From a pc gamer: help me decide which console to buy

I never owned a console in my life, however I've been playing pc games for15 years now. As I am getting old, my taste of video game is chaging as well. I played only a handfull of games with consistency, although I have tried many other titles. Currently I am playing Warcraft III's custom map called DOTA andcounter strike : source. Tried the latest installment of C&C and coudln't finish it because I wasn't enjoying it. Currently, the only pc game I look forward is StarCraft II.

So I want to try the console games,but I am willing to buy only one console, either the xbox 360 orps3. It seems like xbox 360 is much cheaper, andheard the onlinething is pretty cool. Also heard that the xbox360 has many more games than ps3.SoI browsed the games that xbox 360 offered, butit seems likethey don't have that many action-adventure games that I was hoping to play (sword fighting stuff).Too many shooters.... Being a pc gamer,Irememberfew years ago I tried Medal of Honor on a console and I truly hated it. For me, shooters and strategy gamesaremore enjoyable inpc. Xbox 360 owners, am I missing something here orxbox 360 does lack in this genre?

Andin terms of action adventure/arcade style games, which console has to offer a better experience havingin considerationboth currently available titles and those scheduled for release within a year?

One advantage of buying ps3 is that I can play ps2 games like God of War I and II and other titles while I wait for the new releases. And I heard there are many good ps2 games out there that can be played on ps3.

Which one would I be better off buying? I can't buy both because time/money/wife/etc.

Get a PS2. should be pretty cheap, and there's tons of great action-adventure games.

I'm mostly a PC gamer, I got a Wii and 360 and am very satisfied. Might get a PS3 in a few years time.

There is also this little thing called the wii ;) You shouldn't count that out as it offers the experience that differs the most from PC gaming.

if you really like the action/adventure titles you can still get a good fix with the 360 thanks to the BC titles already available. Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black will challenge you far more than GoW1 and 2. Here's a full list of all the Xbox action/adventure titles that are playable on the 360

I have both and frankly, I'm happier with my PS3. It could just be my imagination, but I feel like (at least for me) a lot of the games I'm really looking forward to for the 360 will either be available on the PS3 also, or on the PC (such as BioShock, Assassins Creed, C&C3, etc). Granted, the current line-up of PS3 games is slim-pickens but my library of PS2 games is quite robust and there's alot of great games to choose from. Also, built in blu-ray is just plain awesome, and being a PC gamer myself (first and foremost) I just have qualms paying to play online, which i realize is more of a personal problem than anything (just spoiled by free stuff,I guess. lol), but i figured it was worth mentioning.

I know it wasn't on the list, but have you considered the Wii? At the very least, it offers an experience completely different from that of the PC that may add a little variety to the over all experience.

You can play most of the bigger titles for the xbox on the 360. It's not completely backwards compatible however

You can find most if not all ofthe XBOX games that are playable on the 360 Here

I was also pc only gamer for very long but bought a ps2 a year before. I was not not very impressed with it (what I mean to say is that try the games that a special om consoles and see that whether you really need a change). On the topic, what I really think is :-

(1) If you want a console to complement your pc, wii is the best option

(2) if you want a console to replace your pc as a gaming platform X360 is the best choice

(3) If want to play diferent games ( as you said your are getting tired of pc gaming) try wii or ps3

Honestly look at the games coming out and decide on a console for yourself.

PC has no good games but this too have even less. LOL

The Wii is the antithesis of PC gaming.

360 is definitly out of the question: most of it's games are on PC and the few exclusives mostly have eqivalents on PC. I would say : get PS3. PS2 library alone is worth is for PCgamer, as it will compliment you PC library excelent and from upcoming games ps3 also looks like it will have the most "non-PC-like good games".

Wii might be also good, but it doesn't have the PS2 as it's back compatibility list and so far it looks like Wii won't offer you much, you would propably be better off with DS

you cant play nintendo games on a pc and most of the killer titles of this year will be coming out for pc aswell Assassin's Creed,Bioshock,UT3 etc etc

for a second choice id go with the PS3 if you like jRpg's its probly the best choice (based on what happend on the ps2 i could be wrong) and some great games, like the god of war and MGS series yeah there arent many games on the ps3 at this point but thats probly going to change next year.

360 is just a sad attemp of being a pc, way too many shooters and if you play CS S i dont think you going to enjoy halo (that's just my opinion) and cmon how can a pc gamer even want to buy a Mircrosoft device?? dont you think having to put up with the windows is enough? =p

in my case i have the pc for singleplayer/internet gaming and the wii for Nintendo games and when friends come over i think i have the best of both world's but that's just me.

The sad part about what you say is that you say Halo 2 stomps anything on the PC platform. However, Jeff Gerstman, editor at Gamespot, reviewed Halo 2 for PC at a 7.0/10. He said also that it barely stands up to the best the PC platform has to offer. It's outdated gameplay, graphics, and story would barely make a PC gamer interested, unless they were into the mapmaking features on the PC.

Oh. Interesting. I think you're forgetting something, then. First off: FEAR, Prey, and Q4 are all on consoles, and noticably worse on those platforms. You're also forgetting Crysis, Battlefield 2, Far Cry, Counter Strike, Red Orchestra, and UT, all of which own Halo 2.

Halo 2 is a bloated franchise. All I have to say to your petty "Halo 2 owns PC games" is "7.0/10."

Don't buy a 360, becuase halo, gears, mass effect, fable etc. will all be coming to the pc.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you are. I'm leaning towards PS3 because of it's free online, PS2 backwards compat, standard hard drive, and Sony exclusives (Gran Turismo most importantly).

The 360 is looking good, but the games that I would want to play on 360 are coming to PS3, too. I'm not that big on Halo anyways. I like shooter games with guns modeled after real guns, not alien plasma stuff.

Sony has a history with action-adventure games, I'm thinking that they will recieve some good titles.

Random Half-Life guy? Gordon was no random guy. If anything, I could say that Master Chief was modeled after Gordon.

Cool tempered and good under pressure. Even their suits kind of resemble each other. But which one came first? Oh yeah.

Gordon was definitely a unique character, with MUCH more depth of background. Background for MC = Good warrior guy, lawl!
