@mowgly1: it absolutely implies that. First, it provides a list of "some games" that drop resolutions and then it says Dishonored is "1080p when using the boost" <- that information and "when" in particular is completely irrelevant and misleading if it's always in 1080p "no matter when"

It is a bit interesting how the tables have turned in this case. Having to reboot the console to fix a problem is such an old school PC thing whereas PC games don't require a reboot to work after install. Funny how that works.

They are just saying which resolution is at 60fps as overall summary for all tested games. That's why headline is saying "some games"

Lie. What lie? LOL i didn't measured the resolution. Cheers! Also, i've some resolution drops, then it drops. MS also said in their FAQs regarding fps boost that there are possible resolution drops in games.

Not really. If a game is locked to a certain FPS in the coding, there's nothing M$ can do about that. But many games are only locked in the settings, like pretty much anything that is available on PC. All Microsoft has done is increased the settings for the game, not too dissimilar from what people have always been able to do on the PC counterparts.

Big deal. The noticeable difference between 1080p and 4K for most screens is nowhere near the loss in clarity you're going to get from running a game at half the frame rates or less. If video games were slideshows it'd be fine, but it's not and most games have a lot of movement. Do you want a game that looks great no matter what you are doing in that game, or one that looks mildly if at all better, but goes blurry the second you pan the camera?

There's a reason most 4K monitors for PC purchased are purchased by artists using them for software like Photoshop and why 1080P and 1440P dominate the sales for gaming.

They tested games which have resolution drops, which aren't. They've summarized end results in few sentence in the end. Yeah, not worth fighting for.

So in summary, the entire premise of the article is false and precisely zero of the 5 tested games is hit with a resolution drop on the Series X and one of them moves from 1080p to 900p on the S.

Consoles are always going to struggle to hit high fps as long as they are cheap. The higher fps target you have, the more CPU bound. Consoles generally have strong gpus but weaker cpus overall.
