I'm playing Sleeping dogs right now and it's just fun. It's a good blend of a serious story and fun things to do. Isn't this what gaming is about? I like how in this game it's about "gameplay". The driving is "fun". It's almost oldschool in a way. I like how everything has a purpose. Even stunt jumps are set up to be used for evading the cops. Food has a purpose. Collectibles you can bring back and upgrade your fighting style. Fighting is excelling. You have a face meter which expands the more combos you pull off which also serves a purpose. The mission structure is excellent. It's not that over the top like Saints Row. Everything just seems to fit for the soul purpose of fun. But yet this game gets an 8. A few glitches here and there. A lack of online multiplayer most likely due to financial reasons doesn't mean nearly as much to me as a well crafted game that is actually fun to play.
Then you have GTA which is groundbreaking but yet you go on mission after mission aimlessly, get all this cash and can only buy food, weapons and clothes.. I guess that's groundbreaking. Sleeping Dogs if you look at it from a gameplay perspective is really an upgrade over GTA in every facet.
The last of us looks great but it's still a dressed up version of Uncharted with different atmosphere and zombies. Great enough but it's still a mode of interactive entertainment and I've already done that with Uncharted.
It's not that over the top like Saints Row where it loses all aspects of storytelling and suckng you into an atmospheric tale. Hong Kong looks great.
At least Sleeping Dogs is fun. It does this while also telling a mature tale. It doesn't do too much where it takes itself too seriously. It doesn't lose the fun. I wish developers focused more on fun ways to incorporate things in games instead of trying to ingross me in an alternate reality. This is where I disagree with the developer of Quantic Dream. Mature games are all well and good but please don't lose the fun.
Stop trying to sell me something.
