I wouldn't bet on the same blu-ray player as they need to save money there also I'm sure. Expect a slower one as ofcourse they have to have one and also probably less media features. They will skimp in some places to save more money as that has been Sony's way when lowering the price of the PS3(taking out BC and USB ports , gloss finish, and media card readers).

Well maybe not slower Blu ray but definitely cheaper would be my guess and thus less reliable. Even in the older 80gb BC 4usb port modelthey still had some hardware to do the PS2 BC. They had a modified PS2 GPU chip to work with the software emulation that replicated the Emotion Engine.

I have found that price differences between the UK and the rest of the EU can be as large as €15 or even €20 with regards to video games.

European prices are always inflated, though. The default price for a game in GBP is 45 pounds, which is around 75 dollars. Now that Activision's bumping it up to 55, its even more, like 90+. So a 299 euro PS3 Slim is a great sign for a $299 PS3 Slim for the states. After all, it's 399E vs. $399 right now.

Good news I guess. I am dissapointed that we have to pay so much more for exacly the same system as in the US. In europe the price will be 300 euros and in US it will be 300 dollars. I think we can be pretty sure of a slim PS3, sony has always designed a slim version of the playstations and since many rumors on many different websites such conforms it. Sony will release slim version with lower price in order to prepare for the holiday season.

Still I am sick of having to pay $100 more for the same sh*t.

Some people here need to remember that sony don't always follow the currency rates.Example PSP GO, Europe = €250 US = $250.
