Call the SeX what it is, a beefed up X1X.
Which may not blow anybody away at first glance, but it's a solid piece of hardware that I'm sure will become better utilized as devs get familiar with it.
But more importantly it has BC, Gamepass and Xbox Live which are the major benefits of being an Xbox owner. Sort of a hybrid PC-Console with a well-curated and walled ecosystem, you can't even buy a top notch video card for $499 these days, it's basically a bargain as a daily use gaming machine for people who just want to use a laptop for work and a console for gaming, it makes your life simple and uncomplicated, you get your Skyrims and your Fallouts and your Mass Effects.
Granted you can do the same on a PS5, but most "normal" people will just pick one and it'll usually be the one with backwards compatibility so they can play the rest of their library.
Ain't nobody got time for trying to buy a used PS3 so they can play their old copy of Red Dead Redemption, or do another replay of Half-Life.
BC is the Playstation killer and Gamepass throws dirt on the grave. Also Xbox Live > PSN and nothing you say will ever convince me that downloads aren't faster, slicker, and everything doesn't "just work" so much better on Xbox Live, especially for multiplayer gaming which we're in the age of Covid and everybody's social distancing.
So that's the third thing that kills PS5 right off the bat.
Oh and the looks.
I don't know who designed the PS5 but it is fugly, what is it with Playstations and their weird-ass curves? You had the PS3 that looked like a George Foreman Grill, and now you have this monstrosity that looks like a lovechild between Apple and John Travolta.
I think most "normal" people usually skip a generation. Like they'll go from an Xbox360 to a PS4 to an XSX, so they can still play Miles Morales and Dark Souls and whatever else.
Actually I think most "normal" people are even smarter than that, and probably like to stay 1 gen behind so they can get all the games for cheap and bug-free.
You have to be a little bit rich, a little bit stupid or a little bit fanatical to own any of the new consoles right now, much less ALL of them. Like what's even the point? The average gamer is probably still chugging away on his PS4 for the next 2-3 years playing his backlog. Or just PC games with his $200 video card budget and 1080p monitor.
Cuz, you know, that's the smart way to game anyway.
