What's your thoughts on them releasing an ipad 3 in the not to distant future (hey they'll no-doubt be an ipad 3d soon as well). Do you think Apple should get away with this year after year knowing full well people will buy them anyway overpriced or not (which they are) Oh and for SW purposes Android >>>>>>>> IOS any day of the week month or year. Over and out

Not even worth it. They'll just over saturate the market and lose it.

Sure why not? Nobody says you have to buy every single one that comes out right? I've got an iPad, didn't buy an iPad 2 when it came out same deal with having an iPhone 4 and not getting the 4S. There isn't a point unless you have cash to burn and don't care.

It's not like it's the same people always buying the same product over and over again, dude. At the rate technology moves they have to release updated products to stay relevant. Sure, a few hardcore fanboy types will buy it up, but Apple set the market for smartphones and tablets on fire. As far as I'm concerned as long as their product quality stays as high as it is and as reliable as it is than bring it on.

Tablets certainly have a reason to exist, personally I'm getting an android product or waiting for W8, however.

As mentioned, Apple wants you to buy a new one every year.

Yes, but they alienate prior customers, as the tech improves and applications are optimized for the newer hardware. Apple makes good products, but they have a really sh***y business model.

I don't have the iPad, but I do have the iPhone and truthfully it seems like products are optimized to work on more than one phone at a time and I imagine the same will be true once iPad 3 is released. Take Infinity Blade II for instance, it is still compatible with the iPhone 3GS. That's the one two models before the 4S. It really isn't as bad as you guys make it out to be.

Why would you want to keep support old technology? A lot of software and hardware companies in the enterprise world have the same model that Apple does for its consumers. If it's to old sorry we don't support it and you need to upgrade.

It's like if someone tries to run The Witcher 2 on Windows 98 or something. There's a certain limit to how far back things can be supported, and I think Apple goes back just far enough for me to not complain.

It's been their strategy for years why should they change it? They have an eager fanbase that is willing to kick out the cash. God bless 'em.

I have my own strategy on Apple products. If I'm going to get one it's a 4gen product or later and Since macs are useless to me I stick to their mobile devices which I really like.

The 4s is the bomb yo. Other than that Apple does nothing for me.

Everyone knows that buying a piece of tech, a new version will be out not too long after. Apple stuff is just massively hyped and followed about updates for some reason.

For the ipad I would argue against it being overpriced, their computers sure but tablets they are still the ones to beat. Sure it doesnt have all the expansion ports that other tablets do, but this keeps the exterior clean, and frankly i have never used an SD slot or HDMI plugin on anything other than a game console to output to the TV. As for build quality, iPad is great. Everything else feels like a plastic thing that will fall apart.

In terms of hardware, you dont need huge hardware muscle to do well. Sure iPad 2 isnt quad core, but quad core is overkill on anything that isnt very computational heavy. Even for desktop computers more than a dual core is overkill for gaming as we are barely getting into games that use more than one thread.

No one can match the stuff on the app store though, even android. So the ipad doesnt have the hardware muscle of newer tablets, but it still performs very competitively in speed tests against tablets with stronger chips.

A lot of people seem to be tricked into 'gotta have top of the line hardware' but you dont, when you have something that fuctions so well with what is inside.

I don't see it as a problem. I mean, look at Android manufacturers. Motorola has released 4 Droids this year alone(yes they're phones not tablets but same principal) and Asus has released both Eee Pad Transformers this year aswell. Compared to them, Apple's release cycle is long as hell. It's the way technology is. You can't expect them to wait around for three years when hardware is improving so rapidly.

It's the Call of Duty of Technology.

There are bajillions of Apple Zombies out there that will buy it.

I would like an iPad myself just to play it on the iCade, but heck they're WAY too dang expensive.

Annual refreshes are expected. It'll probably be in April or May some time next year. It's not a surprise.

Sorry but I love my ipad 2, it's definitely worth the money. As for a new ipad....not really worried about it as long as I can still get apps that work. A lot of ipad 1 users miss out on some of the better games like Aquaria. Oh, and for SW purposes Ipad 2 >>>>>> Any other tablet out there.

Well if you consider that the cheapest decent dual core tablet which can run Honeycomb cost $499+ then ya.

MlauTheDaft

I don't find that to be entirely true.

I have a 3rd Generation Ipod Touch from 2009, and it still gets the lastest updates of iOS. I'm not going to say that Apple is the most benevolent company in existence, but if they reallly wanted me to buy a new one all the time, they wouldn't have let me have any update after 2010 started.

People dont understand that tablets are nothing but a new variation of PCs first we started with huge desktops which wasnt portable at all then we got laptops which were portable but many people would rather not carry them espacially if they were not going far away or for a long time now we got tablets which made things more portable.

It is nothing like that. Windows 98 is very old. I had a 2nd gen iphone, and the upgrade happened six months after I got it. Apps still worked when the new version of the phone arrived, but they weren't without their kinks--and then when the NEXT version arrived it wasn't even worth attempting to run the new stuff. I won't say they bad products, because they are very good, but it is how Apple attempts to pigeon-hole the consumer into the mindset of "well, time to upgrade."

This is a funny thread. Apple releases new, powerful hardware, and people get on them for their CoD release schedule and minor updates. They don't release an updated product, another company releases something a little more powerful technically, and Apple gets it for having slower hardware.

The only place Apple isn't setting the bar is in the fantasy world of the video gamer. Everywhere else, Apple is king. When will you all decide to catch up?

^ This is one of the Apple cultists I was referring to, can't even have a civil conversation with this dude about apple related products.

Is it because rather than citing references or relevant information, you immediately dismiss my posts because I'm a member of the Apple cult? I'd call into question your logic.

No I just remember your last apple related thread, even if you want to go down that road, think about what you said. You say companies release stronger hardware than apple and then you turn around and say the only place apple isn't setting the bar is in the minds of gamers or whatever. Apple is only leading in software support. They are even behind when it comes to cameras which his hilarious considering the type of people that they try to market to.

It really depends , I for one , skipped the iPad 1 because it was blatantly an intentionally watered down version of the next iPad , it obviously lacked camera , sim card , etc , so I went straight for the iPad 2.

With the iPhone , I went straight to the iPhone 4 , the others were just tooo mediocre to be bought , and as much as I love apple products , I only do when they look finished , that's when I'll buy them , and if further additions are worth it , I'll buy it again , the iPhone 4S doesn't deserve to be bought , it's their annual cash-in.

In the end of the day , I'll only buy an iPad 3 if it's truly something that offers more than the predecessor , and for SW purpose : iOS>>>>>>>>>>Android

Didn't know Apple sold cameras. Last one they had was the QuickTake from '94 to '97 and that was a piece of crap.

I dont see the problem.... Would you rather the ipad 1 still cost $499 and have a life span of 4-5 years ? Or would you rather have a new one every year with the last iteration still being supported.
