@SolidGame_basic: maybe you should give GP a try. You have a PC and an XBox now
@navyguy21: your argument has a few very large holes in it, enough for me to stick my toes in. Gamepass has over 100 games. MS can't designate all of its profits to just one game. Try defusing that one 😎
Easy: Math lol
23 million isn't a lot now, but they are growing almost 5m every quarter.
Think about it long term. If they get to 150m subs in the next couple of years, even at $5 a month that's 9 billion a year. More than enough to go around.
All this is not even counting the $15 a month plans and even before any compelling first party games.
You still lose
@sts106mat: why don't you support the developer and buy the game?
This is false. It's MS that isn't making much money right now. Developers are. If they weren't getting good deals, they wouldn't put their games on the service.
MS are putting the developers first and themselves second in order to be aggressive. So people read into MSs profits as a way to determine how much money everyone gets. And this is wrong.
@SolidGame_basic: the real question is "why do you care"?.. Microsoft is a Trillion dollar company.. Let them figure out the financials involved with their games..
And bottomline: as a Game Pass subscriber, I am already supporting those developers.. If I elect to purchase the title for full price, great.. But Microsoft is pushing for more and more Game Pass subscribers and titles like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are meant to attract those subscribers..
@Antwan3K:
He cares because he's butthurt by those images, he's a cow,MSFS is sitting in the 90's on metacritic, the Ascent is about to release and ps fanboys have to pay 60 dollars for psychonautes 2 next month.
His preferred plastic isn't getting a mention these days
@navyguy21: would've, could've, should've, huh? And what if everyone were to pay full price? Don't you think they would make even more money? #matchsetgame

Lol, are you slow?
I gave the "what if" numbers if everyone bought it.
The question is would you want 150m today or 300m tomorrow.
Your argument is to take the 150m now, presumably because you can't guarantee the 300m?
That's a bit narrow minded. People are subscribing because it has great value.
My guess is that you're also against investing in general? That's all this is, investing now for a payoff later.
Sure, you could take the easy money now, but that puts your whole strategy as risk because you and your developers are overly reliant on software sales.
With Netflix and Game Pass, developers are free to be as creative as possible but their existence in itself brings value. They don't have to sell 5m to turn a profit
Outside of that, you're also forgetting that some people will buy the game $60, some will buy after trying on Game Pass. Again, far exceeding the 150m you insist they take now
@navyguy21: would've, could've, should've, huh? And what if everyone were to pay full price? Don't you think they would make even more money? #matchsetgame
Hey its very simple, Gamepass has 23 million subs, there's a big possibility a large chunk of the userbase to try the game(cause why not) and like it and they start buying DLCs and microtransactions.(plus the paid sub)
On the other hand the game could sell only 4-5 million (which it already may since its probably gonna be on steam) and be reserved to only those 4-5 million players.
Which one is better? definitely the first.
@Ithrewupfire: yes but MS is charging $10-15 a month, plus a good chunk of those are promotions where the person is not paying full price on the service. MS is spending money to have over a 100 games on the service.
Looks good but at the end of the day it will still be just another Forza.
Didn't you buy an Xbox One last gen to play FH3?
@eoten: that's been my experience with most Windows store games, sadly. They dump them out and ditch them with next to no post-release support. The MS game forums are full of tickets reported and unaddressed years out on most of the "first party" games I have from them.
That being said, other than borked MP my experience has been pretty smooth with FH4 (other than a known+reported memory leak that causes hard crashes; but I got around this)
@eoten: I've had issues with FH3, FH4, MCC, AOE:DE, ReCore, and MSFS. It's painful, and all of my issues known bugs/issues reported by others and unfixed. But I wiped my computer last week and have a fresh install - maybe it'll shape up. Sadly, State of Decay 2 worked fine... I'd trade it in a heartbeat for any of those others being smooth sailing :-p
I get the feeling Playground Games don't really want to be making racing games. It's not that they aren't good at making them, but they obviously care a lot more about creating amazing environments, and there are better genres for exploring these environments than racing. I can't wait to see what they do with the Fable franchise. A fantasy setting with this quality of visuals would be incredible.
@sts106mat: why don't you support the developer and buy the game?
But didn't Microsoft present their game to their fans on gamepass for a reason?
Last gen when Sony began giving three games away with psn+ did you go buy those games or did you gleefully play them because it was part of the service you were paying for (or doing a trial/1 month/3 month etc.)
Every single person connected to psn+ has possibly hundreds of games in their collections that they didn't "support the developer" on.
It seems, like Sony, Microsoft is hedging their bets in a different way than straight up sales of their games... They want people spending time on their service.
