From your perspective, what is the game most often said to be the best of all time?

Not according to your own tastes or anything but according to your observations. What games do you see ranked at the top of best of all time lists the most often? What, according to what you've seen is considered the best game ever?

For me it's definitely Ocarina Of Time. I prefer Majora's Mask but I'd say it's the game I've seen rated and ranked the highest by far. It really isn't close.

Next is probably Super Mario World.

Other notables (commonly seen in top 10 lists) that I can think of are The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, Breath of the Wild, Portal and Portal 2, Half Life 2, Super Metroid, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Dark Souls, Tetris, Doom, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Pacman, Red Dead Redemption, GTA 5, The Last of Us, Skyrim

Seen the Witcher 3 a fair amount in recent years. Then the classics of course like Ocarina, Super Metroid, A link to the past etc.

Ocarina of Time is at the top of the most GoaT lists from what I've seen.

Personally it’s my least favourite 3D Zelda though, and I played it back when it was hot.

curiously I never completed a Zelda title before but then again I've never been interested or fascinated by the Zelda universe.

Ocarina of Time was the first game that came to mind, Final Fantasy 7 after that.

On this Forum OOT seems to be the consensus clear choice, even though the game doesn't hold up today at all.

But Games like Super Mario Bros. Donkey Kong, Half Life 2, The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid are mentioned a lot.

PAC Man, Pong, Tetris, the list goes on.

The Witcher 3, Ocarina of Time, The Last of Us, Some Super Mario Bros game, Chrono Trigger, and Tetris. My personal favorites are:

- The Witcher 3

- Persona 4 Golden

- Final Fantasy 8 or 10

- Chrono Cross

- Horizon Zero Dawn

Crysis & Warhead.

Morrowind. It's the perfect balance of role playing and game.

Also Half-Life. I prefer it just slightly over the sequel. However, Black Mesa is turning out to be an even better version of the original.

OoT is definitely my favorite 3D Zelda game. I think Majora's Mask is objectively a better experience, but I still like OoT.

Used to be Ocarina of Time until Egoraptor made his Sequelitis video on it. Nowadays I see more mixed opinions on it, many calling it overrated. I actually believe OoT is better than many would lead one to believe.

As a long time Zelda fan I hated OOT. I didn't like the jump from the SNES to the N64. I liked the 2D games better. I was really disappointed when OOT came out. I didn't like BOTW either.

I think Super Metroid is the best game all time.

OOT is easily the most overrated game and series in general on the internet. The internet is dominated by Nintendo fanboys so they continue to push that narrative.

If you polled every gamer on the planet, you would get much different results.

Was a tie between OoT and FFVII for a long time. But now it's just OoT, seems a lot of people have cooled down on FF7 in recent years.

Literally every single thing widely considered to be the greatest will be said to be overrated by many. It seems people just cannot fathom others having different opinion than theirs.

Forgot Chrono Trigger. That one is also in almost all the top lists.

Should be planescape torment imo, but half-life, chrono cross and occ is probably 3 solid bids...

Chess, simple yet unmatched and the only one i am sure it's can't be overtaken, not now, not ever!!!

Otherwise it also could be any one of these : Chrono trigger, Tribes 2, Ut99, Og Doom, Skies of Arcadia, FF12, Contras 3, Ikaruga, Homeworld, Warcraft 2, Planescape, Poe, GoW...and so on...

Very hard to name just one, at least around me. Chess seems to be the one and only!!!

According to my hypothesis OOT regarded as best game of all time but imo its highly overrated and today its very dated.

While that's true, but what are the terms when considering a game to be the greatest of all time?

If the game has to hold up today, then OOT has to be taken off the list. (The camera and controls are insanely annoying) So if the game has to hold up, then games like Tetris or Super Mario on NES would be front runners.

If it's great games FOR THEIR TIME, then yes you can make an argument for OOT
