Imagine you went back only 10 years and told yourself or other gamers about the future of gaming. Think of all the shocking revolutions that happened in only 10 years.

for example:

1- Sonic and Mario will be in games together and the first game they are in together sucks(olympics) but no worries the second one looks promising(Brawl)

2-Sega is no more

3-there are far bloodier games then Mortal Combat

4-there will be motion controls in gaming

5-games will look realistic(the 2D era is dead)

6-Online Play

7-handhelds can and will be in 3D

8- Nintendo's handheld monopoly is no more(though it is still #1 in sales)

...those where off the top of my head feel free to add on :)

Not even close. 5 years ago was the start of the ps2/xbox/gcube era. This gen is barely diff from last gen. Shinier grafx and heavy emphasis on online.

The PSP stole 30% of Nintendo's market share, so I would not call it "microscopic". If you owned a retail store and lost 30% of your customers to a competing store accross the street, you would be in a bit of a panic as well.

Good thread.

As for me, I would have a hard time believing that Microsoft would enter the console industry 10 years ago.

Hahaha, where would I be 10 years ago. Probably playing Spyro, Crash, Sonic, some weird helicopter game I can't remember the name of, Monster Rancher, Resident Evil, Destruction Derby, Mortal Kombat...etc.

Man I remember only a few years ago before Rockband or the Guitar Hero series were ever heard of, having a father who once played in a band [and now does, yet again!], a group of friends and I discussed how fun it might be to make a game of the exact same sort. Then it happened.

From D-pads to motion sensors [yeah i know arcades had them, but they weren't in the home]. It's quite a jump.

It is when DS is selling faster than the PS2, and will probably sell about 150 million by the end of it's lifespan.

Actually Sega was the first, and online gaming exsited far before them too on the PC.

I hate ignorant Nintendo fanboys that say Nintendo was the father of online gaming when all they did was release some stupid peripheral in Japan for the SNES that nobody used anyway.

Sega was the first to incorporate online into consoles. The Nintendo fanboys will try to tell you differently, though.

If you steal 30% market share from a system that sold 150 million units, then you sold almost 65-70 million units. Still not microsopic.

Perecntages have scale. 30% market share is still 30% market share and is still not microscopic REGARDLESS of how many Nintendo DS units are sold.

Hahaha, exactly. Silly nintendo fanboys. The Mega Drive had the "Mega Modem" back in late 1989 long before the Super Famicom thing came out. Sure it was a flop and didn't last long but it was waaaaay ahead of its time. There was that X-Play thing released in the US for the "Genesis" and Super Nintendo as well, it was also released for the Saturn in Japan. SEGA WERE THE FIRST TO INCORPORATE ONLINE PLAY INTO A CONSOLE. The Game Cube still needed an ADD ON for online play!!! Gee, who was it that released that add on for the Game Cube? Hmmmm, could it have been SEGA??!

"Here's the downside the modem was never used for online gameplay"

I rest my case.

P.S That is a Famicom modem, not NES
