lol playing a video game itself isn't so mature in the first place. :P it's not like it's a sport or anything.

kid game or not, at least it's not seeing a man playing a girly barbie game or something. i'd be surprised if i ever see one,

so seeing a 40 yr old man playing a pokemon game, i dont see anything wrong with that - of course, provided that he has a family (wife and kids).

but a 40 yr old man living with his parents without his own family, playing videogames? just lol.

In the last 15 yrs, I can only say that I have played a couple of Kiddie games.  One is Sims 2 on the PC, and that was with the nude patch and a couple of lady co-eds characters named Lulu, Lori and Ginger.  The other was Kameo for the 360, not bad a  game, but did lose interest.

Then there are Teenie games like Need for Speed, that again I lost interest in quite fast.  "Blinging out you Ride" and racing "wanna be rap stars, just ain't my cup of tea.

I always like games such as Rome: Total War, Civ 4, IL 2, HalfLife 2, KOTOR and Company of Hero's type games.  Those are PC games, more thinking and much more involved.  The 360 provides to me a decent bridge to Hardcore/casual entertainment.

The Wii will always be a kiddie/casual gaming system. So I will most likely never purchase it.

The PS3 will always be a Teenie/casual gaming system.  So I will most likely never purchase it.

I have the best secondary system for my PC, and that's the 360 that acts as my Media Center Extender as well as a Hardcore/casual gaming system.

Get over the Kiddie stereotype, if that's the games you like to play, so be it.

I am a gamer, and I enjoy games....period!

I can come off of a marathon of Gears and pick up my DS and play Mario Kart with my daughter for hours.

If a game is fun, thats all that matters to me...

Game On...

i dont bash them, i just done like them. yeah, when i was a kid, sure. but im 25 and my tastes have changed.

what irks me....is people that deny a game is kiddie. if its kiddie its kiddie. its not a bash, its stating the truth. there is nothing wrong with a game being kiddie.

lespaul1919

What irks me is the misuse of the word mature.  As GameCentral in the UK put it, 'Resident Evil 4 is a great game but it's about as mature as a cheese string.'

Of course I'm not saying that games such as this are 'kiddy', but ultra gore and violence is most appealing to teenagers and is certainly not mature.  Mature themes yes, mature no.

Great post and point. The more "mature" a game is, the more it appeals to kids. Nobody wants to be a kid and most kids these days care more about being "cool" instead of having fun. I say it's stupid, but you really can't change stupid.

I despise it when people bash a game for being "kiddy". Are they afraid that playing a game with some colors other than black and grey and blood red going to make them look like a little kid? Do you play games at all? Welcome to the kiddy /bang/wagon.

Holy...I hope this was a typo....

Back on topic, Im all for ninty continuing its flagship franchises, but I want something new (and that goes for Mario, too.) I guess they think that if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I do play pokemon, just not in public, its embarrasing to be caught playing with that game.Click_Clock

You'd be suprised by how many people would play pokemon in public and not care about there image, like in chicago as an example. I'm one of the ones who don't care, too find other people my age want to play my pokemon game too...

I don't care what other people think of me because I only care what I think of myself (and I think I'm amazing)...

So with that said, no, there ain't anything wrong with kid-friendly games. My favourite handheld series is Pokemon and my favourite console series is GTA. There's an odd combo for you.

So I don't like the idea that "mature" gamers can't play kid-friendly games. If anyone avoids a game like Pokemon simply because it's kid-friendly you're basically avoiding fun.

We are all little kids inside, if you can't admit that as a gamer its just plain sad.  I remember when viva pinata was coming out all my mates thought i was crazy, laughed that it was stupid and then when they came over to see it in action thought it was boring sitting around watching my girl friend playing it. When she quit one of my mates jumped on to give it a go and didn't get off for hours, everyone just sitting around drinking, talking and watching viva pinata being played. None of them dissed it after awhile because it was an interesting and entertaining game with a unique concept.

Sure the majority of childrens games aren't really that fantastic and shouldn't really be played by anyone over the age of 12 but sometimes good games are just worth playing even if they are labelled childrens games. I mean if your ashamed to play something you want to play then don't play it or just don't tell anyone because all in all its your choice what you play and no one should tell you how or what to play.

[QUOTE="blizzvalve"]I enjoy playing kids games. I just got the wii last sunday. I'm loving Super Paper Mario right now. Bottom line, Nintendo will always show the inner kid inside of me, and if people don't like me for liking kids games, well it's their loss.Brown52

Im really hyped for that game. :)

What is wrong with kids games. Since the release of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, I've been seeing a lot of kid game bashing threads. You've played games when you were kids, so you're saying that the games you've enjoyed are not interesting today? I know some of your interests have changed since then, but do have to bash them because they are not your age group?blizzvalve

Do you still watch the same TV shows, listen to the same crappy music, play kickball & yell at your mom for making you take out the trash? I don't play the same games I did when I was 8 because I'm not the same person. For all of you who like to watch Dragonball Z when your 20, I don't know what to say

the themes are all that decide it. no game is "mature" in terms of gameplay. any kid can master any game.  a mature game is a game that kids should not be allowed to buy. plain and simple.

now, im not saying all E games are kiddie, they aren't. just a vast majority are.

Why is it that I never see adults playing Pokemon, but on this board people make it sound like that's half the market? I repeat, I have NEVER seen an adult playing a DS on a subway or doctors office. Where are all these Pokemon loving adults?

Yes, it was a typo, which I am ashamed to admit.

Back on topic, what about how Nintendo reinvents their titles? Surely that deserves some merit? Or are these universes so familiar that they have become tiring?

I believe it depends on where you live. There are many people here in chicago who have a DS(Lite) and also bought pokemon. Funny, mentioning that since a grown man about four years older than me was buying himself pokemon Pearl the day I went and picked up my copy of Diamond. He sured didn't care, much like everyone else don't...
