Franchises that have divided fans

I have been checking TV Tropes (btw, good site but is my opinion):) and I checked a trope that talked about franchises that have divided fans.

I' ve only seen the fanboy wars of consoles but I don't know if in Gamespot there have been wars about some franchises like Sonic, Zelda, etc. Has it happened here in Gamespot System Wars forum or not?

Also, if I posted this in the wrong forum then sorry. :(

Resident Evil comes to mind I personally like 1-3 way better than 4 and 5.

Halo comes recently. There is a faction of Halo fans that love Halo 1-3, but dislike ODST/Wars. The other side loves all.
Sonic and Zelda you mentioned TC.

Streetfighter...That's all I can think of for now.

Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six...fans of Ghost Recon 1 and Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear/Raven Shield have nothing in common with the new wave of fans that were born with GhostRecon2/GRAW and RainbowSix 3(Xbox)/Lockdown/Vega

Zelda fans are divided over just about every Zelda game after Ocarina of Time

FF, you have4distinct fanbases.

1: Pre-FFVII and FFIX fans

2: FFVII, VIII, X, XII fans

3: MMO (FFXI) fans

4: Women, girls :P

Actually 5, there are some who like them all.

Generally, GTA: Vice city and SA fans don't enjoy IV as much as newly introduced fans.

Well, thats what I hear when playing anyway.

Resident Evil comes to mind I personally like 1-3 way better than 4 and 5.

Fallout 3 fans vs Fallout 1 and 2 fans

Bioshock fans vs system shock fans

Call of Duty- There is a huge rift between those that started out with the franchise back in '03 and those that just got started with COD4. When the latter makes claims that CoD4 is the best in the franchise, they usually get their heads taken off by the CoD old timers. The things that divide the two factions are perks, shifts of multiplayer focus, and the downward trend of the degree of realism the CoD franchise started out with.

Final Fantasy- Another case of a schism forming between the old timers and those that entered the franchise with VII (or X). Dividing factor is usually the changes in characters styles.

I agree with the final fatasy and gta. I hated gta 4 with a passion

Zelda, Sonic, and even Metroid.

Seriously, Metroid fans feud over which is better between FPA and 2D.

Call of Duty. There are the ones that prefer Infinity wards works, and there are the few (and I actually am among them) that prefer the Treyarch ones.

oh and then theres the banjo kazooie fans, the ones that hate nuts and bolts, and the ones (like me again) that love all the games.

Zelda, actually, mostly for the whole Windwaker artstyle thing.

Banjo tops the list followed closely by Zelda.

Grand Theft Auto definitely. IV really split up the fans.

Do console fan bases count? Cus i see PS3 guys going at it all the time on Youtube.

RE4 was my first RE game and it was instantly my favourite game of all time. (It's still my 2nd favourite now) So I bought REmake on GC afterwards... and absolutely HATED it.

It seems people either love RE1-3 or RE4-5... but usually not all of them...

FF, primarily. 12 main games (with one releasing soon) and you have fanbases for each game, but many people group FF1-6 and FFIX fans and FFVII/FFVIII/FFX fans. FFXII and FFXI seem to have their own fanbases, it seems. I like all of 'em, but I'm more skewed in favoring FFIX, FFIV, FFX, and FFXII.

Resident Evil has divided fanbases. Those that prefer 1-3 and those that prefer 4-5. I see Grand Theft Auto has divided fans, and Legend of Zelda certainly. There are those that feel LTTP was the pinnacle, those that believe OoT was the pinnacle, and those that believe Wind Waker was the pinnacle. Often times I see Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and the rest of the games (especially Legend of Zelda 2) viewed as the shunned stepchildren, but they have their vocal fanbases.

IMO no franchise has divided more fans that FF, from FF6 to FF7, FF8, FF9, etc,etc,etc.

before I start to look like a spammer, I'll stop there. From speculation, Resident Evil definitely looks divided, A LOT.

I think its the Warcraft saga no doubt about it.

Its fanbase its scattered and simply a mess. I'd say thats both a good thing and bad thing. Shame it cant be just good. Advance the game or keep the fanbase. Its a tough choice. Personally, I still question which one I love most yet Im pretty sure its 3.

Also, R.E, s.f, gta, fallout, halo, and super smash.

Ghostbusters. A lot of people love the new Ghostbusters, but i run into a lot of people that still dig the NES version

FF. Halo fan base (some love just 1, some love 1&2, some love 1-3, some love all). RE definitely. Prince of Persia (sands of time trilogy and even within that, vs new prince). Resistance (some love r:fom and hate the changes made in R2, others love R2's action and seperate coop).
