GTA 4 for sure. Im part of the group that loved GTA 3 but didnt like Vice city or San Andreas that much but loved GTA 4
Resident evil is what i thought of when I saw the topic title.
Also Need for Speed. Pro Street and Shift divided the fanbase.
Guitar Hero lost almost all of its fans, but there are still some faithfuls I guess.
Nice Original topic TC
anyway all the ones I can think of have been said and I'll have to say FF has the most divided fans.
The shock series. Bioshock fans and System Shock 2 fans usually don't like each other.shalashaska88
That's so strange to me. I mean, System Shock 2 is one of my personal favorite games of all time, but I absolutely love BioShock. Hell, I think they complement each other.
In a sense, System Shock 2 is Apollo (cold, calculating, and wholly rational) whereas BioShock is Dionysus (sloppy, feverish, and filled with inspired madness).
One is the nightmare of a scientist; the other of an artist. Both are excellent.
I am really interested in trying System Shock 2, the premise sounds so awesome. Adrift on a space ship with creepy aliens all aboard? Next Gen remake anyone? But is the game still playable today? Or will I defintely notice it is from another time?

Hell yes it is. Forget that remake talk; it doesn't need one in the slightest. SS2 has aged extremely well, and you should play it immediately.
Final Fantasy VI vs Final Fantasy VII
Morrowind vs Oblivion
Fallout 1/2 vs Fallout 3
COD vs Casual of Duty
Rainbow Six vs Rainbow Six Vega
STREET FIGHTER II VS STREET FIGHTER III VS STREET FIGHTER IV
^ no way, FF1 is still my favorite after all these years. the character class combinations pose a slightly different attack strategy each time you play through. kinda the same reason i really liked DQ3, you pick a party and if you want them to be good you have to keep them and level them up.
for me its FF and RE. i grew up on the nes/snes ff's and imo around 10 it wasn't a final fantasy anymore really. 10 and 12 were still fun, but they didn't really feel too much like final fantasy. RE hasn't been the same since the first 3. i liked RE4, in fact in the "fun factor" i probably like it more than the first 3, but i liked the seting and suspense of the first 3 more. RE4 & 5 were just basically third person shooters with little horror element to them.
Resident Evil comes to mind I personally like 1-3 way better than 4 and 5.
xxyetixx
I 110% agree with this. I have had plenty and plenty of discussions on the current RE games.Iminyour camp. I like 4&5 but I feel the previous ones were wayyy better.
Wow, I can't believe no one said Perfect Dark Zero. The original is a masterpiece and is loved by many, but Perfect Dark Zero had split a ton of fans, to the point where some say it ruined the franchise. It does have it's fans, but not as many as the original. I still like PDZ though, even though I loved the original.:P
And then you have some people who prefer Perfect Dark Zero over Perfect Dark, an even smaller group of fans than those who liked PDZ.

GTA IV definitely split the tide
Generally, GTA: Vice city and SA fans don't enjoy IV as much as newly introduced fans.
Well, thats what I hear when playing anyway.
Agreed. Something about Vice city was far more enjoyable for me then GTAIV. Didn't care much for SA though.I think the franchise with the most divided fans that I have seen would be the MGS series. MGS2 divided fans by introducing a new protagonist, MGS3 split it by using a different protagonist and having a different setting, and MGS4 split the fan base yet again by making drastic changes to the main character of the series. Then there were the divisions caused by all the MGO's....

Great comparison using Greek gods' names, and yes SS2 has aged extremely well, it's a lot more engaging and addictive than 99% of current games out there.Zelda: Mostly for the OOT fanboys to diss every game that comes out after it.
Sonic: Well gimmicks some like them some don't.
Resident Evil: I only played 4 and 5 so I can't really comment on the earlier ones.
Final Fantasy at most as i remember, some people think the series ended in VI, one prase VII at max, some people say IX is the best some people that it sux, same with X, some XII accepts or reject it's abnormal form.... there too many variants of fans of this series. Well it's side-effect of series form, every game is diffrent
