@mjorh: I just finished Wolfenstein TNO and TOB for the second time and it could very well be the blueprint for what good gunplay should be:
Weapons should be loud, hard to handle and dangerous.
When you fire a weapon you should see and feel the recoil, feel the power and see the effects of your shot.
Enemies should react accordingly and it shouldn't look like they are getting tickled, no, they are getting shot by some high caliber gun.
Killzone also did it perfectly in that regard.

Meanwhile when I shoot a gun in Call of Duty there is barely any recoil, and the sounds for guns in COD were off for the longes time too.
But advanced warfare at least had some better sounding guns :)
i see, i've finished Wolfenstein TNO and man i enjoyed the hell outta that game and the stuff you said about gunplay do matter to me so i can pretty much sat i care about gunplay. The thing is, HL2 is one my fav games ever and now that i think of it, based on what you said, it's not big on gunplay department but i did enjoy it ...so i think it's not a deal-breaker for me yet i care about it.
How about gun variety? can we count that as good gunplay?
Haven't played KZ series but it looks so great, especially the impact.
@mjorh: Good gunplay = FEAR and Killing Floor 2. When bullets hit your foes it's satisfying because of that punch, sound effects as well as the way enemies behave.
FEAR
Killing Floor 2
I've played KF2 for like 20hours so far and i've had a great time with it, too many classes, so much variety, greatly balanced, i love it, my only complaint about it is that it has only 2 bosses, we're close to the release and they're gonna add another one, so basically 3 bosses ... which is not enough imo.
