get the best version of the game on PC.

No matter what anyone tries to say..PC gaming IS.."IS" more expensive then consoles to start out with at least. 500-600$ for the pc....IF you buy prebuilt then windows comes with it..IF you build then you have to spend another 100-300$ for windows. Then a monitor,mouse,keyboard,speakers..

This is all I have to say to anyone thinking its "expensive:"

The PC you are posting on right now is capable of playing games... and in most cases, should run some of the best games the PC has to offer. Hell, a PC I got for free came with a Celeron rated at 2.5 GHz, 1GB DDR-333 RAM and an integrated GPU... and it can run games like System Shock 2, Age of Empires II, StarCraft, Deus Ex, Fallout, Planescape: Torment and Half Life perfectly. And I'd play those games any day of anything offered from modern PC gaming.

You dont just sit around in your house with a monitor, k/m, speakers just sitting there so you DO have to get those to actually use your pc. I mean we can draw at straws all night long, but in reality there is the added cost of "windows,monitor,m/k,speakers"...UNLESS you get a package deal with your pc. AND even then its going to be well over 500-600$.

There is no aruging that PC gaming is more expensive in the short term.

This place is run by double standards, man:o

You got that right. Very good points you have.

Speakers aren't fully needed you don't need them 100% so they can be removed from the full pricing, along with a TV being used as a monitor for your computer. So monitor can be removed, Im sorry to tell you that 'not' everyone has a TV, I do not have a TV.

While this is true, if someone wanted a PS1 they could also get on ebay and buy one for $20 too. Whether console or PC gaming, it's always more cost effective to be a generation or more behind.

depends on the size of the tv... I have a 62" hdtv... thats not gonna fit on my computer desk... and i dont want to plop my computer desk in the middle of my living room.

but i dont think monitors or hdtvs should be considered a part of system costs in general.

My last PC which was mid range when I bought it in 2004 has lasted me 6 years. I bought NZ$200 upgrade during that time (2gb RAM, 8600gt). I bought it at $500 and it came with everything (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers).

Anyway, to answer the OP, people most likely bought a PS3 and/or 360 over a Wii to 1) get access to their large multiplatform libraries which aren't available on Wii and 2) enjoys graphics that are a clear step up from the ones that last generation consoles had. I don't think the PC factors into their mind other than 'I hope this console is powerful enough to get PC multiplats, even if they're downgraded, so I have access to more games'.

would kinda ruin PC gaming online if i had to play a bunch of KB/M users on a controller...

There is no aruging that PC gaming is more expensive in the short term.

That could also apply to PC owners who already have monitors and speakers. In any case this far into the age of HDTVs, the VGA/DVI/HDMI ports on most sets aren't just for curiosity's sake. Plus, I find using an HDTV for a monitor has some nice perks of its own. For one thing, the HDTV video smoothing some console gamers talk about work equally well with PC games. Another is PnP (Picture in Picture).
