[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]

[QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]consoles cant do 1080p the games are upscaled, console games this gen are only rendered in 720p or below next gen we might see 1080p as a standard but a lack of AA.AiurProtoss

PS3 can render some games in native 1080p, however there arent very many due to the ps3's weak hardware.

1600x1080, 1280x1080, and 960x1080 is not full 1080p. But with that being said Next gen we will see 1080p as standard with a lack of AA due to the res being higher and devs wanting to push better textures and lighting.

There are still some native 1080p games out there like Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection and Virtua Tennis 3. Not many, but they're there...

1080P w/ 60fps should be the standard, nothing less...

jj42883

Why stop at 60? 120fps please, but why stop there? 200fps please...

well if 3d becomes standard (hopefully with glasses-less 3d tvs by then) then you would want at least 120fps, which would give you full 1080p 60fps for each eye. while the 3d on ps3 supposed looks good (i havn't tried it and dont want to buy a new tv & glasses), they need to reduce the resolution and/or framerate to get it to work.

At the end of the day, there's no way to really standardize 60 fps. Because there will always be developers who try to push hardware as far as they can, and they usually prefer to sacrifice frames per second in favor of more advanced engines, higher resolutions, anti-aliasing and the like...

Go much above 1080p and you reach the point of diminishing returns. Basically, unless resolutions increased to something crazy like 2000p, you wouldn't see much difference with improved resolutions. It's almost impossible totell the difference between 720 and 1080 as it is (except for large tvs).

I can easily tell the difference between my 1 1440x900 monitor and my 2 1920x1200 monitors.

A lot of it really depends on viewing distance. Console gamers tend to play games from several feet away from their TVs, whereas PC gamers tend to be only 1-2 feet away from their monitor.

Viewing distance

i think not because 1080p is already argued by same hard to notice under 40" tv's so if u want increase that resolution by 2-4 then it would just be a waste of money and resources on the gpu.i think next gen will stick with 1080p only, not 480/720 just 1080.

Well, not everyone has a 1080p TV. They should allow scaling to at least 720p for compatability.

I doubt next gen consoles will use that resolution, they're suffering with 1080p and you want them to go up to 1200p?

1080p should be standard for next gen or at least an option to sacrifice some graphical effects to get it running at a higher resolutions then 720p i don't see the point off all these graphics if its tarnished by low resolution. And by 1200p i assume you mean 1920x1200? in which case its virtually the same thing as 1080p.

I agree 100%.

And add 60 FPS to it and we're good to go.

No, movies are in 16:9 ratio so 1080p will stay.

ferret-gamer

2048 x 1152, higher res than 1900x1200 and is 16:9

To small of a jump to make a diffrence except for computer monitors which is what you see it on, The next t.v standard will most likely be 1440p or 2560x1440 the 16:9 variant of 2560x1600 you see in 30" computer monitors. I wouldn't mind if they started making some now there'd be no use for movies/consoles but as a computer monitor it'd be great not so much for the games as for the extra desktop space for doing work as I'm not convinced it will look much better and enhance the gaming experience from 1080p that much compared to eyefinity.

We have had several generations using 480i tv's, and now you think they will make a huge jump every gen. A 720p/1080p tv isn't any where near to being pushed to it's limits by the current gen consoles and they're low native resolutions. Next gen we will have consoles that can run games at 1080p with huge environments, AA, and at 60fps.

Also remember that if 3D gets popular, the consoles will have to be able to process two 720p/1080p images at the same time. So NO, we will not see consoles aiming higher than native 1080p.

By that logic they wouldn't have had 480i support on the current consoles.

You are wrong. The more pixels the better. But even Crysis would look bad on a insane res close up.
