Forza is the best-selling racing franchise this gen

The story:

More than 11 million people have played a Forza title on Xbox One, Microsoft has announced. In addition, Forza is the best-selling racing franchise of this generation in the US according to NPD data.

Over three million players are racing in Forza games each month.

Coinciding with the 11 million milestone, Microsoft and Turn 10 have announced the Forza Racing Championship, which welcomes players of all levels to hone their skills as they compete for glory and real-world prizes.

"Competitions will be open and competitive for all, from brand new players taking their first laps, to the fastest virtual drivers in the world. Forza Racing Championship will be home to the best and most inclusive racing competition in gaming – where everyone has a chance to win, no matter how many miles they have behind the wheel," explains Xbox Wire.

In addition, Microsoft has begun dishing out the free download codes for the 2016 #66 Ford GT Le Mans race car to all gamers who have played Forza Motorsport 6.

A new Forza title is set to be revealed at E3 next week.

That's 3 games: Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2 and Forza 6 combined and if the active fanbase is at 3m no matter if it's cumulative, that's pretty neat. 11m players overall had played those games. Surely it couldn't amount to 11m copies actually sold but it definitely must be higher than 3m in total. Good job Turn 10. I wonder if next Forza is gonna be a rally one or another Horizon.

Well they make a quality product so congrats to them. I'm still satisfied on the racing front with FH2

I've never been too pumped for the sim circuit racing side of the series, but the Horizon variant definitely appeals to me more. I loved much about Horizon 2 except I feel put off by too much freedom, there isn't enough event structuring, I can take any event and change the rules to what car class type and pretty much adjust the car to my liking and the game scales the NPC competition to that. I dislike this approach and dislike instances of when I experiment say pimping out a Fiat for high performance for a comical effect and then kind of being stuck with the cost and can't really experiment with other cars until I earn the money, I mean I realize they want you to grind or even maybe buy micro-transaction currency but I'm not doing that, hence it limits the appeal to me. Anyhow, a new Horizon on the horizon so I'll be looking forward to seeing if they improve the design and if so then how.

It's also the best racing series of the gen in general.

This isn't that impressive. Mario Kart 8 has sold over 7.5 million alone. There are 3 current gen Forza games...

Ps4 keeps getting new game announcements to add on to their backlog of old game announcements.

MS will surprise the haters at E3. Even Peter Brown that kinda hates on Xbox regularly said the Crackdown 3 demo he played at Gamescom was the best thing he's ever seen done on a console.

It says in the in the US according to NPD data in your link, not worldwide. It's not that there is a lot of competition so I would expect Forza to be up there, but accuracy is still vital. Intriguing they didn't release hard sales numbers though, just indicating players (free PC version, multiple accounts, free downloadable demos all count).

Your title doesn't indicate the region, making it seem Forza is simply the best selling franchise this gen, but it's not, it's the best selling franchise this gen in the US. The isolation to a very specific region by Xbox PR to just the United States changes the scope of your sentence completely. You don't live in the United States, you would think you would have noticed this correct information found at Xbox Wire and Videogamer.com.

It's interesting to note that despite people here in SW arguing Forza Horizon is a different franchise, in combining these US sales numbers we see that Xbox HQ feel differently.

Forza is a quality series, getting mid-80s on metacritic with recent annual releases, my commentary is about accuracy/literacy not Forza itself. If you are going to make a thread, and claim to be a some sort of video game journalist in Poland, it's vital to get the facts straight and read PR correctly instead of what we have here which is a huge discrepancy with your title and the actual information found at Xboxwire and Videogamer.com. Misinformation is a big no/no even when dealing with a big PR fluff piece like this one. Kudos though on you not getting confused between players and actual sales.

5Club sucks ps4 needs to make a good racer like forza i don't care how much driveclub sold the game sucks, people in america hate it and look at the game like its trash.

They don't like the way the cars handle or drive. 5club plays like complete crap and sony knows it. They saw gamers hated the game and felt bad for people who bought it.

All Forza's were great this gen with FH2 being my favorite.

Best selling, best scoring, simply the best, current King of Racers, setting and raising the standard of the genre, excellent games which makes it an excellent franchise. This franchise took the genre by whirl wind with a choke hold and never let go, they own the genre. Congrats Forza the King.

Also the stalest racer aground. One that even lems aren't hyped about.

I don't even like racing games, but I will bet you GT Sport sells a mininum of 5 million copies in the first year.

Forza is great and it will only get better on PC.

I like Forza Horizon more than the original Forza game. I'll keep buying FH's, I love 2.

The GT series is stale. Even PD struggle to move it on. After all this time, I thought they were going to blow everyone the **** away and all they pull out GT Sport or whatever it is.

FH sucks.

The lems are just too dumb to know when they have something special in FM 6. It's the last truly great game on the system and they don't buy it. Turn 10 just keep making FM better and better.

Anyway as an XB1 gamer who has put in around 1000hrs into the 3 games combined. The Forza series is the best you can get on consoles. If you're a racing game fan and only own a PS4, well I hope GT Sport turns out to be good, because we know the PS4 is lacking in that genre, and the reason I don't own one.
