FPS's getting tired...

I know I will get killed for saying this, but Imo FPS's are fastly becoming a "dime - a- dozen" genre. Whether its MW 2, MAG, BFBC 2, Halo series or whatever, the formula is always the same. I for one am looking to play more story based games like Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy XIII to name a few. What are your thoughts on the state of FPS games?

Its the strongest genre so i LOVE EM!

One thing that is tired is JAPANESE RPGs!!!!!!!!!!

I love them. Any genre can get old if you have been playing them forever. I never get sick of my FPSs.

I like FPSs like Unreal Tournament and Battlefield, but CoD and co. bore me to death

Definitely not my genre of choice (as most of them rely on multiplayer), but I always enjoy the visceral combat of FPS,' and they usually have short campaigns that do not give me enough time to become bored with them, so they welcome to me :)

Also there are many varied and completely different FPS out there. A game like TF2 is vastly different from Halo 3, L4D etc.

I am starting to get tired of them, but continue to play them because most of my friends do.

I do enjoy a good story, so it feels repetative to me.

I don't know why people loveFPSs so much, they're not bad, but they get boring quickly.

I like Bad Company, but the best part of that game isn't the gameplay, it's the humor. That's why I continue to play the campaign, to see the next cutscene. I'll do a chapter a day for that game, it's fun at first, but after a bit I get tired of shooting the same generic soldiers over and over again.

I love FPS'. Its my favorite genre.

Also I don't see anyone complaining that Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy XIII came out in the same time frame as MW2, MAG, and BFBC2Couth_

I agree with the OP. The only FPS series I still play is Resistance, and that is because I love the unique weapon types and selections. It's the only FPS series I will ever need, unless something original like Bioshock comes out again. I even refuse to buy Killzone 2 and MAG, and that's coming from a cow.

I love FPS's. It's the only genre that I don't get tired of.

And you fail, Gears of War and Mass Effect aren't FPS. You said you can call it an RPG but you call it what it is... So a TPS/RPG?

Last gen I didn't have any FPS on consoles, so far I've got 3 this gen, so I don't think they're bad as long as they're good, which a lot of them have been this gen.

I don't mind if there's a glut of any genre. So long as there are other genres available. I mean I have absolutely no interest in fighting games especially when there was a huge glut of them back in the mid 90's. But, I don't go around ranting about it. There are gamers who like them. Just let them have their fun.

I do have a problem when people want games to be FPS' when they would be much better off as another genre. I once saw someone says Castlevania should be an FPS. Seriously?

Easily my favorite genre. And with so many different FPS's there is a choice for everyone. The genre that is really becomes stale is JRPG. I loved 16-bit and 32-bit JRPG's but since the PS2 they don't evolve anymore.

BC2, Halo and maybe Crysis 2 are the only worthwhile shooters this year.

but of all the shooters mentioned, Halo probably has the most story and TONS of lore. and most competitive when you take it online.

some shooter hybrids would be nice though FPS/RTS is sheer win, Renegade is the 'king' of that genre:)

Way too many generic and boring shooters that do nothing orginal. Shooters are the new JRPG.

Which are both shooters. ME is pretty original cause its a grea RPG as well, but it's combat is very very shooter-y.

GeOW, I can't belive you are not listing that as a shooter. It's the most generic shooter crap of the decade.
