[QUOTE="OhSnapitz"][QUOTE="Zune_HD"] Then quit buying all the Killzones, Halo, Resistance and CODs. If it's "killing the American gaming industry" then why do you continue to buy and play them? Actions speak louder than words my friends. Everybody always gets hot and bothered about when a new COD gets announced but yet they still buy the games and these FPS sell 10+ million copies. :?

Good point, however I believe a lot of that is gamers simply not willing to invest in a unknown title. Bayonetta recieved great reviews but sold poorly.. why? It had great action, outstanding visuals, and the erotic appeal, but it didn't move units because people didn't know what a bayonetta was. There are great titles out there with lasting appeal but we have to let gamers know about them (websites, word of mouth ect..) if we want to see a influx of "other genres" being sold at that rate.
That's because there's a problem when gaming becomes mainstream. All the casuals will simply only buy games they know/have played, and this is where the gaming market is suffering. Games like Halo, Call of Duty, etc are all games that casuals have played(and the only ones they know of) and will continue to buy and they make up most of the buying industry most likely. The gaming companies see this as a cash cow and try to jump onto the band wagon by making only well known IPs that sell. Thus you get a lot of sequels to games that hardcore gamers get sick of, but casual gamers eat up.First off, gaming going mainsteam isn't a problem like you say. Also, you seem to be mixing up mass-market appeal and casual games. By your logic any games that sell incredibly well are casual. It's normal for casuals to be hesitant to buy a new IP for 60$ when they can spend that money on a game they know they will love, especially if we consider the fact that a casuals' bugdet for games will usually let them buy maybe 2-3 games per year. So why would a casual with a bit of sense risk "wasting" 60$ on a game they're not sure of loving?
In this day and age, companies have to shell out alot of money to develop and publish an HD game. So why would a company risk 5mil$+ and hope to have a big hit when they can make a game that will be a sure hit sales-wise. Also, a company that is making lots of money on these so-called cash cows might then take a risk and make a new IP since they already have money in the bank.
More on-topic, FPS games are not killing the American gaming industry per se. The massive popularity of this type of game is not the only reason why some companies have had to close down or limit the types of games they are developping, you need to factor in the economy in this too. But that is another different aspect that I don't want to get into.
FPS is dominant due to a few key games/devs. Other developers are trying to make FPS because that's what they know people will buy. A lot of these FPS games suck/will suck when compared to the other high quality games like Halo, KZ, HL, etc. I'd rather have them make something unique and take risks rather than make FPS that is almost guarenteed to fall short of the heavy hitter FPS and the devs will end up hurting themselves.
The western entertainming industry are experts on shallow fun experiences, gaming is becoming like Hollywood, too much flash not much substance.kuraimenAs apposed to what? What other Region has THE OPPOSITE games? Although i agree to an extent, IMO, they are still putting out the best games.
